Word has been spreading all over the Internet this week that Emmy nominee Thaao Penghlis (Tony / ex-Andre) has been let go from DAYS. Apparently this is indeed true, as the beloved actor himself posted the following message on Monday, February 2 in his official guestbook:
Must say my gratitude to all of you for all the support. Can't wait to write this chapter. At least I'm in good company and I did live through the best of Days. And what a great group of people who have been there to share it with me. Onwards and off to NY this Thursday for meetings. Changes are in the air. Understand that people's visions are paralleled by the tools they carry. I'm fine and so is Leann. And a great part of me is relieved.
There is speculation that the character of Tony will be killed off in March in a murder mystery, but no confirmation of this yet.
On a happier note, Thaao will be co-starring in a new sci-fi series entitled Emissary, according to Comic Book Resources. The series is created by Philip Morris and Dekker Dreyer and revolves around an anthropologist discovering his destiny as the latest in a line of “Emissaries” or peak humans. Emissary also stars co-creator Philip Morris, Aaron Douglas, and Brian Thompson. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2009.
Congratulations goes out to Thaao on his new series, but many fans are sad to see yet another talented DAYS actor let go. I'll keep you posted on Thaao's final airdate and how the character will exit as the information becomes available.

Good Grief ! Now Tony ! He is another of one of my favorites ! Why on earth did NBC bother to renew this show until September 2010 ! I hope this doesn’t turn out to be another new Salem story. I think I am over this.
I’m with mark (above) why bother to renew when the best have been tossed out the window.We the people want the vets not the kids like melanie who cant even act.Tony, Anna,Steve,Kayla,John, and Marlena will be missed terribly and to have Bo and Hope fighting is just way too much.Bring them back,give them happy endings and let the show go with some of its values and dignity. Ready to give up after soooooooooo many years.

I can’t believe Days is letting all of the main characters go. Even the younger college crowd are into Days, but they too, like the main characters. First John and Marlene, now Tony, Ann seems to already be gone, now Steve and Kayla. The writing is terrible, and no matter who much you say bear with us, I don’t see anything good for days in the near future. Days has sold out everyone! Brining in new talent is fine, but you don’t get rid of your main characters, and expect everything to stay status quo!

Wow!!! What a gentlemanny way to act. We all know how he must really feel. I, too, have watched Days almost since the beginning. I remember when Hope was a little child. It does seem like Days is dwindling down to being cancelled. Well, just to let NBC know, I do NOT watch Bonnie Hunt, the NBC show ,in New York,which is on opposite As the World Turns. Years ago, when they cancelled Another World, before Passions , I started watching CBS. I don’t need anymore talk shows, I like my stories. I hope advertisers read these boards. The ONLY reason NBC is on at any time during the day for me is to watch Days.
I have to agree with all the other comments about letting such talented and beloved actors go. I am sooooo disappointed and angry. Why do this? To keep someone like Melanie there? What a shame. I too, have been watching Days for 39 years and love it. I probably will continue to watch but it will not be the same.
Thaao is a class act. I’m sorry that he, too has become one of the casualties of this latest slaughter. I’ve watched since the beginning and always loved it, but with Kayla and Steve being fired with no exit story, Marlena and John getting the bum’s rush and now this!! I predict Bo and Hope to be next and that will be the end of Days of Our Lives for me.
This is really getting old!!! I love Tony and wished he was getting more involved with his story line. What is up with the writers? I think they have gone M A D!!!
Another reason to NOT watch Days anymore. I was happy when they brought everyone back, but then they forget to give them story lines. Really….. Do we need Melanie? Days was built on solid acting, solid stories about two great familieas and now they are all going and the stories have been awful. I do suppose Bo and Hope are next. Some of these younger actors are just not creating loyal fans. As I tape the show, I forward thru their scenes. Guess I wont be taping anymore.

