One day, a desperate Willow came to him asking if he had a job for her. He reluctantly assigned her the task of breaking into Bo and Hope’s house. In exchange, he promised to give her $100,000 for the task. He lied to a pregnant Willow, then arranged for her to be thrown out of the YWCA.
He soon demanded that Sami have an amnio performed in order to determine who the father of her unborn baby was. Sami managed to forge a false DNA report of her own which stated that EJ wasn’t the father of her baby, which devastated EJ. Celeste would soon urge Sami to kill EJ. Sami lured EJ to a cabin, drugged him, and then lit a match. EJ survived and ended up in a bathroom stall at Chez Rouge.
Lucas and Sami were married, but right after the wedding Sami spilled the truth to Lucas about what happened that fateful night. They flew to New Orleans to Maison Blanche for their honeymoon and were stunned to discover EJ there too. The two newlyweds discovered a letter which could possibly lead to answers as to why the Brady/DiMera feud started so many years ago. Celeste arrived and warned EJ that Stefano needed the stem cells from Sami’s baby in order to survive. She performed a voodoo ritual, which determined that EJ was the father of Sami’s baby. By this time, EJ was in truly in love with Sami.
EJ’s half-brother Tony was released from prison and returned to Salem, where he ridiculed EJ and ordered him to bring Samantha Roberts to him, or else. An ailing Stefano needed the stem cells from Sami’s baby in order to survive. Little did everyone know in Salem at the moment, that Andre was actually posing as Tony and had taken over his life for the past twenty years.
EJ reluctantly complied to “Tony’s” orders. He chloroformed Sami and brought her to the warehouse, but stood up to “Tony” and escaped with Sami. EJ once again saved Sami when the DiMera henchman, Bart, duct taped her in a car and turned the carbon monoxide gas on. When Dr. Rolf poisoned Sami’s hospital food, EJ once again played hero and saved her.
It was soon revealed through the ancient letters found at Maison Blanche that Santo DiMera, Stefano’s father, had a love affair with Colleen Brady, Grandpa Shawn’s older sister. On his deathbed, Santo had asked Stefano to fulfill his wishes and make every last Brady suffer for taking his beloved Colleen away from him. Santo bore a striking resemblance to EJ, and Sami looked exactly like her great-aunt Colleen. After reading the translated letters, it was assumed that Colleen committed suicide after discovering that Santo's wife was still alive. The terms to ending the long withstanding vendetta were that Santo and Colleen’s souls were to be united. In other words, EJ and Sami were to be married.
Sami was determined to end the vendetta and she and EJ found themselves in one perilous situation after another. Lucas saved them from being run down by a forklift, then saved EJ’s life after he was electrocuted in a steam room thanks to Andre. Andre once again imposed his terror when he tied up Sami and EJ in the Brady Pub kitchen and turned the gas on.
During the DiMera vendetta saga, Sami discovered she was having twins. She had an amnio performed in order to determine paternity and was devastated to discover that EJ was the father. EJ, however, was of course elated and was now more determined than ever to keep Sami safe from his family.
Sami was kidnaped once again and taken on a DiMera private jet, where Dr. Rolf planned on taking the stem cells from her babies in order to save Stefano’s life. The surgery was stopped, however, when Bart discovered that the babies were Lucas’s. EJ went on a drunken binge and fantasized about killing Lucas and having Sami all to himself.
Wanting Lucas out of the way, EJ lured his rival to a freezer delivery truck and locked him in, nearly making a popsicle out of Lucas. Sami, discovered where her missing husband was, although EJ was donned the hero for breaking the truck open.
EJ showed a softer side when it came to Stefano and even opted to be the liver donor in order to save his father’s life. He and Sami read translated letters between Santo and Colleen and even shared a kiss. EJ urged Sami to admit she had feelings for him, but she refused.
The terms to ending the vendetta were finally revealed, and a conflicted Sami agreed to marry EJ in order to bring peace to her family and end the violence. Although Lucas and the Bradys managed to talk her out of it at one point, John was soon killed by a hit and run driver. After this horrid tragedy, she made Lucas sign the annulment papers so she could go through with the so-called business transaction and marry EJ. She gave birth to her twins, Johnny and Allie, right after John’s funeral. EJ noted that they looked nothing alike, so in order to satisfy EJ’s suspicions, Sami had yet another DNA test performed. EJ was thrilled to discover that he had fathered little Johnny.
Right after Sami and EJ were pronounced husband and wife, three shots rang out at the church, and EJ was shot. Stefano urged Sami to give his son a reason to live, so she pretended to have real feelings for him. He soon made a speedy recovery and tried to convince Sami to move in with him so the three of them (Johnny, himself, and Sami) could be a real family. Lucas finally admitted to shooting EJ, and EJ was soon able to walk even though he had a bullet lodged in his spine.
EJ has vowed to become a better man if only he can have Sami by his side. He even stood up to Stefano and refused to allow him to see Johnny without supervision, suspecting that Stefano would take Johnny out of the country. EJ played the hero once again when he got himself arrested in order to save Lucas from being killed by Carmine, Stefano’s bodyguard. Soon after the incident, he was appalled to discover that Stefano and Rolf's mysterious "houseguest" was none other than John Black! He reluctantly decided to tell the Bradys about this in order to prove that he was a better man. He has since asked Sami to stand by him in fighting against his father. Will EJ ever be able to win Sami’s love for good? Has he really turned over a new leaf and become a better man? Stay tuned!
