Poignant Story Turn for Days of Our Lives' Bo and Hope

By , About.com GuideNovember 9, 2011

Follow me on:

Peter Reckell and Kristian AlfonsoDelving into Alice's secrets has provided more screen time for Days of Our Lives' Bo and Hope. Soon, the Salem supercouple will be getting even more, as they head to counseling.

"Bo and Hope have had some issues over the last couple of years," says Peter Reckell (Bo). "The reason they came up is because they never really resolved the worse thing that can happen in somebody's life: having a child be killed. They're going to start to resolve that."

With help from Dr. Marlena Evans. "Marlena's back, so they're going to do it with her," shares Reckell, noting that the show's tackling Bo and Hope's decision to seek counseling in "a very interesting way. I love how they've written it.

The couple finally resolve to work through the loss of their son, Zack, after Johnny goes missing. Reckell thinks the timing is right, defending the fact that Bo and Hope didn't seek professional help right after Zack's demise.

"You don't want to talk about that stuff right away," contends Reckell. "You want to get as far away from that pain as possible. That's what Bo and Hope tried to do, and it didn't work. It just pushed them apart. Now, they're trying to go back and deal with that pain. It's difficult stuff, but dealing with it is pulling them so much closer together."

This is what the thinking public that loves Days and BOPE have been waiting for!!! I hope its done properly and over more than 2 shows of 4 minutes each…and for the other commenter, this could only be boring for a borly…

I totally agree golfnut. I LOVE realism over fantasy/over-the-top soap opera scripts any day (with the exception of Dark Shadows, but that soap was supposed to be campy).

More real is one major reason why soaps outside of the US are still popular and going strong.

Want do you want, lily? More demon possessions… another island storyline? Maybe bring back someone from the dead?
If they do this right, a lot of Kleenex’s could be used!!!

Thank you. Love it. Can’t wait to see it. Peter and Kristian were awesome during the Zack storyline, it broke my heart and to this day I find those scenes hard to watch.

I can’t wait for them to really play this out.

This is a general statement about this forum.

I think we all need to remember that this is just a TV show soap opera. We’re discussing a TV show not current world affairs, so some of you need to calm down and hold back on attacking people. I’m just glad some of you don’t know where I live! lol!

I just read some back posts that seems to be still going strong and some of it–wow! Unbelievable attacks.

Anyway….

Boring ?????…..I lost my husband about the same time ‘Mickey’ died ..two thumbs up for the writers & Ms. Rodgers..her reactions, emotions & how she dealt with his death could have been my own..I only hope the new writers do the same for this storyline..I know its only a “soap” but it got me thru some very rough times & hopfully will do the same for someone who has lost a child….

It’s about time. Yes this is all make believe but it often mirrors real life. Therapy is not something that most people are open to but watching in some small way will help those who are suffering. I watched Gene Simmons Family Jewels and I thought he was faking it, goig to therapy, doing it all for publicity. In the end, I don’t think it was fake. I’m glad they shared it and in the end they had a beautiful ending.

All the so called real life storylines have done nothing for Days ratings. The ratings have tanked.

Actually Lilly, the ratings of Days and other US soaps have been see-saw: Up one week, down the next week, and so on…But for the most part they ALL are losing viewers.

We can all play the “blame game” but really, no one thing is to blame. Just the sign of the times.

After DOOL leaves, I’m only watching British soaps and Spanish novellas because those are kickin’ serious butt in their homelands, so it’s more like a sure bet they’ll be around my entire lifetime.

Hey, now that’s an idea: Maybe the US should do novellas….This way the the soaps stay fresh with new ones replacing old ones every 6 months or so..That sounds more American anyway, as we Americans tend to easily get tired of old things and can’t wait to replace with something new.

I AM LOVING THIS STORY! Days has been really good lately! And I agree, who needs lame demon possessions etc. This is going to be an amazing story where my favorite couple who I have watched since the early 80s gets to do some more incredible acting, and draw us into their story with their incredible acting and raw talent. I am looking forward to it! Days ratings have been back and forth like every other show, and not just soaps. Ratings are all over the place for all TV shows! And Days has had a lot of ups, and then some downs, and Days has been renewed and from the articles I have been reading, looks like Days will be around for quite awhile which I am SO happy about!!! Been watching for decades, and have remained a true fan, even through Marlena’s possession story! This story is going to be far from BORING!

