Moving Into the House of Horrors

By Gwen Morett, About.com

The threesome later open the box, which contains Stefano’s favorite champagne and cigars, along with a collection of opera and DVD favorites. A daunted Anna wonders what it means. Tony believes it’s Stefano’s idea of trying to unnerve them. E.J. suspects that Stefano’s on his way there, but Tony doubts he would show his face with the police watching him. Anna is freaked out by the situation and excuses herself.

Tony later asks a distressed Anna why she’s crying. She expresses her fear that Stefano’s coming back. Tony doubts his father will just walk in there and resume his former position as head of the manor, since he wants to stay out of prison. Anna reminds Tony that Stefano’s anger is extremely far-reaching, warning him that The Phoenix will not like Tony taking his place. “Oh, and then there’s John,” she adds. Tony asserts that it’s about standing up for what’s right and turning the family around, and getting that “ruthless android” out of that place. He apologizes for sounding diabolical and insists that he just wants what’s best for the family. She is clearly uncomfortable with moving into the “house of horrors.” Tony claims it won’t be for long, and states his intention to get John out of there.

John and Marlena make love on her desk. After the deed is done, John enthuses how sensational it felt. “I knew that I could win you back!” he smiles. Marlena asks if this was like a challenge for him. “Absolutely!” he exclaims, before he says that’s not what he meant. Marlena is appalled. John receives a call from E.J., who summons him back to the mansion. He tells E.J. to take care of the situation and hangs up on him. Marlena quickly gets dressed and tells him that he’s not the man she was in love with. John asserts that she’s coming home with him and refuses to take no for an answer.

John and Marlena arrive outside the mansion, where she tries to discuss what happened at her office. “We made love. It was what it was. Don’t dissect it,” he interjects. “I think it was a mistake,” she says. John kisses her, insisting they could have something just as good as they did before. A flustered Marlena pulls away, insisting that the only reason she decided to come home with him is because Lexie wouldn’t let her go into her own care. She states that it’s just for one night. They enter the mansion to see the package of goods and sort through them. E.J. approaches them and reveals that Tony’s moved in, reminding John that Stefano wants to reclaim his empire. “Over my dead body,” warns John.

Meanwhile, Anna informs Tony that John is there, and predicts that he’ll flip out when he discovers that they’ve moved in. Tony tries to assure a worried Anna that Stefano is just playing games with them and is far away. He answers the phone to The Phoenix himself and questions where he is. Tony appears daunted when Stefano announces that he’s coming home.

At the pub, Kate expresses to Daniel how she couldn’t sleep last night after thinking about the upcoming meeting with Chelsea. Daniel admits that he feels like a dog keeping the truth from her. Chelsea arrives and reluctantly sits down, not knowing where to start. Kate expresses how deeply sorry she is about everything. Daniel affirms that it was never either of their intentions to hurt her. “The problem is, how do I get past the fact that my boyfriend slept with my grandmother?” she muses. Kate insists that they never meant for any of it to happen and it’s not something they planned. Chelsea asks Daniel if he took himself off of her case because he was hooking up with her grandma. Daniel says no and admits that he started having feelings for her at that time, but rehashes how he had a bad experience getting emotionally involved with a patient before. Thus, he thought it was best to remove himself from her case.

Kate recalls how she ran into Daniel at the pub, where he had a drink too many, so she got him out of there and they ended up talking and turning to each other. Daniel admits they were both vulnerable and not thinking straight. Chelsea argues how at that time, Daniel had just told her how he felt about her, and Kate also knew how she felt. “But there was nothing romantic going on between us at the time, and I had already decided that I was not going to get involved with you. There was no way,” counters Daniel. Kate admits that she knew Chelsea had a crush on Daniel, but she believed Chelsea was still in love with Nick. Daniel and Kate express how they both thought Chelsea would get hurt if she was involved with the doctor.

Chelsea knows they never meant to hurt her, but asks why they didn’t just tell her what was going on if they didn’t think it was wrong. Daniel believes it would’ve been awkward, since it wasn’t anything more than what it was. “Then what was it? A fling? A cheap little affair?” questions Chelsea. Kate states that it was neither, because they both realized that it couldn’t continue for many reasons. She excuses herself to answer a call. Daniel insists to Chelsea that they can put it behind them and move on. “I don’t wanna lose you. I can’t,” he pleads as he takes her hands. “You’re a player, just like everyone warned me, and not even a girl’s grandmother is safe around you,” she remarks. Chelsea doesn’t think she can forgive either one of them.

Kate rejoins them, where Daniel implores Chelsea to think about the situation very carefully. Chelsea admits that she wants to get over it, but can’t get over the fact that they both knew how she felt about Daniel. She walks out of the pub in tears.

Chelsea heads back to the hospital, where Lexie asks if she talked to Daniel. Chelsea admits that she really wants to get past it, but declares that she and Daniel are finished. She later sits with Theo while he lines up toy animals. She tearfully tells him good job. “Ouch,” he responds as he notes she’s crying. Chelsea says it’s a big ouch. Theo stretches his arms out for a hug. She tearfully embraces him.
