Writers' Strike is Officially Over!
The Writers' Strike is offically over as of Tuesday night, February 12. The Writers Guild of America voted overwhelmingly to end the 100-day strike which began November 5, 2007. Thus, it's back to business as usual in Hollywood. Although the union hasn't officially approved a new contract, writers were still scheduled to report back to work today, Wednesday, February 13. The WGA met Tuesday, February 12, in New York and Beverly Hills to vote on a preliminary agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. As a result, 3,492 members voted in favor of ending the strike, wheras only 283 members voted to continue the strike.
As reported last week, DAYS fired it's nine of its writing staff members on Friday, February 1, including Head Writer Hogan Sheffer. This ironically happened during a time when negotiations were proceeding so well in the strike. According to the blog site Deadline Hollywood, the show is now reporting that they have been re-hired and are reporting back to work. "And that a striking writer, if fired, had to be replaced by a striking writer. Not a scab, and not a fi-core member." As of right now, this is not officially confirmed and we don't know for sure who the permanent writers in place will be at DAYS.
Many of us, including myself, feel as though the show has greatly improved since the replacement writers took over. The show is moving at a faster pace, we are seeing more interaction between other characters, more captivating, heart-wrenching stories, and more importantly, we are seeing more of the beloved vets grace our screens. The show seems to have more overall balance between the characters. I hate to see any writers lose their jobs over something they strongly believe in, but I also believe DAYS needs to make changes for the good of the show and do whatever means necessary to keep the remaining viewers and attract new ones in order to bolster its ratings.

I really hope they don’t re-hire Sheffer and the others, cause, as you say, the show has improved much since they replaced the writers with new ones..Please DAYS, don’t re-hire them!!!
The show has been so much better with the new writers….i usually fast forward through most of it because it is a (dream sequence) that we have seen 50 times….please keep the new writers, at least it is fresh and fun to watch….retire the oldies, their in rut
If the writers were fired Feb 1st, you havent seen the “new writers” yet. These story lines were written a least a month ago, as taping was done a couple of weeks ago. So it’ll probably be the first of March at the earliest. This is February sweeps and the story line was planned way back during the November sweeps!
I have wathched the show for at least 40 years and I truly love it. But lately it is always so exicting and you just don’t know what will happen next. I love the new writers.
I have been a viewer for 40 years. I have seen it all. Last fall I seriously thought of not watching. I got so sick of the slow pace, dream sequences, same old tired stories. I, now , can’t wait to see the show each day. If I can’t see it, I tape it. Whoever these writers are, keep them, they have brought life back to this soap opera. It really needed some changes. My 3 daughters have watched it for many years, as well, but last fall they all stopped watching. They would say that they could go a week or 2 without watching and still pick up the storyline. Since the story has gotten so good, I have been telling them what was happening and they all have started watching again. I especially like the storyline of John coming back. He is so awful to everybody. We never know what he is going to say. His conversations with Marlena have been priceless. Linda Burzynski
I don’t know who wrote what - when. All I do know is that I finally got my DOL back and am happy about it.
There is no other show that I care about more than DOL. I care less if the strikers never come back because who ever is writing now is doing a (g-r-e-a-t) Job!!!
Gwen please pass the word on to NBC powers that be that we are finally happy with the quality of writing for DOL.
Thanks
I agree Days has been so much better lately. I too was going to stop watching it was soooooooooooo BORING, but I think if things keep going the way it has been lately I will continue to watch!!
