Ava's Decision

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Chelsea is readmitted to the hospital and Kate is by her granddaughter’s bedside. Daniel informs Lexie that Chelsea lost consciousness at home and her temperature is 101.3. Lexie questions if Chelsea’s been overexerting herself. Kate says she and Chelsea were at the pub this morning and quips that Chelsea wasn’t doing cartwheels. Lexie deduces that she has a complication from the pancreatic surgery. Kate implores Daniel to start talking.

Daniel later examines Chelsea and gives the attending nurse instructions on running some tests. Kate urges Daniel to spill what’s wrong with her. Daniel can’t diagnose until he has all the facts. Chelsea awakens and assures Kate that Daniel will take good care of her. Nick arrives and reveals that Morgan called him about Chelsea. Kate informs him that the doctors believe she’s having a complication from the operation and suspects that Daniel knows more than he’s letting on. Nick sits by Chelsea and tells her that they were supposed to have a movie marathon today. Daniel orders everyone without a medical degree to clear out of the room.

Daniel later feels Chelsea’s hand and forehead, then instructs the nurse to give Chelsea 500 milligrams of acetaminophen for her fever. Chelsea implores him to tell her the truth now that everyone’s out of the room. Daniel and Lexie exchange glances and encourage Chelsea to just rest for now.

Outside Chelsea’s room, Nick brings Kate coffee and asks if she got a hold of Billie. Kate was unable to reach Billie but left a message. “I just wish that she was here. Chelsea really needs her mother right now,” laments Kate. Nick suspects that Bo’s on his way, although he tried calling but couldn’t reach him on his cell phone. Kate says she called Bo at home and on his cell, but couldn’t reach him either. She notes how weird it is that he was just released from the hospital but can’t be reached.

Daniel later sits beside Chelsea and begins to tell a story about one of his previous patients, but stops himself due to the doctor/patient confidentiality rule. Chelsea encourages him to continue, so he agrees and tells a story about a huge football player who came into his office to get a physical. The football player was sweating about getting a shot, and the second the cotton ball hit his skin, the patient fainted. Chelsea then admits to Daniel that she’s scared. The nurse enters and shows Daniel some stat results. He looks them over and instructs the nurse to put a rush on the rest of the tests. A worried Chelsea assumes that it’s not good news. Daniel suggests they wait until they get all of the results and implores her to find something else to focus on, like a funny movie or favorite vacation. He asks where she would go if she could go anywhere in the world. She admits her first choice would be Australia. Daniel shares how he went there a couple of years ago and discusses surfing. He brings up a place called Neptune Island, where they have intense caged diving expeditions. Chelsea smiles how Australian adventures sound like a nice vacation. Daniel assures her that she’ll be there sooner than she thinks. Chelsea smiles and jokes how next time she’s scared she’ll picture herself going nose-to-nose with the great white. Daniel then leans in and kisses her. It turns out that it was only Chelsea’s fantasy. Daniel then notes that her heart is racing and her face is flushed. He proceeds to run down to the lab and see what’s taking so long. After he leaves the room, Chelsea rolls her eyes and calls herself an idiot.

Outside the room, Daniel encounters Nick and Kate and allows them to see Chelsea briefly. They enter Chelsea’s room and intend to stay by her side until she’s better. Nick even cancelled his class, insisting that he needs to be with her. Chelsea warns them that if they keep acting as though there’s something wrong with her, she’ll eventually believe it. Kate agrees to act as though everything’s normal. Lexie approaches Daniel and questions if he got the results. Daniel warns her that it’s not good.

EJ arrives home at the DiMera mansion excited to tell Sami about the new office Mickey has for him. Sami is too busy to care, as she’s getting ready to take the twins to the park. EJ offers to get a sweater and come with them. “Actually, don’t bother. You’re not coming with us,” states Sami. EJ reminds her what happened the last time she took the twins to the park on her own, in which Johnny wouldn’t stop crying and Allie got a rash. “Are you implying that I can’t take care of my children by myself?” questions Sami. EJ states that it’s a lot easier if they do it together. An annoyed Sami says she’ll be fine. EJ reminds her that they agreed to spend more time together as a family. Sami ignores this and searches for Allie’s hat. EJ finds it for her and asks her to let him come along. A jealous Sami asks what about his client. She affirms that she doesn’t want him working with Nicole and is angry that he didn’t listen to her. EJ brings up her behavior at Chez Rouge and tells her that both she and Nicole were acting like a couple of babies. Sami questions why she’s getting the lecture. “Because you’re my wife,” he replies. “Be very careful how you use that word. Only in the presence of a government employee,” she scowls.

EJ asks her to just forget about last night. Sami wonders if that means he’s going to call Nicole and drop her as a client. EJ refuses, stating that it would be completely unprofessional. “Well, then I guess it’s clear where your priorities lay,” she deduces. EJ grabs a hold of her arm and asserts that his priorities are with her and the children, which is why he took the job in the first place. Sami suspects that Nicole only wants to be around EJ in order to irritate her. EJ insists it’s a simple divorce which will only take a few weeks. Sami predicts that Nicole will find a way to drag it out for as long as she wants. She issues an ultimatum: “Until you drop Nicole, you’re not going to the park or anywhere with your son,” she affirms. “How dare you. How dare you blackmail me with my own son,” accuses EJ. Sami affirms that Johnny’s her son too.
