Old School Tactics

By , About.com Guide

Meanwhile, Nick asks Melanie how hard it can be to get Max and Stephanie out of jail with all of her connections. Melanie claims there’s nothing more she can do, stating she’s just as broke as he is. Nick suspects there’s more to her story than lack of funds.

Back at the pub in Salem, Nicole proceeds to go powder her nose. Trent overhears Caroline on the phone nearby talking to Max. Max reveals that Nick is in France, which a surprised Caroline says aloud. Max asks Caroline not to tell Trent where they are. Caroline agrees to keep mum. They exchange “I love yous.”

After Max hangs up, Sebastien the guard informs them that bail has been set to ten thousand Euros. Steph wonders if there’s something Seb can do, but the guard says it’s not up to him. If they can’t find the money for bail, they’ll be separated and sent to city lockup. Max and Stephanie give the news to Nick and Melanie. Mel is amused, so Nick chews her out and blames her for getting his friends into the mess. Max proceeds to call Trent. Melanie protests, asking her brother if he wants her to lose her freedom. “We’re in jail, Sweetheart! You don’t get much less freedom than that!” Max exclaims. Melanie panics and claims Trent will never trust her again. Steph exhibits no sympathy for her. Max implores her to find the money to bail them out, suggesting that she call a friend. “But my reputation will be ruined!” whines Melanie. Max implores her to choose between their father and her so-called reputation.

At the hospital, Daniel has just finished giving Philip a check-up and reports that his wound is healing nicely with no sign of infection, and it doesn’t appear that the scarring will be significant. “Ah, that’s too bad. I was planning on showing it off to the ladies,” jokes Philip. Daniel proceeds to bring a nurse in to dress his bandages and asks if he has someone to drive him home. “Of course he does,” answers Kate as she arrives. She asks how her son’s doing. Daniel says he’s ready to go home, provided he doesn’t drive. He follows Kate out asks if everything’s okay. She expresses how stressed she is over work and the recent hospital lockdown. “And there is this sense of dread I have that Chelsea will find out about us,” she despairs. Daniel tries to assure Kate that Chelsea won’t find out.

A nurse later finishes dressing Philip’s wound and he runs into Chelsea. She introduces a little girl named Erin to Philip, who spins around and copies everything Philip says, appearing to be autistic. Chelsea encourages Erin to look at her, and praises her when she does. A nurse takes Erin to get some stickers. Philip admits that he’s impressed with Chelsea and notes that she seems to have a real connection to the girl. She asks if he’s seen Daniel. Philip says he’s with Kate somewhere around there. Chelsea brings up what happened right after Bo and Hope renewed their vows, wondering if the reporter’s accusations had something to do with Victor. By Philip’s silence, she assumes that Philip knows what’s going on and what the evidence is. Philip reveals that the evidence which Bo got rid of had to do with him. Chelsea lays into him for standing back and letting Bo take the rap for him. She believes that her dad made a horrible decision in protecting him and notes that Phil doesn’t even seem to care. He insists that he does, but it’s not like he asked Bo to do it. “Regardless Philip, he did it for you! He’s risking everything, for you!” she emphasizes. Chelsea reminds Philip that Victor has a reputation for “old school tactics” when it comes to handling business. Philip notes her word choice and believes she’s been watching way too many movies. He refuses to apologize for emulating a businessman and working his butt off to succeed. Chelsea insists that she understands, rehashing how her selfishness cost Bo and Hope their son, which she has to live with every day of her life. Philip says it’s not the same. Chelsea disagrees, stating that if her dad goes down, Philip will have to live with it forever.

Meanwhile, Daniel and Kate argue about keeping their secret from Chelsea as Kate fears she’ll find out the truth. An agitated Daniel wonders how the secret will come out, since no-one else knows. She barks at him to just go back to his patients. Daniel speculates that Kate is resentful that he has moved on and things are over between them. Kate refers to him as one egotistical bastard. She rants how she doesn’t want to see Chelsea hurt or to see her in a lot of pain. Daniel apologizes and swears to do whatever it takes to protect Chelsea. He admits that he cares about her, and vice versa.

Kate admits that she’s been on edge about Philip and expresses how she never wanted him to get into his father’s business. She brings up the ordeal with Bo. Daniel wonders if Kate had something to do with the reporter’s accusations. Kate confesses that she knows about the evidence which Bo tampered with, but tries to assure Daniel that whatever she and Bo have done, they’ve done to protect the people whom they love. Kate explains how she gets into a pattern of trying to do the right thing, but only ends up making things worse when things spiral out of control. “You’re a good mother, Kate,” assures Daniel, as he holds her close. Chelsea peers through the door window and witnesses the close moment. She slowly opens the door.

Back outside the pub, Victor apologizes to Bo for asking him to protect Philip, claiming he was ill and not thinking clearly. He offers to help out Bo in any way. Bo gives him the third degree. A contrite Victor reveals that he told Caroline what they had to do to protect Philip, although he didn’t tell her what was on the tape. After he walks off, Hope asks Bo what their next move is. Bo states that they need to find out if Paul’s dead or alive. If he’s dead, they know who killed him. Hope wonders if Bo really believes that John is capable of murder just so he can ruin Philip’s life. Philip calls Bo and states his refusal to let Bo take the fall for his actions.
