The latest issue of Soap Opera Digest has broken the news that Shawn Christian will be leaving Days of Our Lives for several weeks in 2012, but that the character is slated to return. A Days rep confirms that Christian will depart in mid-January.
The timing seems odd, considering it comes on the heels of the big story reveal that Daniel is Maggie's son; a twist Christian was thrilled about.
"I love that they have given me some roots to Salem, because I've been on the fringe for quite a long time, making a lot of mistakes," explained the actor. "People will tolerate that for only so long."
Christian added that he was also "excited for Suzanne Rogers (Maggie). It gives her something new to play, as a character who's seen it all, done it all, and been through it all," he said, admitting he was eager to work with her. "My job is to challenge her as an actress and as a character, who's all about family."
While Christian won't be able to do that for a while, he is keeping busy with other projects In fact, he filmed a guest spot on ABC Family's Melissa & Joey in October, portraying Sam Davis, a love interest for Melissa Joan Hart's Mel.
"Playin another 'Misunderstood' character, Lil' comedy misbehaving," tweeted Christian.
The episode, titled Pretty Big Liars, is slated to air next summer.

I love Shawn so much – such a nice guy! I’m sorry he’ll be off the show for a while. I hope the reason he’s doing it is because he has other projects going on and not because Daniel’s no longer needed.
I SO much want he and Jennifer to be together. I used to love Jen and Jack, but I’m over him. Though I do think Matthew Ashford is doing a great job with the post traumatic stress acting.

I think there is something funny with this. Its says that “Shawn Christian” will be leaving for several weeks in 2012, but it states that the “Character is slated to return” I take that as a possibility that Shawn might leave the show for good and “Daniel Jonas” will be re casted. I am sure Shawn will be the one returning to the role, just be away for a few weeks which will probably figure into some storyline of his having disappeared or something.

I read the article and I must admit Uribal does have a point. Lets face the facts, Shawn is 46 years old and I’m sure as an actor he wants to do different projects. While he is on this break doing side projects, if he gets an offer for a major lead in a prime time show with more money or a role in a big screen movie, I think he will not be back on Days and Daniel will be recasted. I like Shawn but don’t be surprised that in April 2012, we’ll be reading about him doing a another show and not returning.

I really liked Daniel and Chloe. I can’t take Daniel with Jennifer, she’s the problem not Daniel. If SC is leaving for a little while, then let it be when he finally sees there no future with Jennifer Boreton. Jack is what made Jennifer interesting. Daniel/SC needs sizzle and he had it with Chloe until that pairing was ruined for nothing. Daniel needs to be paired with someone as interesting and as hot as he is. Jennifer is living in Alice’s house. She should start making donuts.
I won’t miss the Daniel character because he threw Chloe under the bus when she was depressed, sick and tricked. The Jennifer romance is ridiculous, she is like a 50’s housefrau and he is a hottie from the passion pit. And her daughter, ugh.

Daniel has grown on me since he has been with Jennifer. When he first came on the show I could not stand him because he was jumping from one woman to another (even had a brief encounter with Kate) ugh! I also have enjoyed the Maggie storyline…it has a lot of possibllities. Hopefully he will be back!

Jack and Jen are TOXIC, but Daniel and Jen are great! I think they have a sweet, real love feel to their relationship and they have potential to be a strong couple. I love Daniel and Jen together and have been anxiously waiting for her to choose him. The characters work because of the actors who play them. This timing doesn’t make much sense to me. Daniel is becoming more important in the show. I love who the character is now I love Shawn playing him. Also, I am mad the writers messed with Gaby and Will just to do a PC storyline. Boo!!!!

I can’t believe they are letting him go. Days has a habit of letting really actors leave and keeping the so-so ones. I really wanted him to get with Jennifer. Jack is so immature and just plain silly. Jennifer needs a mature and strong partner.

