Days of Our Lives in 3D?

Imagine a Days of Our Lives future in 3D? According to Drake Hogestyn (John) the NBC soap has actually shot such an episode.

"They brought Sony in and four cameras," explains Hogestyn. "I heard Sony is thinking about a 3D network at some point. We shot the whole show in 3D, as a test."

And who better to test the concept with than Hogestyn and his Days nemesis Joseph Mascolo (Stefano).

"We started with eight scenes of Joe and me," recounts Hogestyn. "John comes [into the DiMera mansion] and Stefano just kind of laughs him off. John knows that he's behind all [his legal troubles] and puts it to him. We have some interesting shots."

Without giving away story, since the episode hasn't aired yet, the scenes involve Stefano's chessboard and John tossing something at it.

"The chess pieces go blowing into the cameras," notes Hogestyn. "I got to see how it looked, afterwards. All the technicians were sitting there watching it with [special] glasses on. I watched scenes with Deidre (Hall, Marlena) and Chandler (Massey, Will), too. It's kind of hard in the beginning. It's like watching floating people."

Nevertheless, Hogestyn thinks a 3D television network would be intriguing. "They've been doing film in 3D for a long time, but for a television show to do it ..." he muses. "That would be interesting."
