Joseph Mascolo is Out
Very sad news for Stefano fans, as Soap Opera Digest Online and the May 27th, 2008 issue of SOD have both confirmed that Joseph Mascolo (Stefano) is off the DAYS canvas. As a show spokesperson quotes to Soap Opera Digest, "Stefano is still in a coma and that's where he will remain for now." Needless to say, the beloved actor who has played the show's favorite villain off and on since 1982 is not pleased, and neither are fans. As Joseph quotes in the latest SOD issue, "I'm just so disappointed in them; it's like they double-crossed me."
I'm sure many fans agree with me in that there were so many possible storylines which could've easliy involved Stefano, especially with the recent revelation that John Black and Stefano are half-brothers. It would've been fabulous to see "new" John and Stefano go head-to-head over the DiMera empire and once again see The Phoenix rise again. After all the years Joseph has dedicated his life to the show, this is truly an outrage to have him treated this way in return. Joseph has told SOD that he's been called to do some other work and would love to step on the stage again. As for ever returning to DAYS, Joseph quotes, "They would have to come out on bended knee." This is another case where another show's possible gain will be DAYS's loss. How do you feel about this?

Letting Joseph Mascolo go after bringing him back, is at the top of the really bad decisions Days has made. How can they treat such a talented veteran actor like that. It was bad enough when they got rid of Shawn and Belle, Grandpa Shawn, and others, but this decision certainly tops that in the “Really DUMB Moves” category. I will now stop watching this show. The storylines keep getting worse and worse. I hope the sponsors will someday realize this and drop them. I think the time has come for soap operas to depart the networks.
I think it’s another dumb idea. It ranks up there with killing off John Black last Fall.They need to bring Stefano out of his coma to go head to head with the “new”John & see what happens.Again,what were they thinking? STUPID idea!
I have not watched the show in two months. Taking Shaun and Belle off was a bad move. Now Stefano. He always added a little spice. The show is going in the wrong direction. I have watched since 1967 but the decisions in the last year with casting and storyline have lost me…

Another stupid move by Cordey. Take Joseph Mascolo off the show and another great actor/storyline is gone. I blame Cordey for everything that goes wrong with the show. Take some of the God out of what used to be a great soap opera. Put the great people back into it. We again spend the first 15 minutes of each show watching reruns from the previous day. How boring! Got Tivo or DVR if not get it……During the strike the show was better than it had been in many years. Now back to the same old same old.

I can’t believe they have killed so many great storylines and I can’t believe that Stefano would not rise from this. He has risen from so many things far greater than this. I think that bad decisions are being made at Days and it’s only going to result in it’s cancellation.
Well, that’s it. This Days devotee is history. I was so thrilled to see him back! I’ve been anticipating how Stefano would deal with what Marlena did, a fate worse than death. And she remains her same smug self. As one poster put it, they (tptb) seem DEDICATED to killing the show off. I know I won’t be missed but what TPTB don’t understand is that I’m not going to miss Days as a part of my life.
I’d love to have the portrait of Stefano that hung in HIS home, the one that John banished to who knows where.

It sucks! He is one of the great talents. Although I think the show has made some amazing choices in storyline lately it’s still lacking. They took out Belle and Shawn..2 major characters and let Joseph go now. Where are they going with this? We have enough teens…let’s get back to families and great storylines!!!!

