Writers' Strike New Episodes
Thursday, January 10 marked the day for DAYS's final episode which was written before the Writers' Strike, which officially began Monday, November 5, 2007. At the time when the stike began, DAYS had enough episodes to air throughout January of 2008. However, the storylines are written a few weeks head of the actual actors' dialogue. Friday, January 11 was the first official episode in which either scab or replacement writers wrote the dialogue. The seven dialogue writers on staff, Bettina Bradbury, Mike Cohen, Judith Donato, Renee Godelie, Cydney Kelley, Linda Poindexter, and Jodie Schotz, are no longer listed in the credits at the end of the show. However, the other staff writers, which include Richard Backus, Tom Casiello, Charlotte Gibson, Frederick Johnson, Gordon Rayfield, and Judy Tate, are still listed in the ending credits, but their names may disappear soon.
As you may recall, Dena Higley was brought on board to DAYS as a co-head writer back in late October, but has yet to be listed in the credits. Many believe she's on financial core status but this hasn't been officially confirmed. Her name may replace Meg Kelly's as co-writer on the credits. It is unknown at this point as to exactly who the scab or replacement writers are. For a list on DAYS production crew, Jason's DAYS page does an excellent job of keeping you updated on the current production staff.
There's still no end in sight to the Writers' Strike. Nonetheless, DAYS will continue to air new episodes. I am all for the writers in this strike, as they should be fairly and rightfully compensated for their hard work. On the other hand, I must admit that DAYS has been getting better as of lately and I can't help but be intrigued by what lies ahead on the show with the replacement writers, especially after watching the Friday, January 11 episode when EJ gave Marlena the news she was hoping to hear.

Maybe the storylines will improve. They certainly can’t get much worse.
I must whole heartly agree with you. It got so stupid and went to the teen stories, that I gave up on it. I read the daily updates on soap sites, and VERY rarely watch the show. Maybe they will finally get back to the core stories that made Days what used to be a great show. After seeing the ratings go in the dumper, you would have thought that the writers would have taken the hint and changed back to what made it great. That didn’t happen. They stuck with the stupid story lines and look what happened.
I think the show has greatly improved and hope it stays around for 40 more years.
I don’t know or care who is doing the writing for Days lately all I can say is that the sorylines are better than they have been in the last year. Please don’t let us devoted fans down by going back to the same repetitive, boring, outrageous “tripe” that we have been forced to endure. KUDOS to the writers whoever they may be and keep up the good work!!
The storylines HAVE greatly improved in the last few weeks, probably because those on strike aren’t there to “tweak” what they wrote in the first place. I say keep the folks (scabs or whoever) that have been writing since the strike and get rid of the ones who had been writing for DAYS. Ratings don’t lie, and they’ve been going up since the strike.
I totally agree, the show has had a noticable turn around in the last 2-3 weeks. things are being drug out as they normally are. I just hope this whole claire kidnapping thing doesn’t go on forever. THANK GOD THEY BROUGHT JOHN BACK!!!
I have been watching DAYS for 24 years (since I was 8)! I have to say, I call my best friend in Chicago almost every day now saying, “DAYS is getting GOOD!” In the past, the story lines have dragged out forever. Now, everything is moving at a much faster pace, and we are getting what we want! I knew that John wasn’t dead, and I’m happy that it didn’t take until March or April to see him on-screen, like it may have with the other writers. As long as the stories continue to stay interesting and make us want to tune in the next day, I say we keep the new writers and tune the other ones out!!!
Can’t see the diffrent in the storylines. Same old, same old, storylines, Stefano puts life into the dead. As Marlena were her daughter is, force to love a man that she don’t want. Marlena a doctor of mind, acting if she’s someone receiving treatment for a disorder.
What kind of doctor would listance to
a call to be reader of life telling them a dead man is alive? She saw John hit by a car fall into the street than die in her arms. All of a certain doctor Stefano and his side kick bring him back to life. This doctor can bring back the dead but is frighten of Stefano.
The only thing reader of life have ever done was to beat those who have suffer from the lost of someone out of lots of money claming they can talk to the dead.
John and Marlena don’t fit and have never fit. I hope they will not reunite. And who are those fans that want John back, everyone I discuss the show with was glad he left the show. If he had been a cast member that the true fans had wanted back the show staff never would have bought him back.
Telling Marlena that John is alive, might be the only good thing that E.J. has done yet. Wounder what this act will cost Sammi?
I firmly believe that anyone who has watched this show for minimum 6 months to a year could write this show. The plotlines move extremely slow, the dialogue is filled with cliches, dramatic pauses and subplots that carry on for weeks at a time. A monkey could write this show.
The writers’ strike has simply pushed things along faster. I say the hell with the old writers, keep the new and lets keep the PLOTS moving fast! It still follows the DAYS formula, i.e. predictable lines and cliches, but I guess that’s why people (i.e. my wife) loves it so much!
I am pleased with Days again.
I am so happy that my old favorites are back and together. Now I can endore the new characters for the younger generation. As it should be. We need both.
Keep up the good work writers. And please keep the story lines moving fast as you are
doing now.
I have watched Days since I was a babe, I have a picture of me when I was 3,on floor in front of tv when Bill was visiting Laura in hospital, been watching ever since I am now 38, and I love it! It is my favorite thick and thin, slow& fast times, exciting& what at times seem to be boring, I just wish Sami would get over Lucas for God’s sake and finally fall head over in love with EJ!!!!
I think the writer’s strike is ridiculous. These people get paid well and are asking for even more. Do you know how many others out there would give their write
arm to get a chance to write for these shows. Not to mention all of the other people whose livelihoods depend on the shows to continue. I’m all for allowing others to come in to take over these responsibilities.
I’d pretty much given up on Days recently (I’m a 16 year viewer), but have been tuning in again sporadically and have enjoyed what I’m seeing. Keep the new writers!
Days. have been watching Days for many years . why is Sammi hooking up with EJ. crazy what is she thinking . why dont she go be with Lucas that is who she is suppsed to Love we thought. she is acting like a spoiled brat not good. Belle does not know who she wants. if she Loves her Husband she needs to start acting like it. or just stay with Phillip . why dd they take Shawn Daughter is she o.k. looks different to see another girl in Cliare place. how long is John going to be like this with no memory. looks like another John. Marlena is doing good by standing by her man .. good job. hope this strike gets over before the end of the month . will miss Days a lot. we watch Days every day. what will be on if the strikes is still going at the end of the month. repeats or another show.
Keep the new writers, the show has got a little better with them. i.e. DON’T resign the old writers, the show is better with the new ones.
The only bad thing is that they’re focusing to much on John and Marlena, and The sorority girls and the young people are less seen (at least Stephanie and Max). The John and Marlena s/l is boring me out, show less if it.
the show is so much better with the new wrighters.now that john is back the story is so much better.i have been watching days for so many years the show had many good stories.i dont like it now with stories of the kids that is boring sami @ lucas gives the best stories.. bring back the old days stories.and the good old actores then it will be days again
I have been watching Days for a long time and I have noticed the difference in the speediness of the storylines lately. I love it! I can’t wait to see what will happen the next day! It has become even more intriguing and fun to watch….like a good book that you just don’t want to put down.