I do however, don’t understand why EJ would kiss Sami when he fears his son is dead, I mean they hate each other and with good reason, I love their chemistry and they have such a great dynamic together, but come on. It is just wrong to have her hook up with him. Ugh! And it is obvious Carrie is eyeing Rafe, she is making it way too obvious, hopefully it doesn’t go where it seems to be going.

Wondering who the baby picture belongs to? Likely people would be Madison or EJ? Guess time will tell…

Have watched days for 45 yrs or more. I will not watch the Will gay storey line are the writers crazy. I also will not watch Sami and EJ go at it again. Days has good couples like Daniel & Jennifer, Bo/Hope Maggie/Victory ect why do these storeis. I also can not stomace Jack again looks like my Days viewing time mabe cut down.

Great! its about time the tragedy is dealt with in a realistic and adult manner (I trust that what working through it means) Again, please do NOT bring Bille back if its another round of Hope/Bo or Bille/Bo. Been there done that so many times its ridiculous. Its about time Bo and Hope get to be happy!!!!!

Why are they going to hAving Sami
and EJ have sex . I can believe the new writers know the history of Dool
Who wants another gay story line .
What is wrong why not listen to the fans.

(17) linda :

Why would the writers write a storyline where Sammi and E.J . have sex when their child is missing. are they crazy?? Any mother worth being called Mother would be so distraught that her child was missing that any man even attempting anything at that time would surely suffer severely. She has a husband that has a that has seen her through many, many things. He is the one she should turn to. Must be men writers that thought this up. A good woman writer would know better.

I love Bo and Hope and I’m so glad they are back together. I’m also glad they are going to address their problems and work through them. Non-communication was what drove them apart before. They are my favorite Days couple, I’ve been been a viewer for 40+ years, but EJami comes in at a close second. I’m hoping we will be seeing those two work out their problems and come together as a couple and unite their family.

(19) Linda :

Why on earth would the writers think up a stupid storyline about Sammi having sex with E.J. when her son is missing? Any mother on this earth, that would take the time out for sex during this period, doesn’t deserve the title mother. sammi has done some pretty unusual things in the past, but she has always been loyal to her children. This line doesn’t do her justice. Also, even thinking of Jen leaving Daniel for that weirdo Jack is another line that I hope doesn’t happen.

Oh My Goodness….Have my novenas been answered????Will EJ and Sami find comfort in each other? Can I get an A-MEN!

(21) sylvia :

Yes, please do have some heartfelt, family oriented, realistic storylines. So sick of the fantasy stuff. The gay storyline will turn alot of viewers off. Days let some of the best actors go and brought back some of the worst characters. They do nothing for the shows ratings. Chloe should’ve stayed and been paired with Quinn or Brady. No need for Madison. No need for Carrie and Austin. Should be more Hortons’s. Isn’t Jennifer kind of related to Daniel now through marriage? Wasn’t Melany in love with her cousin, Nathan?

I have watched days for 30 years on and off. Ratings could be down because mothers are out working more now, and don’t have the time to enjoy tv much anymore. I have just recently began to catch some episodes, and I love that Jennifer is back. Yes, bo and hope do need to deal with the death of thier son. I don’t cry much, but when they showed hope grieving, I was crying right along. That was great acting. I’m glad to see that days is still on. It reminds me of when I was 10 and my nana and I would watch the show together. She’s now gone from us, but I still remember the memories. I’m sure its not easy to write a hour show everyday. Kudos to the writing staff!!!!!

(23) Claudia :

Counseling for Bo and Hope would be good and very realistic but I still want them to deal with somethings in a realistic way. Like EJ and Stefano and Kate having to deal with all their evil deeds. They always let the bad guys win. Not right! Also Sammi should have to deal with the fact that she totally RAPED Austin and got away with it. Now that she is grown, she should be having guilt from it and problems. She is a very spoiled rotten little girl and gets away with everything and never learns. Not pretty for a woman in her forties. Writers do something!!!!

I lost a son at age 28 and it is so very painful. So this story if done correctly will help people get help.

Thank-You for doing real life. I
love days!

I have watched Days since the beginning. It was getting
pretty good but now Sammi & EJ and Will being gay.
Johnnie missing was very well done but I think I am done
now. Whats going to happen is old news. Sammi will end up pregnant with EJ’s kid Yuck. I don’t think I will watch
any more. Glad to see Marlena & John back. Stupid story line but happy to see them back. Rafe is the best. He should dump Sammi for the way she has blamed him for Johnnie. E.J. is a real creap, doing that to John and his own son. No I don’t think I will watch any more