To the writers of Days of Our Lives. You are going from worse to better then better back to worse. What the heck is wrong with you all? Are you having writers’ block? C’mon Ken Corday can’t you do something and get the writers’ in high gear? Days needs Stefano and the DiMeras to keep us on our toes. Keep him please and get John away from the Sissy act you all have him doing. Give him his bahoonies back and let the WAR begin. Quit going in reverse every time you start gaining high ratings again. Bring back Hogan at least he knew who to keep. Dr. Daniel is good but not with Chelsea. Guess you all kicked Nick to the side too? I’ve watched Days for 40 plus years and it seems something is rotten in Denmark. What are the writer’s doing working for the other soap opera shows trying to bring you down Mr. Corday? You got a good cast so keep them all working. Now Ava could good only to return years down the road. Send her to Italy. I swear the doctor part doesn’t become Lexie.Get her a part where she can break bad or something so Abe can show his macho side. Don’t let the show drag on or you’ll lose more fans. Never the same without Stephano,Belle and Shawn.You can get rid of Stephanie and Chelsaeho have never had to answer for anything they have ever done.My friends and I always fast forward them anyway.Now you want to ruin Maxs’life with Stephanie and Daniel with Chelsea——please hes old enough to be her father.Let him have someone neat .E.J.and Sami are great together,Lucas needs to bow out of that relationship.Nicole is hysterical,doing a great job.
I watched the premier of Days when I was a teen & am 60 now. The powers have done some dumb things but I can’t stand to see how stupid they have made the families and I won’t watch ever again.
Been watching this show for over 40 years, and getting rid of Joseph Mascolo is the “straw that broke the camels back” I’M THROUGH!!! Like another viewer said,”I think someone from the inside wants “D.O.L.” off the air, their doing a great job of losing fans
I agree that the show WAS better during the strike than it has been in years. The vendetta storyline was soooo stupid that I almost stopped watching it. The show should have just changed Joseph’s status from series regular to a recurring role similar to Alice Horton. I’m glad to see Kayla and Steve back on the show, but I would have liked to see the “new” John go head-to-head with Stefano.
I am sorry to see that Joseph will not return as Stefano. What a great storyline Days is missing out on. They made a smart move by bring John back but should have interaction between this John before John is the old John again. Ha ha
I adore Joseph as Stepheno.. I always love a Good vilian.. He was just that.. days is gone crazy.. its my favorite soap, but they are doing some stupid things lately ( writers ,etc,,.. Now I hear the show may end in 2009.. you people are nuts !!!!! keep going for us fans & the cast..
I have watched this show since the first day it aired! During the writers strike, I really enjoyed the show, it was more like it used to be. Now it’s as though someone up there came in to show “whose boss” and ruined Days, by firing Shawn & Belle, having Nicole act like an idot and now Stepheno!! The way it looks now, I won’t be suprised if NBC cancels Days!
i’ve watched days for many years..and its gotten more stupid and unbelievable..when joseph moscolo was brought back i couldn’t wait for the excitement he brought..and to fire him…what are the producer/writers thinking?…and getting rid of belle and shawn..give the viewers what they want..or your ratings will go even lower..bring joseph back..hes great…if not..say so-long to a another viewer….get a club days writers…

I am very sorry to hear that Joseph Mascolo has been let go AGAIN!! Stephano has always been one of my favorite characters on the show and Joseph Mascolo is the reason. He is such a talent and the veteran actors are why I watch the show. I agree with others who have posted…the writers have missed a huge opportunity for a great storyline between the new John and Stephano. Plus, we seem to be forgetting that Marlena is the reason Stephano is in a coma to begin with. I would really like to see the payback he would give her for that one! We will miss you Joe!!!
Plain and simple…Days without Stefano, not Days. You can’t get rid of a major story influence and not expect some sort of consequences. Hello? Ratings??
I think Stefano should stay and they should get rid of Daniel and Chelsea!! That is the most stupid paring together that Days has ever done!! let alone he is 20 years her senior!! they look stupid together!! I love Stefano in the show!!

Well, Joseph Mascolo brought such depth to the character of Stefano-I remember when he first came to the show-all these years and Marlena gets away with this? He is far more interesating and multi-dimensional–and congratulations on the 80th (!) anniversary of his parents.
What were they thinking????? They finally bring Stephano back just to let him go again?
If they would write an interesting role for him, he might just help save the show! I’m so tired of this “New John” crap! Bring Stephano back, Have the new John be such a threat that Stephano changes him back to the old John!
Two steps forward, three steps back! This man adds so much more to the storyline. BEG, PLEAD, do whatever you have to to bring him back to Days. The storylines are endless. I love Days and I love Stephano.
Day’s writers are not the writers of yesterday…I think they should let the actors, past & present start writing their own story lines for the show. I’m very disapointed that they have treated Joseph in such a disrespectful way. I guess John Aniston will be next!
I have been watching Days for over 35 years and am dissapointed that there will not be another rising of the Pheonix. It would have been a great storyline to be to see if Marlena would be prosecuted for drugging Stefano. Let the Pheonix rise again.
Days has gone out of their minds. I really do believe that Ken Corday wants the show cancelled. Bringing Stefano back was a great idea. Going head to head with John would have been a pleasure to see. Now, letting Joseph Mascolo go makes no sense. Also, there should have been a face to face showdown between Colleen and Stefano. We fans can write better and see the great storylines that could have taken place.

