Mr. Mysterious

By Gwen Morett, About.com

In Marseille, France, Max talks to Steph on the phone from the French Bistro before making connections with Nick. He loses Nick, who is at the Java Café checking out Melanie’s video blog. Chelsea approaches him and asks what he’s dong. He turns the video off and asks her how things are going at the child development center. She says it’s going well and notes how stressed out he seems. Nick shares how he’s trying to get a hold of Max but can’t get through. She sees his screen and assumes that he’s surfing blog sites now. He claims he’s trying to be more social. Chelsea notes how pretty Melanie is and asks who she is, but Nick says he can’t tell her that. Chelsea refers to him as “Mr. Mysterious.” She notices the name “Premiere Party Girl” and admits she never would’ve pegged Melanie as his type. Nick says he’s just trying to move on with life, like she did. Lexie arrives with Theo and happily greets them. Nick asks Theo how his summer is going. Lexie smiles that he’s loving his new school and teachers, then brings up how Chelsea’s going to be assisting the occupational therapist today. Chelsea admits she’s looking forward to it and enthuses to Theo how much fun they’re going to have together. Lexie invites Chelsea to have a quick bite with her so they can get to know each other a bit better. She invites Nick to join them, but he declines. Chelsea takes Theo to get some food while Nick attempts to call Max again.

After Nick fails to make contact with Max, he watches Melanie’s video blog again. Melanie raves how she loves to party, but would love to fall in love as well. He closes up his laptop and makes a phone call needing someone to cover his summer school shift for the week, insisting that he needs to leave the country for an emergency.

Max sits down at the bistro as Les is nearby. He sees Melanie enter and flashes back to Les accosting him about Melanie. A drama queen approaches Melanie and states that they have a global catastrophe on their hands, recalling how she was just at a club and Gigi has her hands all over Gabe. The whiny gal drags Melanie out of there as Max continues to eye Les.

Max approaches Les, who refuses to go anywhere until he finds Melanie. Les then spots Melanie across the room and begins to manhandle her. Max tells Les to name his amount and he’ll pay for it. “Who the hell are you?” questions Melanie to Max. Max hands Les some money, insisting that it’s all he’s got. Les says it’s not nearly enough. Max implores Les to take his 500 Euros and walk out the door. Les tells Melanie she got lucky, thanks to her friend. Melanie’s drama queen friend approaches her and is eager to read her latest text message, but Melanie blows her off. Melanie asks Max why he would pay off her debt. Max says because Les had it in for her, then wonders why she would borrow from someone like that. A defensive Melanie tell him that it’s none of his business. She hands him her bracelet to help cover her debt and refuses to answer any more of his questions until he spills who he is. Max claims he’s just somebody who’s concerned about her. The spitfire demands for him to reveal who he is, insisting that she needs to get going. They sit down, where Melanie implies that guys who hand over money like Max did usually want something. He notes her attitude problem. She whines how he’s starting to freak her out. “I’m your brother,” he spills.

John sorts through papers at the DiMera mansion when a frantic Ava emerges and insists that she’s being followed. She predicts that the cops are going to do everything they can to pin Paul’s disappearance on him. John believes that once the tape surfaces, it will “change the spin on the ball.” E.J. enters and apologizes for interrupting. John makes it known that he’s having a private conversation and would prefer to whisper sweet nothings in Ava’s ear. E.J. advises John as his lawyer to talk to him if he knows something. John states that everything’s on a “need to know basis. E.J. requests to have a word with Ava in private. John leaves the room. Ava assumes it’s good news, but E.J. gravely warns her that it’s quite the contrary.

John goes downstairs and sarcastically asks Paul how he’s doing. Paul’s only interested in getting the hell out of there and questions what’s going on with the recording. John says it hasn’t surfaced yet, otherwise Philip obviously would’ve been arrested by now. Paul deduces that something went wrong and recalls how John mentioned that Ava sent an email to the cops about a police cover-up. John confirms this, but states that nothing’s happening. Paul seethes how he wants to bury Philip and wants him away from his daughter. John offers to have Morgan come meet with Paul once Philip’s defeated and once Paul has disappeared from Salem. Paul suggests they arrange that now, since their current plan isn’t working.

Back upstairs, E.J. reveals to Ava that Judge Fitzpatrick has been removed from the case and her replacement is someone who is one of the toughest judges in the state. Additionally, E.J. informs her that the D.A. just received new evidence, which involves an email correspondence between her and one of the goons who tampered with the plane in Ireland. An unsettled Ava claims it’s impossible, since everything she sent was erased on her father’s computer and she made sure nothing could ever be traced. E.J. states that there is direct evidence which links her to the death of three people. Ava wonders what about the fact that she was being drugged. E.J. believes there’s very little hope now. Ava asks about a deal, but E.J. doesn’t think he can get her a favorable one in light of the new evidence. She hears John re-enter and asks E.J. not to say anything to him. E.J. warns John that if he doesn’t let him know what’s going on, he can’t help him.

After E.J. leaves, John notes that his nephew’s too smart for his own good, and remarks how unfortunate it is that he can’t trust E.J. enough to tell him about Paul. Ava asks how Paul’s doing. John believes it’s time he called his contact at the police department and find out what the deal is on the email.
