WGA and AMPTP to Begin Informal Talks

Wednesday January 23, 2008
As the Writers' Strike reaches its three-month mark, the Writers Guiild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have decided to sit down and begin informal discussions in an effort to end this strike beginning Wednesday, January 23. As you may recall, the strike negotiations broke down on December 7, 2007, as neither side was able to come to terms and reach an agreement.

Many of you have commented how DAYS has gotten quite a bit more interesting since the scab or replacement writers took over. Additionally, the story has been moving at a significantly faster pace. Nowadays if you miss a day, you tend to miss a lot. For DAYS and soaps in general, though, daytime has become very attractive for many actors, since soaps are still in active production, unlike many regular TV series. Most recently, DAYS was able to lure big name star Shirley Jones, who will portray Colleen Brady beginning Thursday, January 31. In a way, the strike could perhaps be good for soaps in general, since soaps as of lately have been considered a "dying breed." On the other hand, many fans are in an uproar over the sudden firings of Martha Madison (Belle) and Brandon Beemer (Shawn) and wonder if the strike has impacted the future of fan favorites. If it ultimately comes down to a choice between hiring new actors or keeping the current ones, I'd rather keep the current ones and give them a decent storyline.

How much longer will this strike continue? Will the informal negotiations be enough to put an end to this strike once and for all and bring the writers back to work? Stay tuned and I'll continue to keep you updated on the latest developments.

This Shawn/Belle were good but I would like them to bring back Jason Cook and Kirsten Storms. That would make the show great again. They had chemistry!

I like the show much better at the current pace ( faster than mormal) Belle and shawn got pretty tiresome….. for some reason they don’t spark much interest as a couple.

(3) Deborah says:

I totally agree with you. Keep Brandon Beemer and Martha Madison. They need a better storyline that doesn’t include a triangle or quadrangle. The characters will only be recast since Shawn and Belle are an integral part of DOOL. Days will lose many viewers when Shelle leaves. There is a petition that has thousands of signatures. It’s http://saveshelle.shawn-belle.net/ Even if your not a Shawn and (or) Belle fan. Days can’t lose more fans and not be canceled in 2009.

(5) Cindy says:

I’m actually happy to see Brandon Beemer and Martha Madison leave. I don’t think either one of them fit in. I have been a Days fan since the beginning (Julie and Susan fighting) and I have been so disappointed with the direction of the show, until the new writers came in. Now I have to watch daily so I don’t miss anything. I actually look forward to Days again.

(6) Nancy says:

In the story-line, the characters of Shawn & Belle are being followed. There were all the pictures that fell out, so maybe these people are going to kidnap Shawn & Belle, along with their daughter.
