Days after "rebooting" Days of Our Lives, a move that had been publicized for months, the NBC daytime drama could suffer a major setback. Soap Opera Digest is reporting that James Scott (EJ), whose contract is set to expire in May 2012, and the show have been unable to come to terms on a new deal and that he could be leaving the soap.
Scott, who is unquestionably one of Days' most popular stars, joined the soap in 2006. He was handpicked by then head writer James E. Reilly, who'd seen and admired his work as Ethan on All My Children.
"[He] actually conceived EJ with me in mind," said Scott, when he joined Days. "My manager got a phone call pretty soon after the end of All My Children about the role and was asked if I'd be interested in it."
Scott was and eagerly relocated to Los Angeles for the gig, where he was brought into the Salem fold as Stefano DiMera's long missing son, EJ. The character has been front and center ever since, as Scott has enjoyed successful screen romances with leading ladies Alison Sweeney (Sami) and Arianne Zucker (Nicole).
It's nearly impossible to imagine Days without Scott. Hopefully, the show and the actor reach an agreement that keep EJ in Salem.
Scott, who released the following† statement via the show's publicity department, seems hopeful: "It has always been my wish to continue working with Days of Our Lives, and, in light of recent reassurances given, I am optimistic of my future here at Days."
