Shawn and Belle decorate the pub in preparation for New Year’s before sharing a smooch. Shawn marvels how proud he was of Belle for getting into Philip’s face at the Christmas party and telling him where to go. Belle chuckles and admits she should’ve done it a long time ago. He declares that his New Year’s resolution is to trust Belle completely, then kisses her. As she hugs Shawn, she has a flashback to getting amorous with Philip and is haunted by her betrayal.
Meanwhile, Philip lurks outside the pub and receives a frantic phone call from Chloe, who fears that the police are after her and about to arrest her. She apologizes for bothering him, but claims she doesn’t have anywhere else to turn to. He makes a crack about the Austrians being he!! on wheels, since they’re supposedly after her for an expired visa. He reluctantly agrees to recommend a lawyer, then coldly hangs up on her before telling her to call if she’s busted. After the phone call, a jealous Philip stares inside the pub at Shawn and Belle’s embrace.
Back inside, Shawn implores Belle to start over with a clean slate with him. Caroline then emerges and marvels what a great job they did with the decorations. She summons Shawn to help her with getting the champagne into the walk-in. Philip then enters and claims he came by to wish her a Happy New Year and to discuss their future. “We don’t have a future Philip, so there’s nothing to talk about,” states Belle. Philip believes she’s confused and offers to wait for her as long as he has to. Belle affirms that the only future she has is with Shawn, then tells him to get out. He touches her face and tries to get close to her, but she brushes him off. “Who was that pretty speech meant to impress? Me or the Bradys?” he questions in regards to Chez Rouge the other night. Belle claims she wasn’t putting on an act, then tells him to leave. He isn’t quite convinced that she truly wants to be with Shawn, but she sets him straight on wanting a future with her husband. He refuses to leave until she admits she made a mistake by marrying Shawn. She attests that she thought about marrying Shawn very carefully before making the decision. He then puts her hand on his chest. “You feel that Belle? It’s beating as fast as mine because that’s where the truth is. It’s in your heart, not your head,” he professes. She admits she’s attracted to him, but insists she loves Shawn. Philip deduces that she chose Shawn because he’s Claire’s father and choosing Philip wouldn’t go over well with her friends and family. She professes to love Shawn and everything about him. “Especially the way his hands feel when he runs them all over my body,” she coyly adds. “You’re not the only man who makes my heart beat fast,” she taunts before she tells him to get out and stay away. Shawn emerges and asks him what the he!! he’s doing there. Belle threatens to get a restraining order on him, while Shawn threatens to throw him out unless he leaves. Philip finally leaves the two alone. Belle apologizes to Shawn, which confuses him since she supposedly didn’t do anything wrong. She gets teary-eyed and nervously takes a deep breath, then rambles about she didn’t have the guts to confess before they got married. He encourages her to just come out and tell him. “I cheated on you. I slept with Philip,” a sobbing Belle confesses.
Outside the pub, Philip is less than thrilled to receive another phone call from Chloe, who reveals that she’s at the police station. He quickly arrives at the cop shop, where Roman leads him to Chloe in the interrogation room. She insists to the inspector that she doesn’t know anything. Roman introduces Philip to Inspector Clockner, who is there to arrest Chloe on behalf of the Vienna police.
Alone with Chloe, Philip implores her to tell the truth about why she’s being arrested. She spills how men broke into their apartment and tied Brady, but left her alone. She further reveals that there was a struggle and Brady cut his hand on glass, leaving blood everywhere, then they abducted Brady. The reason she didn’t call the cops was because she and Brady were having bad fights which brought the cops over, so she feared if she called the cops then she’d be the number one suspect. She cries how she got a warning from his abductor, telling her to back off, otherwise she’d never see him again. Philip coldly assumes she bailed on Brady, but Chloe insists that’s not what happened, so she came to someone who had money, power, and connections, such as Philip. She begs him to help her, promising to do whatever he wants. He wonders what she could possibly have to offer, then realizes she could be very useful to him after all.
Sami arrives at the airport and begs Lucas not to go. He claims he explained everything in the letter, but Sami disagrees. She pleads for five minutes so she can tell him she’s sorry, and that she loves and needs him. An emotional Sami insists they’ll find a way to prove his innocence and refuses to leave unless he agrees to come home with her. Kate interrupts and insists they don’t have time for this, since the truck driver is waiting. Sami is surprised by this revelation, since she figured they were leaving on a plane. She accuses Kate of making up Lucas’s mind for him. Lucas asks his meddling mother to give them a moment. Kate warns them that the police are closing in on him, so he needs to hurry up. Sami offers a heartfelt apology for everything she put him through and for taking him for granted. She insists they can work through the ordeal. He says it’s too late, claiming he’s done something which neither one of them can undo and something he needs to pay for.