I have been watching DAYS since day one. My grandma and I would sit together and watch it. I can not believe that it has come to this. Letting the “Talented” go and keeping the likes of Melanie, who is in desperate need of acting classes. If Corday wants to end DAYS, just let him pull the plug so that we don’t have to see the ALL TIME FAVORITE ACTORS: Marlena, John, Steve, Kayla, Tony go in such a poor manner has they have been doing it. Tony killed off, how many times has that happened, Marlena and John just sent off to Europe leaving family and friends like they did, Steve and Kayla… go ahead and write them off, does Corday think he is doing us a favor by not killing, or sending them off into the wild blue yonder. Corday, you are pitiful. Your dad must me rolling in his grave watching you destroy what took him so hard to build. Like I said that I have been watching DAYS since day one, and I think the time has come to go ahead and stop watching, it’s just a big waste of time.
I am finished ! John, Marlena and now Andre are gone and nothing much is left! The baby/Nicole show is tiresome and some of the other actors need stories. Afraid it’s too late to save a sinking ship and everyone doing the show must be sad that the writers are so stuck in the same old rot.
I am so sorry to read the news of Thaao Penghlis being released from the show. He is such a great talent and Days has been lucky to have him. Tony has always been a favorite character of mine and I was thrilled when Leann Hunley came back as Anna. I don’t understand the logic behind any of the recent firings. Thaao will certainly be missed.
Oh, what a waste! I have been watching Days from the first day it came on and tape when I can’t. I was so happy when they brought back Stefano and Tony. The new John was kind of hokey but Marlena is so cool!! As for Hope more so than Bo-kill off “Fanny” I mean Fancyface-lol. I like Thaao but I LOVE Tony. I get excited whe I see him and in my mind we “hook up” everytime. Now thanks to Ken Corday-I HAVE NO SEX LIFE. Oh, the things me and Tony have done******
I too have been watching Days since the day it aired. A lot of actors and actresses have came and gone but now they are getting rid of the best. The ones we watch. The young ones need the older actors to keep a story line. How can all these young people have a life without parents, aunt uncles, grandparents, role models. They won’t and Days will be a thing of the past like so many other good things in life. If Bo and Hope break up or leave the show just go off the air no one will watch.
What are they thinking!!! Are they trying to kill days off totally a little at a time. The stars of the show should not be the ones killed off or sail away on a journey from Salem.

The baby thing with Nicole and Sami is really desperate terrible writing as far as I am concerned… wish they would bring back John and Marlene and let Melony go .. Even Billy was better than melony and this new Chloe romance is a joke!!
days was going off the air soon after my soap passions was.but they got new writers,well they are making days the wrost i have every seen . the only part of the show i like is sami.i like the guys from passions, if they take anybody else off this snow will never make it. days just never learn how to keep the show any good.i feel days will be cancelled if they dont stop taking off the best people on the show, days just will never learn, back in the 90s the show was so much better.days dont be so cheap ,keep the good people on the show or goodbye days

Good Grief!!!What the heck is Days doing? I have been watching Days since the first episode when I was in the 6th grade. Why on earth are they getting rid of all the mature characters? Marlena was boring I can see that–the “new” John made me laugh, along with Tony and Anna. But now they seem to be focusing on the younger actors, I guess Days just wants younger fans. I have to say the storylines have been interesting lately. The writers must be off their drugs–many storylines in the past seemed like someone was on a “bad trip”. I do wish they would change storylines instead of repeating them over and over again, just with different characters–too much is predictable.
I probably know more about Days than some of the writers and most of the viewers and I am very disheartened to see my favorite characters leave the show.
Cheer up. There is always the possum that a totally new brand of soap may appear, with characters who can, given lame dialogues, actually integrate the old and new plot and personality lines. Pretty prophetic, considering we’re about 2 years behind due to lame summer programming of the cricket in place of DOOL
I’ve been watching Days since the 60’s. Do they really think the younger set will be as loyal as ones who have watched for years? As they let go more of my favorites, I just leave the show on while away from the TV, and listen a bit-when I hear the voices of the ones I actually want to see I’ll go sit and watch. I also, like many others quit watching the station after Days when they removed Another WOrld. When Tony goes, I probably won’t even be listening for anyone. It is so sad for them to get rid of all the beloved characters we have loved and followed for years.
I agree with Maxine. I’ve watched this show almost from the very beginning. I would tape it every day while I’m at work. But I don’t think I’m going to anymore. You’ve let some of the best & major actors/characters go. What are you thinking? Maybe you’re not! I followed these people for years & they’re still great & belong on the show. I know what you’re thinking, that you need the younger characters to carry the show, you’ll gain more viewers. I bet not! I’m extremely disappointed. I will no longer watch DOOL.