Reguarding Stefino, you should get him out of that coma, Marlena is not that cold and heartless. Shawn and Bell should have being kept on, their part of the Brady bunch. Stefino and John being brothers, great but it would be great to bring back the old John and fight with his older bad brother Stefino, to have the Di Mera Name repected. I do not like the NEW JOHN!!!!by the way I have being watching Days since it started. The show is not the way it used to be. We want LOVE and more LOVE if you know what I mean…..
I have watched this show from the very begining and “loved to hate” Stefano. Albeit, sometimes the storey lines were far fetched, I think by not bringing him back, would be like cutting Marlena from the show.
Well hearing that the show treated Joseph that way is no surprise. I used to be such a days fan and the story lines have been ridiculous for so long that I can’t even watch the show anymore. Remember the good old days like 10 years ago???? WOW! what are they doing and please people John Black needs to die and stay dead! WOW!! I am so not a fan anymore and it is very sad that the show will be canceled soon… I have no doubts about that!! Days writers if you ever read these…. you really need to double think the way you write things because you are losing what little fan base you have left!!!
I hope that B&B brings Joseph Moscalo back as “Massimo” and possibly rekindle the love affair between him and Stephanie since Eric married Donna. I like Massimo much better than Stephano, anyway!
I have been watching Days of Our Lives since day one–I am sorry to say I do not like what is happening these days and am beginning to lose interest on some days–Getting rid of Shawn,Belle,Stephano and other important characters is quite disappointing–Get rid of Stephanie and Max who serve no purpose and no interest–I hope you producers re-think about all this–you WILL lose fans believe me!
Another brilliant move by Days. No wonder Days isn’t ever mentioned at the emmies. They let go this fascinating character and never utilize the talent they have. Who?? Well, Maggie, Mickey, Caroline, Tony Anna etc. All we see are the same old stories and they are BORING!!
Days will be the looser if they get rid of Stefeno he can bring so much mystery and intrigue to the story lines. Come on Bold pick him up maybe he can do the same for Bold as he did for Days then you will get a heap of people crossing over.

Everytime that Joseph Mascola resumed the character of Stefano, the show instantly gained in its popularity. He was a rare treat to watch. His acting is simply wonderful, and Stefano kept us all on the edge of our seats.
Wow….what you could have done with the story-line of Stefano and John Black. So many things, that it is so pathetic that your dumb writers can’t see. Or better still, don’t want to see.
What a disapointment to their many fans.
You bring on a handsome Doctor, pair him up with Chelsea. What a bummer that is. No chemistry there at all.

I think the writers are making a lot of mistakes. Why in the world would they choose to keep Stephano in a coma. Why did they bring him back at all? I have followed this show for many years and am starting to think that they are passing up some great story lines. I would say it is goodbye to Joseph Mascola for good now. I loved him on Days.
It’s about time the eliminated Stefano! They need to bring the old John back (soon). The continued story line of Stefano coming back to life is getting very old. Stefano should be forever put to rest (not just in a coma so he can be brought back later). It is time for the writers to come up with a new plot instead of reverting back to the same old thing time after time. Also, Rolf should be let go from the show as well.
WHAT ARE THEY THINKING??? I’ve watched Days since the beginning, and it as been a roller coaster for the last few years - when it finally started to settle back down into decent programming, they had to veer off into stupid storylines, and even more stupid casting decisions. Perhaps Corday is off his medications??????????
What a disappointment. Stefano was the best of all daytime villains… hands down!!! His character on Days was a true and memorable staple and brought the best storylines the show has ever seen. It is truly a disappointment how Days has written him off, without even a valid goodbye… but left his character in a lifeless coma. The show will never be the same without him, and I feel this is the beginning of the end. I hope, they beg him back on bended knee at the very least… they need him much more than they realize. Days is starting to cater to the younger crowd with their characters and storylines… big mistake. If they lose their original fan base, they have nothing.

joe mascolo is such a good actor and believable you find yourself badmouthing him while he is doing his scene. I did not like what marlena did. i hate the way john calls her blondie. and I think he remembers more than he lets on. It is a shame that he (Joe) was let go. I did not like what Marlena or none of his heartless children did to him also stefanowas not done right over Johnny. Lucas is a whimp and EJ is too cute.
I love Stefano and am mad about this, if they want to get rid of ppl get rid of Danial, the thing with him and Chelsea is sickning, and EJ and Sami, is boring, I want Lumai back. Days give us more Steve and Kayla, John and Marlana, and Bo and Hope.
I’m actully starting to like Max and Steph.
Stefano was getting pretty boring too, but this “new John” needs to go, seems like he is trying to hard to be funny, yet he isn’t funny at all!

I guess the C’s have decided to push the show into the past(ie., Search for Tomorrow, Love of Life, et al). It is a shame to see so much talent cast aside to further someone’s ego, or slide into the Catatonic state of blissful ignorance
I am very disappointed that Stefano won’t be back. Joseph Mascolo was wonderful. After watching Days for over 30 years & being a fan of the show, I no longer am & will not be upset if Days was canceled. One more thing–I don’t like the new John.

I agree with everyone that wants to keep Stefano. And the story lines are not what they where like in 67. Make the stories more of whats happening with everyday life, read the news and you can get alot to write about. Make us interested again. Bring some of the old actors back that the show started with. They’re are so many that just vanished and we never see them again. Bring us up to date on who started in the first days of DAYS. What they are doing or where they are at. This show needs help. Listen to your veiwers they know best.

