In Kayla’s hospital room, she tells Steph about Steve hanging up on her. Steph urges her mom not to get worked up about the situation, as it’s not good for the baby. Kayla speculates that it has something to do with his old girlfriend. She is determined to get up and go find Steve. Steph urges her to calm down. Kayla summons nurse Maxine inside her room and requests to see a printout of the baby’s heartbeat. She notes that she hasn’t had one single contraction and believes there’s no reason to keep her there one minute longer.
Maxine re-enters and informs Kayla that there’s no way she’s getting out of there today. Kayla of course protests and insists that the baby’s in no danger, as the heartbeat has been steady and regular. Maxine warns Kayla not to even think about signing herself out, teasing that it can take days to get the paperwork in order. After Maxine exits, Steph notes how Maxine reminds her of Kayla. “Very funny,” remarks an annoyed Kayla, who insists that she’s perfectly capable of looking for Steve. Steph encourages her mom not to get herself worked up again. Kayla tells Steph to give her the phone, then calls Roman and asks him to come and visit her.
In Bo’s hospital room, he calls for a nurse and Lexie enters. He urges her to release him so he can go find Hope. Lexie refuses and questions why he won’t let the police get involved in Hope’s disappearance. Bo insists that he needs to deal with the situation on his own and asks Lexie to release him. She can’t, so he proceeds to get out of bed. She intends to call Abe and threatens to have the orderlies restrain him to the bed if she has to. “You can’t hold me here against my will,” states Bo. “Like hell I can’t,” huffs Lexie before she exits. Bo removes his blood pressure cuff, struggles to get out of bed, and flashes back to Steve telling him about crazy Ava.
Lexie re-enters Bo’s room and informs him that Abe’s in court, but Roman’s on his way. Bo reiterates that he doesn’t want the police involved. Lexie tries to persuade him to confide in Roman. Bo insists that getting the police involved would be a mistake. Lexie encourages him to make her understand, but Bo can’t discuss it. She worries about Bo’s recovery, affirming that he’s not just her patient but her friend as well. He urges her to have faith in him that he knows what he’s doing.
Roman enters Kayla’s room and mentions that Lexie called to inform him of Bo’s crazy idea of getting out of there. Kayla fills him in on the recent phone conversation with Steve. Steph briefs him on Ava. Roman assumes that Steve went off to handle Ava on his own. Kayla admits how worried she is about Steve. Steph tells Roman how worried she is about her mom, as she keeps getting herself worked up. Roman advises Kayla to just do what is best for the baby for the time being. He offers to get involved and do some looking around, although he can’t put out an official APB on Steve yet since he’s not officially missing. Kayla thanks him for coming by on such short notice. Roman assures his sis that he loves her and gets the feeling that Bo’s not going to be as easy as Kayla. After Roman leaves, Kayla asks Steph to find her some water or orange juice. After Steph exits, a sneaky Kayla begins removing her gadgets.
Bo apologizes to Lexie for getting her and Abe involved, but the last thing he needs is Roman in on the situation. Lexie urges him to talk to Roman as a brother, not as a cop. Bo begs Lexie to just trust him and tell Roman anything except what’s going on. Roman enters and asks Lexie what’s going on with his little brother, aside from being pigheaded and ornery as usual. Bo claims it’s no big deal and Lexie’s just being a mother hen. Lexie claims she called Roman down so he could talk some sense into Bo, who’s been threatening to check himself out. Bo says he’s simply ready to go home. Lexie threatens to call Roman again if Bo keeps threatening to leave the hospital. Roman jokes how he will put Bo in custody if he has to. “Under what charges?” questions Bo. “Reckless stupidity,” affirms Roman, who tells his little brother to listen to Lexie and behave himself. Roman smiles how he’ll be talking to Hope if Bo talks any more nonsense, then asks where she is. Bo lies about Hope being at home resting. Roman and Lexie exit the room.
Kayla enters Bo’s room and fills him in on her recent phone conversation with Steve. She confronts Bo about Steve coming to visit him right before he disappeared and suspects that Bo knows something. Bo claims he doesn’t have a clue. Kayla also confronts him about Roman stopping by her room and mentioning how Bo was hell bent on getting out of the hospital. Bo admits that he wants to go home. Kayla asks where Hope is. Bo claims she’s resting, but Kayla’s not buying it and demands for Bo to spill. Bo reluctantly reveals that there’s an unstable woman in Steve’s past. Kayla knows, as Stephanie told her. She wonders how Hope is involved in all of this. “Ava’s got her,” reveals Bo, since Ava believes that Hope is Kayla. Kayla is stunned by this revelation and wonders how it’s possible for Ava to mistake Hope for her. Bo has no idea, but that’s what Steve told him. Kayla assumes that Steve has gone off to rescue Hope. Bo rants how they wouldn’t have had to deal with any of this if Steve had just told him in the beginning. Kayla insists on calling the police, but Bo discourages this since Steve believes that it would make things worse. Kayla reveals that she told Roman about Ava. Bo informs her that Steve told Abe about the crazed woman. He insists that he needs to get out of there and find their spouses before Abe and Roman figure anything out. Kayla discourages him from doing this and believes that she’s the one who should go out and try to find them. Bo balks at this idea, since she’s pregnant and can’t risk the health of her baby. They agree that they can’t just sit there and do nothing.