Bo and Hope are good and I like EJ but if I continue to watch Days I will tape it and fast forward through Melonie, Daniel and hislatest. He is getting old and the same old same old is boring.

I agree with #30 (above) ! Letting Thaao go again is way worse than losing Drake. I will miss Tony not being there. I already miss Anna as well. I think the last time I saw her was when John was having one of his episodes again last year and then during Christmas Tony said she was visting Austin and Carrie.
I sure agree with Nita(#12). Ken Cordray sure isn’t paying any attention to his show. His parents have to be in agony and not very proud of him. He sure has let THEM down as to carrying on with their pride of DOOL.
He is letting those writers write off his best actors and actresses and just using alot of re-run shots of years back and bringing in young wanna-be actors. Too bad for us loyal watchers as I am sure we are all going elsewhere real soon,.
I’ve read the comments. I agree with most. I too have watched Days since day one. I been dissapointed in story lines before. And, I’ve disagreed with the letting go of actors and the characters they played. But, this the beginning of the end for this “soap opera”.
You know… it’s been like reading a good book that never ends. And wile I will be so sad to see it go, I’m going to appreciate the time I will be given in return to do something else. But, I too will remember sitting in the rocker with my Grandmother every afternoon to see what Alice and Tom and Micky and Bill and Addie were up to. And I’ll miss how mad my Daddy would get (he got hooked after he retired) when the cops and the lawyers were so dumb they couldn’t see the facts in front of their faces.
Ok. So I really like EJ. And I have to say that Nicole moved me to tears over her love for EJ and the loss of her baby. Sami… well, I just think Sami will always be Sami. But the better man for her is EJ – I think he has understood her best because of his own connections to doing what it takes to get what you want. Jack and Jennifer could come back if they’d give them a realistic and not so silly story line. And Carrie and Austin are a Days couple that were meant to be together and a backbone of the show. Sometimes I get tired of Bo and Hope being so lovey-dovey all the time. When do they ever have time to work, cook, clean or, hey, spend time with their children! And Hope doesn’t need to be a cop – sorry, but she just doesn’t – it’s a joke.
I know. I’m getting on a roll that most people don’t give a hoot about. The thing is – I would really like to see this show go on. I the characters pretty well and I think I can write. Give me a call.
Well, well, well, is all I can say after all the years the crew has come and gone on several different occasions. It’s so sad we are losing them again. Now if it was only for a short time to give them some rest we could handle it, but to let the original cast go and keep bringing in the wimpy, whining, ones nowadays is really sad. Kinda like when we get old and try to apply for a job the employers look at the older set at not being able to perform the duties but let me tell you I have hired the older people and they have more pride in their jobs than most of the younger set have. They’re not there for payday and knock off time. They are a true breed, not that all the younger set is that way though cause I have worked some that take pride in what they do too.
As for Ken Corday I’ve been writing him on several occasions about the true blue troopers that have been there for his family and him throughout the years. I’m wondering if it can be the money that is hard to get since the economy is so bad or if poor Ken is just tired and wants to let his “Jewel of the Nile” go under? I have watched Days for about forty years plus but got to where all this sucking face amongst the girls with the guys are making them look like trash on and off the set.It’s getting sick seeing so much of it. As for the lovemaking on the eating tables let’s get real for a change and let it be behind closed doors leaving something to our imagination.
As for little Theo I’m so glad that they are letting the show go faster on his illness as I know it is real in daily life and is so sad. We can only keep praying that things will get better for all our children. May the Good Lord bless them all.
Doesn’t make sense though does it that Ken is constantly getting rid of the older set. On the other hand if he could get the older writers back again maybe we could see Days get fired up once more. Like the explosion. It’s about time we had some fireworks and need more between Victor and Stefano themselves not the younger duds. Yes.I spelled it right cause I didn’t mean to say DUDES cause they aren’t. It’s the same old thing.They can’t get the parts flowing fast enough for the younger duds. They can act really good if they have the material to work with.
I’m about ready to throw the towel in too as far as watching the show but it’s like a drug addiction to me since I’ve watched it on a daily basis for so many years, but the addiction is about gone.
As far as Stefano coming back I think he did a good move because Joseph Mascolo is a very skilled, talented, actor no matter what anyone says cause he can make you hate him one minute then love him the next.At least he and Victor can give everyone a run for their money.
I just hope that Ken has a bunch of Aces up his sleeves for the grand ordeal to reak havoc in Salem where there will be several places the cast will be scattered out in different countries to keep us on our toes and bring back Marlena, John, Steve, Kayla, Tony, Anna,Granny Horton and not throw her away too. Bo & Hope I pray will get to stay and not go anywhere. Nick and Chelsea need to be the younger set that gets to stay but there are a couple that needs to be sent packing and one is Melanie and her overacting. Enough already!!!!
Where is our beloved couple Doug & Julie? They along with Maggie & Micky should be the ones filling the shoes of the Hortons from the past. Glad to see “Little Red” Maggie Horton getting all fired up cause she’s been quiet too long.