I don’t know what everyone else sees but I don’t see it. I have watched DAYS for a very, very long time and can’t ignore Jack and Jen’s history. They used to have the spark and it’s gone because of the writing. Not because of Jack. Make Jack settle down the goofiness a bit, show his clever wit and success at career. Put him back in charge of a newspaper. Let him leave Jen for awhile and then maybe the spark that we used to love will return. Jen needs to go after him for change.
As for Daniel– the actor is fine- but the character is not right for Jen. Daniel used to be a bed hopper. For goodness sakes, he dated a teenager and her grandmother at the same time. Now that he’s no longer hopping beds– he’s boring. Jen would never be with someone who used to hop beds and ruin marriages (ala Chloe and Lucas). Not to mention, Daniel and Jen are even more boring together.
I haven’t watched the show in 3 years and only heard about this from a friend who won’t stop telling me about it. I was a loyal viewer for 35+ years but I completely lost interest when they broke up Daniel and Chelsea. Rachel Melvin and Shawn had the best chemistry of all the couples. DOOL had a perfect chance to create another “Doug and Julie” for the next generation of viewers and they blew it. As someone who was a much younger woman to an older man (fiance killed by a drunk driver many years ago) I remember finding it so offensive the the pairing of Daniel and Chelsea was perceived. In retrospect it was the main reason I stopped watching.
Bill: While I haven’t watched DOOL in 3 years one of the couples you mentioned was my favorite – Daniel and Chelsea. However, you are wrong about age – Chelsea was not a teenager. She looked very young because she was so thin and with a small build but Chelsea was 23-24 years old. Daniel, at the time, was 43 and 20 years is no big deal at all.
Shawn is a talented actor and I really love his cute smile.
Will miss Daniel on the show…….loved his chemistry with Chloe…..they absolutely were awesome together. Daniel needs to bring back Chloe if he really loved her as much as he claimed. Wish him the best in future !

I have been watching days for over 30 years with my grandmother and mother. Now with my children as well. I think the idea of opening the public to Will being gay is fine, but having him display it in any way shape of form will have to put me in a position to stop considering it something I would care to watch anymore as a family program. That would be a shame since I grew up with most of these characters and NBC affiliates feel it is ok to put there liberal agendas on all of it’s audiences. That is their opinions and not right to expoit it on daytime tv..
Don’t take Shaun Christian out of Dool.He is a great actor and stand up guy, he balances out some of the E.J. crap that I am so sick of,same old same old junk. Plese keep Shaun and his character on the showhis storyline with Jen/ MelissaReeves is so romantic and heartwarming.
I am so sad that Daniel is leaving i love watching him everyday he is such an amazing and sexy actor, I like Jenn but i so do not want her with Daniel! Writing the storyline of him being Maggies son was wonderful especially with the connection between Maggie and Melanie. As for Will i have been saying for a while now that i thought he was gonna turn out to be gay, and he really needs to stop being so cold with his mom she is not the only one to make mistakes in Salem!!!!!
I love Shawn’s character…..but I don’t like him with Jennifer. Hate that he is taking a break, but looking forward to his return. I just started watching Days again this year because of all the same twists. Started loving it again and I love Daniel and Jenn. Jack and Jennifer had their day. Of all the people to take off Days for a while it had to be Shawn!!!! I can’t believe that and I do believe you will loose some of your watchers. Your ratings will go down during the time he is gone because he along with a few of the others ARE THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE SHOW. The show is just getting VERY interesting and then he goes off. It’s going to have to be some mighty good scenes to make up for his loss. Seems when something gets really good and interesting then it’s shot to _____!!! I suspect that Daniel is just the first to leave and “Days” days are numbered, too…If ABC could dump “All My Children” then it tells you exactly where soaps are headed…Reality shows are crap…We live reality every single day…Our Mothers and Grandmothers loved their “soaps” on the radio and then finally on daytime TV and for awhile night time, too…

First of all, I love Days and have been a fan almost from the beginning. I love Shawn Christian and hope that he is only leaving temporarily! I’m also a “Daniel and Jen” fan. Jack can go. I just have to also say, I love “Daniel’s daughter “Melanie”. She is a great actor and brings a lot of fun to the show. Especially now that she and Chad “are” or may” be a couple.
I love Shawn’s character, Daniel, and he is a fantastic actor. I have seen him play other characters, but I sure hope he is not leaving for that reason. You have lost too many characters, Days, so make sure you keep Shawn around.

