The Houseguest Escapes!

By , About.com Guide

At home, Sami has a flashback to reading Lucas’s good-bye letter before she hears a knock at the door. She answers it to Roman and thanks him for coming, filling him in on Lucas’s letter. She asks her dad to help her find him. Roman informs her that he’s already put out an APB on both Lucas and Kate, who are together. He reveals how a neighbor witnessed Kate packing a suitcase in a car before she left. Sami scoffs how Lucas promised her he wouldn’t leave and they could talk about it. Roman questions where Lucas said he was going. “To see Will, in Switzerland,” replies a bitter Sami, who speculates that with Kate’s resources, they’ll probably get away with fleeing the country. Roman warns her that the cops are going to have to arrest Lucas for attempted murder when they find him, which makes Sami cry. She begs her dad not to arrest Lucas. Roman, however, claims they have no choice, since the bullet in EJ’s back came from the gun which Lucas purchased. “Well that doesn’t mean that Lucas is the one who shot him,” theorizes Sami. Roman affirms that the gun has his prints all over it and Lucas tried to conceal evidence. He rehashes the circumstances behind EJ’s shooting, which includes EJ raping her and forcing her to divorce Lucas. “If that’s not enough to drive a man to desperation, I don’t know what is,” desponds Roman.

Roman intends to find Lucas and bring him in. Sami wishes to come with him, but Roman refuses her request and tells her to stay put, since there’s a good chance Lucas will try and contact her. Sami asks him to call if he finds out anything and urges him not to let Lucas get hurt. Roman hugs his distraught daughter and assures her that everything will be fine, then leaves.

At the DiMera mansion, EJ attempts to unlock the door, but is unsuccessful in his efforts. Rolf answers the doorbell to EJ, who wonders why someone changed the locks. Rolf simply tells him that Stefano’s not home and EJ’s not welcome there, which arouses suspicion in EJ.

EJ enters the back door and has a brief flashback to Stefano assuring him that Johnny will be well taken care of. He searches through the drawers wondering what Stefano’s up to. He is approached by a mysterious figure, who whacks EJ on the back with a club, causing him to pass out on the floor. “A man should never drink before lunch, Elvis,” announces Stefano soon afterwards. He helps his injured son up and claims that his houseguest hit EJ. Stefano berates EJ for not checking with him before entering the house and questions why he’s searching through his desk. Meanwhile, the mysterious house guest sneaks around the corner. EJ questions who the houseguest is, but Stefano only cares about why EJ was searching through his desk. EJ claims he was looking for information and wants to know what Stefano meant when he mentioned that Johnny would be “well taken care of.” Stefano affirms that “Giovanni” is a DiMera and wants him raised according to the family traditions. “And I have made it absolutely clear to you that Johnny is my son, and Samantha and I will raise him as we see fit,” asserts EJ. Stefano warns him that he’s making a grave mistake. Rolf interrupts and reveals that their guest was in the yard, but he was able to usher him inside before he left. Stefano chastises Rolf for not watching him more closely and reminds him of what will happen if he escapes. EJ appears suspicious.

As EJ later listens from the living room, Stefano advises his mysterious houseguest not to go outside and threatens to sedate him if he tries again. He further warns him that if he shows his face, people will hurt him. As Stefano re-enters the living room, EJ questions who the houseguest is, but Stefano claims he needs to keep it a secret for EJ’s protection. Stefano changes the topic back to “Giovanni” and agrees to respect EJ’s wishes in regards to raising the boy. They proceed to have a drink together until Rolf interrupts and reveals that a warrant has been issued for Lucas’s arrest for shooting Elvis and Lucas has fled town. Stefano is appalled and hopes that Sami isn’t stupid enough to take off with his grandson. EJ claims she wouldn’t do that, then excuses himself.

EJ later arrives at Sami’s apartment, who quips how nice it is to see him walking. EJ informs her that Lucas shot him, but Sami begs to differ and speculates that EJ and Stefano could’ve possibly set Lucas up. She refuses to have the discussion with him and intends to find Lucas. EJ offers to help her with this task, but Sami balks at this idea. EJ gives his word that he won’t turn Lucas in to the police. “In exchange for what? You wanna have sex with me again? Is that it?” scoffs Sami. EJ demurs that he would only like Sami to forgive him and would like her to let their son form his own opinion about him. He laments that Johnny’s the only person who has ever loved him unconditionally and wishes for Sami to give him the chance to prove that he’s worthy of Johnny’s love. Sami is suspicious as to where EJ’s good nature is coming from and urges him to make more of an effort to change the way she sees him. EJ claims he’s trying, then asks if Kate and Lucas were together when Lucas left. Sami relays that’s what Roman told her. EJ proceeds to make a call so he can make sure they find Lucas first before the police do.

A frantic Rolf later comes rushing down the stairs and claims he’s looked everywhere, but the houseguest is gone.

At Steve and Kayla’s suite, Stephanie has a flashback to Santa Max asking for a chance with her. She hears a knock at the door and hesitates when she hears Max’s voice. She lets him in and is distant towards him. Max proposes they grab some Lattes and bagels before heading to work, but she attempts to brush him off. She is daunted by a flashback to her rape and begins to cry, then falls into Max’s arms. She breaks away and apologizes for acting like a head case. He mentions how hard Ford’s death was on her and assures her that she didn’t do anything wrong, referring to it as an accident. “That we covered up,” continues Stephanie. “To protect everyone,” affirms Max. He urges her to stop beating herself over it.
