Matthew Ashford to Star in 'Winning Favor'
Matthew Ashford (ex-Jack Devereaux) has had no trouble keeping busy since his departure from DAYS in September 2006. The beloved actor is now shooting a feature film entitled Winning Favor, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2009.
According to a Sioux City Journal article, Matthew stars as Loren DeJong, who is head coach of the MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District basketball team in Orange City, Iowa. The feature film follows the 2005 boys' basketball teams from MOC-Floyd Valley and Unity Christian schools. Both squads brought home state titles to the small Sioux County community in Iowa. Matthew refers to this movie as a "timeless story" which involves community, the power of friendships, and how teenagers can sometimes teach adults.
As DAYS fans may recall, Matthew Ashford played Jack Devereaux off and on from 1987 until September of 2006, when Jack and Jennifer departed Salem for London. This is the actor's first role playing a coach. Coincidentally, Matthew is originally from Davenport, Iowa, where he spent the majority of his childhood until he moved with his family to Virginia at the age of thirteen.
Congratulations to Matthew in his new role in this movie! I'll be sure to let you know more information as it becomes available. He is definitely missed on DAYS and has indicated more than once that he'd be open to a return, so hopefully the show will one day have enough room for his character.

Know times are hard nowadays but I hope Days of Our Lives will live on forever and a day. It has been part of our lives for forty plus years. We can relate to the advice that Granny Horton (Frances Reid) could alway dish out so well that it was as if she was giving it straight through the TV screen. Missed her on the 4th of July this year. Ken please keep her there on the show. She just can’t retire completely cause she has us to still give advice too. The show is so much better since it’s getting the orginal cast back and raising cane not going on too long with the same story. Start rough housing like the other soaps and get that score to the tip top again. Please don’t give up on Days because it’s a jewel not a diamond in the rough. It’s a Family Jewel that has taken hold of many people and without it a lot of hearts and souls will be broken as will our spirits. Be the longest show to ever run on daytime. Pass it on to someone else when you’re gone to carry on. Never say die and let Days play on. Great work Mr. Corday, the cast, and writers.
I love Days of Our Lives and have for Yrs.I am glad Matthew has other things to do in his life But I would love for him to come back to Salem. We need our star reporter. I hope Days is around another 40 yrs. Long Live Days.