It seems as though every time a story line gets interesting, the writers change it. We haven’t had a real opportunity to enjoy Jen and Dan together. Jack came back to spoil everything. There is a potential chemistry in the couple of Jen and Dan. Why is Shaun leaving when his life on the show has so much potential???? Shaun Christian is terrific in his role. I look forward to his performance every time he appears. I only hope he returns to Days. He will be sorely missed!!!!!

ok I like Shawn’s character alot I do like him and Jen together but he and Chloe were a much better match I agree with that. As for replacing him. It would take some getting used to just like it did when they replaced Bo remember but we got used to it. (glad our Bo is back tho) when they replaced Jen we get used to it or even Bell & Shawn D.it does take awhile. If Shawn wants to leave the show (I don’t want him to) but we cant blame the writers for that. I think we have to give the writers a chance it is a whole new team and I have to say it is better then it used to be. Nobody is gonna like every story line in a soap opera. Usually if you give the story time to play out it works. As for Stefano ,EJ Kate you have to have some evil in a soap or it would get quiet boring don’t ya think? Husband and I plan our days around DOOL. We schedule all of our Dr. appointments and shopping before or after days. We have watched for many years and still watching since we’ve gotten old. The show has become a total screw up. Bringing Jack, Marlana, and John back like they did was stupid. They were history!!!Give us a break. Will’s role has never been very important anyway. Just can’t understand what the writers are thinking. Jack is BOREING as HECK.
I sure hope Daniel doesn’t leave the show. Hate the way things are going for him now. I felt that he and Jen are done but with Risa Rinner coming back, maybe she might be his new love interest.
I believe the writers will be sending Daniel away to get some type of “miracle” treatment for his condition, and he’ll return later completely healed! You know how miraculous the medical treatments are on soaps! I love Daniel, and I want him and Jennifer to get together. Jack can find another love interest — maybe Madison because I don’t like her with Brady! I LOVE Days!!

Well I hope its only temporary. I love Daniel’s character. I thought he finally was going to be happy with Chloe but no such luck. Then Jen came along and there was hope again. There got to be someone for him, he’s such a great guy. Don’t stay away too long Shawn.
I hope it’s to give Jennifer a chance to get over Jack i can’t stand him get rid of him a put Jennifer back with Daniel on his return soon.
I also think that reading between the lines it appears that the character is returning but not Shawn. This would be very sad because I too feel that his relationship with Jennifer more depth to it than with Jack. I have been watching Days since the year after it started and have always loved Jack and Jennifer together. However, their relationship was very lacking. Jack was always selfish – it was always about him. Dr. Jonas and Jen make a powerful couple. They have an “adult” relationship of warmth, love and caring for each other. If they bring in another actor, it won’t be the same.
Hopefully the same actor comes back as Dr. Jonas…he brought a different “qirck” to the show..and their is magic between him and Jennifer…
I am sorry to see Shawn leave, even for one episode…However…Having said that,let me say that I have watched this soap for over 40 years…I am more than disgusted with Jack and Austin…I find myself not watching when either are on screen, and has gotten to the point that I don’t care if I watch or not…Matt and Patrick have got to go…Patrick yesterday and jack tomorrow !!!!!!

so you’ve watched the show while characters have been raped and murdered but someone being gay is too much for you? give me a break. good luck finding another soap to watch they’ve all got gay characters on them. go and watch the 700 club, i’m sure that show has the “family life” you’re looking for.
I’m not happy about Shawn being off the show for awhile. I think he and Jen are perfect together. I’ve never liked Jack because he’s always been portrayed as a goofball. It’s time Jennifer had a real man and not a clown. She has got to be getting tired of his antics and she and Daniel deserve to be happy together.
Dr Jonas is one of the best actors on DOOL. Hopefully he will return soon. Melanie is his hot daughter. They both have great story lines and should remain a huge part of the days dialogue.

I have been losing interest in Days, mostly because of the ongoing roles of E.J. and family. About the only reason I was still watching was because of Daniel and his family. I am even very disappointed in Marlena and John’s return. Mainly because I get tired of John’s trials and tribulations. I would have liked it better if only Marlena had returned.

