No Emmys for DAYS in the Acting Categories

Saturday June 21, 2008
If you watched the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last night on ABC, then you probably are aware that none of the four outstanding DAYS nominees took home any trophies in the acting category. It shouldn't come as any great surprise, but it's still terribly disappointing not to have a single one of these four talented stars take home an award.

First award went to Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Judi Evans looked stunning, and when her name was called we saw a brief clip of the scene where Bonnie was with her son Connor trying to sneak David Lockhart’s body out of the morgue. Judi smiled radiantly and applauded when Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) won the award.

Darin Brooks (Max) was of course one of the contenders for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series, but no clips of any of the nominees' submissions in this category were shown. Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL) won this award.

Rachel Melvin (Chelsea) was a contender for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series, but no clips of the nominees' submissions were shown in this category either. Jennifer Landon (Gwen, ATWT) won for the third consecutive time.

Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Alison Sweeney (Sami), and Arianne Zucker (Nicole), all looked stunningly beautiful as they walked onto the stage to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, which went to Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R).

Afterwards, Jason Cook (ex-Shawn, Matt, GH), Kirsten Storms (ex-Belle, Maxie, GH) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH) had a brief playful moment before they presented an award for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team, which went to One Life to Live.

During the presentation for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, a brief clip of Thaao Penghlis’s submission was shown where Andre was dressed as a clown and tormented Sami in the hospital last year. The award went to six-time Emmy Award-winning actor Tony Geary (Luke, GH).

Congratulations goes out to all of the DAYS nominees for being recognized this year. For a complete listing of all the winners, visit the Official Daytime Emmy Entertainment Awards Website.

I watch Days every day, but I was not surprised and it seems you were not either. The writers of Days need to come up with good story lines and that they have not been able to do. General Hospital deserved their award and so did Anthony Geary. One Life To Live also very much deserved their awards for producing and writing and until which time the writers can match the writers of these two shows the actors will not receive or deserve an award.

i am so sick of General Hospital winning and all the others. Days has been great lately I look foward to watching it everyday. Hopefully next year will be there year. They deserve it!!!

I did watch the Emmies and agree with the judges. Days was good –the best –during the writer’s strike. I really looked forward to every day. Since then, again, it is boring. Tony and Anna have ridiculous parts… do absolutely nothing. I got excited for awhile when I saw Kevin Dobson was going to play Mickey. I thought –”great” finally something for Maggie to do than flit around giving out free drinks.. but, sadly I was wrong. So another big waste of talent. Then letting “Stefano” go????? What were they thinking? I guess the “powers that be” are too young or not in tune with the history of the show… Stefano is the character that mostly everything revolved around. All the stories are pretty lame. To have “John” walking around as a robot, Philip vs John on the piers–who cares, Chloe and Daniel ( not a believable match)etc etc etc— they don’t see that Days does not have Emmy material. It’s not the actor’s ability or talent… it’s the writing . It’s extremely poor!

Days is a god show if you want to shake up your people use a little ols stuff with a little new stuff .First of all get Doug and Julie to put on some talent show again like they did back in the day and bring on some of that hot talent of those kids.Bring back some nerdy Eugene and collipe and try and mix a little Shaun up in a experiment just to see what makes the whole bthing seem silly .Make a movie out of a show .Have the kids put on a steamy show for charity.Something to get these ratings .I still think you need to bring Jhon back to his one and only .this is getting way out of hand .To erase his memory ? Make a deal and lets work on opening up a new venture for Salem.

Days used to walk away with all the awards at the Emmys and the Soap Opera Digest awards. I feel that since NBC has minimized its support of the daytime drama and cancelled Passions and Another World and has let it be known that it may shelve Days at the end of 2009, it has been downhill for Days at all the award shows. I love Days and watch everyday and there have been both good and bad storylines, but for the most part the actors have been worthy of the noominations and awards. To be it was unbelieveable that Drake Hogestyn was not nominated for his awesome work as the “good” and “bad” John. It was also a crime that Allison Sweeney was overlooked, especially went put up against those that were nominated. In Drake’s case we know it had to do with his firing and rehiring and conflicts with the network, but Allison had a great year. The younger actors did too. I think that each show should be limited to only having one actor nominated per category. I also believe all dramas should be nominated in the bast daytime drama category. While GH and One Life To Live did have good years, they were ABC shows and the Emmys were on ABC, plus ABC and CBS stand firmly behind their daytime programming while NBC does not and thinks a whole day of news is what people what. If people want a whole day of news they can tune in to MSNBC or CNN. I think NBC is totally to blame for this entire matter, not the writers, directors or actors. NBC is the one at fault.

It really irritates me for people to put down DAYS. I admit that there have been some weak storylines, but I think the actors are really great & MOST DEFINITELY DESERVE recognition for their effors as much as any other daytime soap. They have had some great storylines, too, though…I have laughed & cried right along with them!! The veteran actors/actresses are awesome & the newer ones are really good…they all draw you in. I do hate the way Stephano was put away and I am really angry about losing CORE characters!! such as Belle & Shawn! DUH!!! why let THEM go!!! that made NO sense to me. I hated that Grandpa Shawn is gone…but,I assumed he might have wanted to retire. I love that Kevin Dobson is now “Mickey”….I hated losing Billie…and whatever happened to Rex & Cassie??? those are Kate & Roman’s twins!!!!! All in all I still think Days is a great show & I think ALL of the soaps should be included…I agree that I don’t think 1 or 2 shows should be allowed to run off with everything….it’s not fair to the others. Days has some very good & very hot actors/actresses and they deserve some wins!!!!!!

I was really disappointed Peter reckell wasn’t nominated for his bout with the pancreas. He really looked like he was ready to kick the bucket. I have been watching Days for many years and they just can’t seem to get it together anymore. They have these dumb triangles which all fanbases are tired of, not to mention story lines that start and go nowhere. They need to listen to their fans or they will go the way of the other NBC soaps and that would be a shame. There are many talented actors on Days who should have gotten some recognition.

i have been watching days of our lives since the beginning with my mom.. it is very depressing that year after year they do not win awards for acting. Their acting abilities are wonderful their story lines are true to life. What more can i say?

I have to tell you that I watch both and I am sorry to say that GH for a long time has been the better soap. It seems to me that Days has very long story lines. Stephano never dies, boring… The only real story line that I am intersted in is Marlana and John and Sami and Lucus. The rest is just boring
GH is the better soap