Hear! Hear! I so agree with Shirley about the tried and true Horton Clan. It’s time for Maggie and Mickey and/or Julie and Doug to be the raining anchors of the families of Salem.
I’m glad that we haven’t had to witness the demise of Alice. They keep her alive even though she isn’t seen on set anymore. I still miss Tom and love hearing him announce the second half of the show every day.
I can’t stand Melanie. I think Matt and Chelsea make a terrible couple. In fact, Chelsea, go ahead… go. And, to think that Stephanie and Matt actually used to be famous, talented race car drivers!!!! Give me a break!!!! Enjoying having the original Phillip back – he’s doing a great job. Do not miss Shawn Brady and Belle Black at all. What’s Eric Brady up to? And, I really can’t get used to having the Passions boys on Days – Louise and Ethan do not belong in Salem. The old Brady Black was fabulous – I guess he got smart and moved on… but I’m delighted that Arian Zukor came back – and I’m a little disappointed that she didn’t get the chance to continue the story line she was portraying so well of being a “changed” girl for EJ and her baby.

I am so very disappointed in dool. The writers have gone completely crazy! Days used to be so good I couldn’t wait to see it every day. I have recorded it for over 25 years. This week I cancelled the recorder. If I see it ok, but I’m not worried if I don’t. You are getting rid of all the good actors; the ones htat made the show great. If you get rid of Bo and Hope and Maggie and Abe, Lexie and Roman it will be a whole new show. And if you let Hope sleep with someone else it’s over! Please save Days. don’t destroy it. It would be better to end the whole show now!!!!
I have watched days since it started,I agree with everyone, I like Sami,EJ,Nicole,Lucas but the other young actors-just notup to par. The writing is predictable, baby switch! The send off of these great actors have been humiliating(John,Marlena,Steve,Kayla,now Anna and Tony)What a slap in the face for their work and dedication. I do not know how much longer I will watch. I have only ever watched NBC soaps. Days of Our Lives is the only soap opera I watch at all now. I hate ABC/CBS soaps. All the characters are the same and they are all very boring. But DAYS is, or atleast was, diferent. The only interesting storyline in DAYS now, and in the last two or three years, is the Sami/EJ and now Rafe one. Everything else stinks! I am really sad Tony is being killed off. He is one of the few veteran actors I enjoyed watching. I’m glad Steve and Kayla are gone. I’m sorry but they weren’t that interesting to watch. I think is was time for John/Marlena to give other couples a chance to reach the status they reached, but I think they should have been kept because they are a classic couple that still were interesting. I dislike most of the current characters on the show now. Chelsea, Melanie, Daniel, Stephanie, Phillip, the new Will, the new Brady, and the newly written Chloe all annoy me. I ALWAYS change the channel when they are on. Even Lucas and Max annoy me these days, and I used to like them. I have always hated Lexie and Kate and would be glad if they left. I am indiferent to everyone else, but I do feel the writers really need to make things better soon!