You need to do something with the show it is getting a little boring. You need to keep Jennifer and Daniel together and make it exciting by having Jennifer go fine him. And put Jack with another person I know the best way to do that is have the cast take a trip to fine Daniel and Jack fine a love interest on the trip and make a venture and exciting stuff to happen on the way. I’m so happy that Daniel is leaving! They have kindly gotten rid of all of the worst actors/characters including Vivian, Carly, both Taylors, Nathan, Stephanie and young Will. While Shawn is very handsome, his hotness is where the appeal ends for me. I’m never moved by Daniel’s sorrows or pains. His sarcastic comments when dating Jen were getting so old. Jen is way too classy to date such an egotistical self-righteous guy like Daniel. If they bring Daniel back, I hope he’s played by a better actor. Now I only wish that Melanie would join him in his exit. She’s such a nervous fidget. Any calm cool stud like Chad DiMera, or even Dario (who I’d like to see return), would never date such an insecure character like her. Daniel and Melanie should ride off into the sunset together. I’m really liking most the cast, storyline and set changes lately! Glad they brought back Doc Marlena, John and Quinn!

what happened to jack’s teeh? his looks were so fabullous and now he looks like he has neglected his teeth and has aged so much. no longer terribly attractive and his bad teeth make it hard to look at him. not appealing. who would want to kiss that mouth? porcelian veneers would be a smart move for jack’s character and for the actor portraying him.
Daniel/Shawn is the best looking guy on Days and I will really be disappointed if he leaves for good. Dr. Daniel Jonas is a good guy. I’m not happier with his choices in women either. Chelsey was to young, Kate was to old, Chloe wasn’t good enough. I like Jennifer but they are not a likely pair. Anyway, thats the way soaps go. I do wish that they would let some couples be happy and give us real people something to hope for. Daniel would be great with the right woman (me!) LOL!. I also think Brady’s HOT but Daniels got him beat as a package. I also skip a lot of scences with EJ & Nicole & Sami’s drama scenec. I just get tired of it over and over again. I like fresh material. It doesn’t bother me that Will is having trouble with his feelings … I just hope the material doesn’t get to raw. Somethings are better left unseen.

Shawn is leaving for a month to do some filming! He is coming back okay! Some of us are glad not to see Daniel hogging up screen time! I know I could do with a month not seeing the writer’s pet! No, Daniel is not essential to this show. Get another person with six-pack abs, and he will do just fine. I hope that Shawn finds a better job than this one, because Days hasn’t done him, or his character any favors! No, not all the fans want him and Jen together! Majority of us hate this coupling, and feel it ruins them both! They are not deep! Whoever said that, must be watching another soap. They went on 3 dates and had sex. Jack and Jen’s relationship was built overtime, and had much more sexual tension and passion than Daniel and Jen could ever hope to have! Alls Dan and Jen do is make out, and talk about Jack. Where is the depth, or the passion? Alls they do is tell each other how wonderful they are. Do they really even know each other? NO! The drab Daniel and Jen relationship cannot compete with Jack and Jens!

If he were to leave, then there would be a major loss of viewership, whereas if Daniel leaves, not so much. If you don’t believe me, just go on Daytime Royalty, Soap Opera Central,even Marlene’s facebook page! Fans hate Daniel and his baby talking daughter! Even people who don’t like Jack, dislike Daniel! In every poll done, Jack beat Daniel on who should Jen be with! Right now, Jen is as unpopular as Daniel, maybe even more unpopular. Now I don’t hate the character, but I don’t have a reason to like him. His character is written as a womanizer who goes from woman to woman and falls in love at the drop of a hat. Hopefully, they will write him better when he returns, and maybe give him a better love interest, so me and the many fans who wanted Jack back, can have Jennifer redeemed and see her chase Jack. Now I have watched Jack and Jen’s story from the beginning! he only left her once, and she also screwed up plenty of times in their marriage, and she needs to own up to her mistakes, and needs to win back her husband. Seeing them work together again will be great! I would love to see the PTSD storyline more. Jack is never boring alone, or with Jen. How can he be boring anyway, when he is only on once a week? By the way, Matt looks mighty fine for 40! I find him to be very sexy! Six-pack abs are a dime a dozen. Intelligence, wit, charm, and a well-built physique are not!

