The Beautiful and Fabulous Hope Williams Brady

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Lexie and Tony are by Stefano’s side, where Lexie confirms that she was there all night monitoring him, noting that he hasn’t moved a muscle. She states that there’s no medical reason why he’s not awake. “Who says he isn’t?” wonders Tony. Lexie believes it’s certainly possible. Tony has a strange feeling that Stefano’s biding his time waiting for the right opportunity to make his move. Lexie doesn’t believe it would be possible, since he’s been immobile for months and it would take weeks of physical therapy. She wants to monitor him a few more days, and if there are no changes they’ll have to discuss sending him back to the facility. She heads out to make some rounds. “Anthony,” says Stefano, which startles Tony. Stefano implores Tony not to tell anyone that he’s awake. “Do this for me, and all will be forgiven,” he says.

John asks E.J. if the D.A. indicated how he found out that Ava left town. E.J. suspects that John knows something, but John says he has his suspicions and admits that he’s glad she got away when she did. E.J. asks if he knows where Ava’s gone, but John claims he doesn’t. He questions if John had genuine feelings for Ava. “I suppose as much as I’m capable, but I do believe that she genuinely cared for me” answers John. E.J. supposes it’s for the best, since John needs to start focusing on his trial. John has every intention of defeating the charges, then will focus on defeating Philip Kiriakis. E.J. asks if John will need his services for that. John says it depends on E.J., since it’s possible that Stefano will want to regain control of his empire and E.J. will have to make a choice. “If I have to choose between you and my father, I’m going to choose me,” affirms E.J.

Back in Stefano’s room, Tony closes the blinds and wonders if Stefano’s been conscious the entire time. Stefano says no and urges Tony to promise him not to tell anyone he’s been awake. Tony insists that he needs medical attention and asks him why he shouldn’t tell. “Because the person who did this to me must not know I’m awake,” insists Stefano. Tony assumes that someone caused him to have a stroke and asks who did this to him. Anna then enters and is in disbelief to see Stefano, asking if Tony was just speaking to him. Tony lies and claims that Lexie thought Stefano hearing voices would bring him back to consciousness. “Why would you want to?” asks Anna. “Cause he’s my father,” replies Tony. Anna refers to Stefano as evil personified and admits she’s glad he’s out of their lives. She displays a cross, suggesting that she might be able to stab him in his black heart if he wakes up. Tony takes her outside the room needing to tell her something. Meanwhile, John leaves a message for Blondie telling her to call him.

E.J. enters Stefano’s room and sits beside his father, who apologizes for sending him away to the facility and hopes one day he’ll be able to forgive him. He talks briefly of Johnny and hopes Stefano will see him soon. E.J. is stunned when Stefano mutters, “Elvis.” E.J. appears spooked and proceeds to go get a nurse, but Stefano implores him not to tell anyone, including Lexie. Stefano insists that he feels rested and invigorated. A stunned E.J. asks how long he’s been conscious. Stefano claims it doesn’t matter, and the important thing is that he’s recovering. E.J. wonders if Stefano heard his and Tony’s previous conversation. Stefano confirms that he heard how terrible E.J. felt and wonders if he would’ve said the same thing if he knew Stefano could hear him. E.J. insists on going to get Lexie. “No-one must know that I am conscious!” asserts Stefano, who asks E.J. to promise to keep this between the two of them for now. E.J. relents and promises not to tell anyone he’s awake.

Meanwhile, Tony reveals to Anna that Stefano’s awake, which Lexie and John overhear. “Father’s awake?” asks Lexie. Tony covers and conveys that Stefano can hear everything they’re saying, since the tests indicate normal brain activity. John proceeds to enter Stefano’s room and Lexie follows. Anna asks Tony why he didn’t tell Lexie and John the truth. “Because father asked me not to,” he replies. Anna hates the situation and can’t help but feel that something horrible’s about to happen now that Stefano’s awake.

John, Tony, and E.J. are back inside Stefano’s room, where John admits to suggesting giving Stefano a dose of anti-psychotic drugs and sending him right back where he came from. Lexie enters to check Stefano’s motor response in order to see how conscious he is. Tony and E.J. try and talk her out of it, but Lexie is determined. Stefano suddenly opens his eyes. “I knew the bastard was awake,” smiles John deviously. Lexie suggests that it could’ve been a muscle spasm and tells John to step back. Lexie states that Stefano’s currently non-responsive and she needs to run more tests. Stefano opens his eyes after everyone steps outside.

Outside the room, Lexie insists that they need to discuss other treatment options for Stefano. She reveals that she consulted with a few specialists, who agreed on electrotherapy. E.J. interrupts and refuses to allow her to shock Stefano back into consciousness, but John is all for it. Tony agrees with E.J. and wonders if there’s anything else they can try. John makes it known that he doesn’t give a damn if Stefano lives or dies. He excuses himself to answer his phone. Lexie implores Tony and E.J. to give some serious thought to Stefano undergoing ETC. E.J. believes it sounds dangerous. Tony suggests trying something else. Lexie suspects that something’s going on with Tony and E.J. and wonders if there’s something they’re not telling her.

Marlena arrives at her penthouse and talks to Sami on the phone. She proceeds to jump in the shower. Meanwhile, a masked intruder opens the door and slowly enters. During this time, Stefano elicits a devilish laugh back in his room.