The head writer must have a great many screws loose to let Joe Mascolo go. What is he thinking? The show was starting to breath some new life after so many years of mediocrity. After finding out that John and he are brothers, and what Marlena did to him, I could only imagine the great storylines that could have been created. You let him get away once, didn’t you learn anything? I can’t believe you treated him this way after he finally agreed to return to the show. Have watched this show on & off since the beginning & always loved it. Lately however, the story lines are just plain rediculous. I think the show was MUCH better during the recent writer’s strike.

I have enjoyed Lucas being in jail so much. Now that he is back it is the same old the whine gripe complain. Thank goodness I have TIVO. I dont even watch when hes on the screen if the put sami/lucas together I will quit watching as I have many times over the past 10 years Sami ans EJ are a real couple. Not Whiny Lucas.

I have watched this show since the early 80s and have never felt more frustrated. The BEST thing they have ever done was bring back Stefano and Tony - now one is gone and the other might as well be. Next it will be Bo and Hope!!! If things dont change quickly I will be finished with this show. I dont fathom how they let go the best and keep the most stupid…Stephanie, Max….. The powers to be need to wake up before they lose viewers and sponors
I agree with everything that Shirley Wildes & Sharon M. said. I have watched the show almost since the beginning. I am now 54. Big, big, big mistake letting Joe Mascolo go!!! There are soooo many good story lines that could’ve been created for Stefano. He’s the guy you love to hate! He’s a wonderful actor.
I miss Belle, Mimi, Shawn D., and the others as well. They can always pop in & out of the storylines, but Stefano always has a surprise. And frankly, I don’t care for the new robotic John Black DiMera. Please, please, please bring Joe Mascolo back!
Plain and simple advice to the Days writers: Listen to your viewers. We know what we want to see and it isn’t what you are writing. Not only do you have to bring back all the actors that made Days the soap it ‘used” to be…(& they are trying) but, you have to write interesting storylines for them when you do get them back. An example–Anna and Tony.. stupid writing, so far. And,firing “Stefano” is an insane move. Letting go of Jack, too. I am so tired of watching a squinting Marlena interact with a robotic John. And, Nicole ? What a stupid storyline.Give Caroline, Victor, Maggie, Mickey some story. I am tired,too, of Chelsea, Nick and Max and Stephanie. And, the Chelsea and Daniel hook up is ridiculous.Another waste. He needs someone his own age…like maybe Billie, if Days had kept her around. Days has loyal viewers, but, we can only tolerate a boring show for so long.

I’m done with Days. Joe was the only reason I watched the show, and now he’s gone, so am I. If/when I hear that he’s been re-cast, then I will return. Until then, I’ve had my share of stupid Chelsea storylines to last me 10 lifetimes. If anyone should be fired, it’s her, and all of the other dead weight that’s bringing down the show. Joe, if by some chance you read this, congratulations on your parents anniversary. I’m a fellow Connecicut resident and was thrilled to have you in Newington last month for that special occasion. And we all hope you return to television in once capacity or another. You are missed.

I also have been a fan since 1967. I’ve seen the show soar to great heights with such great stories and great actors making us feel we were a part of The Days of Their Lives in Salem, USA.. and I’ve witnessed the really sad/happy comings and goings of those actors.
I miss the family element they have omitted:from personalized ornaments put on the Horton tree by everyone, to just sitting at grandmother Horton’s table for coffee and donuts. Granmothers Kate and Hope are both beautiful people, but don’t project ‘grammy’ Too much standing and talking. Even in their own homes, they stand and talk. Makes one wonder if Corday and Co., didn’t rent the furniture, so he has standing orders to do just that..stand. Lexi is my wonderment- how she was awarded head honcho after all she put ‘us’ through.
Mr Favershim (?) would be a good returnee..and Billie? yes. If we could just turn back time, just one hour daily, back to 10 years or so ago for our daily dose of Salem. And PLEASE…
stop having 10 people all show up at the same place We tune in anymore to see what the meeting place of the day will be. I can’t say I will no longer be a watcher - but Mr Corday? Just how much longer is there to watch??
I waited for so long for days to bring Joe back when I actually seen he was back I thought dang now things will start rocking and rolling as only the great Stefano could at least you brought back some other greats as in Steve Kayla Tony and Anna but to let Joe go what are you thinking you have some very upset fans and in case you didn’t know it the fans are what keeps a show going….hope you can fix the mistake you made

I am ok with Stephano out of the picture, he came back to life too many times in my opinion. And John is too funny to me, I swear he has watched way too many Clint Eastwood movies. But I agree, for the most part, the story lines are lousy, the show is not hardly worth the time of day any more…and I have watched it since around 1970.