OH COME ON! Not Tony!!!!! I remember how I hated him……actually not him, the evil fraud. Tony’s role has been one of the best on the Days. Now that the evil Nicole is squirming because of Tony—–I would like to see her glowing moment getting exposed!!!!! Tony is truly a great actor. And if you have to go, THANK YOU more making MY Days worth while. You will be missed. Hopefully the writers wake up before they lose all the great talent….so many have left the show and then the remainders are getting bad plots.

I adore Thaao’s character. You can tell he is classically trained; such bravado. He is a wonderful character actor and part of the glue of the show. I have watched DOOL for 35 yrs. and seen many wonderful actors depart. Sad, sad, for “Tony” is one of the reasons I watch the show. He is truly one of the sexiest men on TV. DOOL needs to re-evaluate their priorities. Writing stinks.
PLEASE don’t kill Tony. I have been a fan of Days for decades and with Marlena and now Tony gone and going I am so unhappy. The baby boomers who have been watching this show need the older people also. Let Marlena have a diff. life. She is a class act and so is Tony even though you have changed him around alot but he always cool and suave,etc. Just don’t kill him–maybe you will figure a way for him to return again if you are so set of him leaving. Well I’ve had it with Days. First it was Deidre and Drake and now Thaao!

I’ve been a fan of Days since I was 8 yrs old from the very beginning of it. Watched with my mom & older sister. I’m now 52 and have loved this show for SO long but I’m tired of them getting rid of my favorite characters & actors!

I know you recently killed off Tony. Days has always brought back the dead. Bring him back while it is fresh. Make it like Tony faked his death to get Nicole back. Its not too late! I think that it is ridiculous to get rid of Tony too. I have been watching this show for 30 years. All the main characters are gone. I would love to come in and write a show for you all because it is obvious that you all are not thinking here people! Get Melanie off the show. She does not know how to act. She is so cheesy. I think what made days are the actors and better story lines..you have let too many good actors go……They are now all gone or leaving soon…The writers need to stop and think of what made DOOL so great..Go back to the basics…I would not put any of the new actors down they just are reading their lines and are doing a job but the writers are another issue..Please stop and think of what you are doing to the show the cast and to all….before it is too late…..Tom and Alice yrs past made the show a center a stable couple….We need that back on the show…The ones let go made the show….Why do you not see this…I have watched days since 1965…and you the writers may need to go back and review of what days really was and still could be…..The writers are most at fault for all of this……I hope you read tis and it takes to your heart….I could write much better story lines then that….

I have watched Days since the beginning in 1965. It used to be about the lives of a family of doctors with some attorneys thrown in. NOW, it seems to be gravitating toward a story about a bunch of thugs and high collar criminals. I’d like to see Sammi do something besides cry. Days only has a few “Actors” left after the firing of all the favorites like John and Marlena, Tony and Anna, and Patch and Kayla. With “Chloe’s” looks and talent, she should be doing something better than her role. Whether the show stays or whether it goes makes no difference to me since it is being written the way it is now. Thank you.

i loved john and marlena, tony and anna, steve and kayla,now they just fired max.i will keep watching but its not the same.i like thaao penghlis on days.i will still like these stars even thou there not on.