As someone who has been an avid fan of Days since 1996, I am glad that Dr. Daniel or as me and my mom call the Good Dr. is leaving. I was okay with him and Chloe until he did her so wrong, but I don’t like him with Jennifer. They are so boring and pretentious together. I love Jack and Jennifer together and hope they can get back to the spontaneous, romantic things they use to do together. Also for the people commenting about Will’s storyline, this is not about him it’s about Daniel. You homophobes say it isn’t family programming anymore by making him being gay. But you think it’s okay and that its family programming when all the straight people on Days are slutting it up with each other, cussing each other out and being evil and vindictive? Hypocrites, this is a soap opera that is joining the 21st century like the other soaps who have had gay characters for years. i have been a avid days watcher since the 80’s.. i do not care for daniel with jen.. I don’t know who is love interest could be.. chloe was too young for him and i hate to say this but jennifer is too old fo rhim…they look ridiculous together.. jennifer is meant to be with jack.. I have been a Days fan forever and I am not happy with the whole gay thing going on. You can have a decent show without open expressions of affection between the same sex. I am not prejudice, I think the heterosexual scenes are a bit much also. I expecially didn’t care for the latest scene with Sami and EJ. Ugh! Just keep writing good story lines and stop worrying so much about sexuality. Also, I am very upset that Daniel is leaving. I hope he comes back and has a future with Jennifer. Jack needs to go. Also, if John says “That’s a fact” one more time, I think I will puke.

Very rarely am I distraught over the departure of a character but Daniel leaving really broke my heart. I really LOVE him! He’s so warm and kind and yes, HOT. So I decided to research what was going to happen to him and I am SOOOO relieved to have just read a tweet by him from Jan 23rd that says… “Thank you for all the kind words regarding Days. I was off for a short hiatus. I’ll be back causing more mischief and mayhem soon.” YAY! Daniel and Jennifer are great together. BTW, in real life he’s 46 and Melissa Reeves is only 44.
I will dearly miss Shawn Christian And I hope that he does come back soon though I understand he has other plans. He is a terrific actor who happens to be close to my age, and so extremely handsome! I have always watched “Days of our Lives” and that is the only soap opera I have ever watched. He will be sorely missed especially by me.
Although my career ended once I had a stroke that rendered me half
blind in both eyes, I can still see he’s 1 of the most handsome man I’ve ever seen!
I just watched “Murder in the Hamptons” that he was in, and as expected he did his usual wonderful performance!!! This just made me miss him that much more! Bring him back soon!
I am beginning to watch Days less & less. It has been the only soap I have watched for a very long time however, every plot & every actor that you enjoy, leaves. I loved Chloe with Daniel, that had to change. Melanie with Rafe’s brother, he left, Melanie with Chad, that is delayed. Now we must have Abe & Lexie having problems, the only sane couple on the show!! I tire of seeing E.J. going back and forth between being good & evil. I loved him with the first sister of Nicole, then brought in a second one which didn’t even begin to go with him, now it’s back to Nicole. Can you not have something stable on the show? I will give it a while longer but if things don’t change, I will use my hour for something more worthwhile.
They need Daniel back on the show ASAP to be with Jennifer and get rid of Jack. He should have never come back on the show. That was dead history b4 they left. Jennifer is awesome. There is no chemistry left for Jack and Jen but with Daniel Hot Hot Hot. Sami NEEDS to grow up. Upset or not why would loosing your child have made you want to have sex with someone you hate??? Melanie and Chad 2 thumbs up. Abigail needs a life. But Not with Austin.
Will I ever see Jennifer and Daniel back together They are great together. Jack would be better on another trip Somewhere.

I watched from 1965 to 1972 and started watching again in 2005, I loved Patrick Lockhart and Bonnie Lockhart (don’t like her as Adrienne). Dr. Jonas had tooooo many women on the show, even Chelsea. I wanted Chloe to get over her paranoia. John and Marlena do not have good roles right now. Bo and Hope and Sammi made me mad leaving their kids with everyone else all the time.
With Dr. Jonas gone they have toned down Melanie’s part. I think they need to bring back some of the people from long ago again (maybe the original Marie again).
I am ready for Austin, Carrie, Abigail, and Will to go.
