By Gwen Morett, About.com

Bad Dreams

Nicole is dreaming she is running down the stairs of the DiMera mansion after hearing a baby cry. She opens the living room doors and sees E.J. holding a pink blanket wrapped around a baby, or so it appears. He then reveals that there’s no baby. “Nooooo!” she screams. Nicole wakes up horrified at the clinic and feels her empty abdomen.

Nicole arrives for a check-up with Dr. Baker, who asks how she’s feeling and if she scheduled a follow-up with her OB. He begins to stress the importance of a check-up after a miscarriage. “I did not have a miscarriage! Do you understand me?” she declares. Dr. Baker insists that she needs medical attention, but Nicole denies miscarrying a baby. “I gave birth to a beautiful perfect little girl who was born asleep!” she exclaims. Nicole expresses how her miracle baby was taken away from her before her little girl could draw a single breath. She then cries how sorry she is. Dr. Baker apologizes for her loss. Nicole claims she can still feel her baby inside moving around. She needs hope from him in regards to having another baby. He predicts that the chances of her conceiving again are highly unlikely. Nicole brings up how she was told that before and got pregnant. Dr. Baker apologizes for not telling Nicole what she wants to hear. Nicole calls him ignorant and brings up how there’s a thousand different ways to get pregnant and insists that it can happen again. Dr. Baker predicts that even if she was to get pregnant again, the scarring will prevent her from carrying to term. Nicole refuses to believe this and vows to prove him wrong.

DiMera Mansion

E.J. asks Mary the housekeeper if she’s seen Nicole. Mary says no, but reveals that she heard Nicole slip out this morning and it sounded like she was crying. E.J. isn’t happy to find out that it was Brady who brought Nicole home. He intends to go see Dr. Baker to find out what’s going on.

E.J. Meets Dr. Baker

E.J. later arrives to see Dr. Baker and introduces himself. He confirms that Nicole is the mother of his child and recalls how Nicole told him she was treated for a small hemorrhage. He wants to know what Nicole’s restrictions are and what her prognosis is. “The case is complicated,” replies Dr. Baker as he proceeds to look at Nicole’s chart. The doctor sees that E.J. is listed as the baby’s father, which means he can tell E.J. everything. He questions what exactly “his wife” told him. E.J. recalls how Nicole told him that she felt a twinge and she had to get it checked out. Dr. Baker looks through the papers and sees that Nicole’s listed as a single woman. Thus, he can’t share everything with E.J. E.J. insists that it’s his child and he needs to know what’s going on. “And as her doctor, I have to protect her privacy,” responds Dr. Baker. E.J. follows Dr. Baker out of the room asserts that it’s his child and he deserves to know the truth. Dr. Baker states that it’s his duty and obligation to protect the privacy of patients. “And I am a lawyer and I will get an injunction against you!” threatens E.J. Dr. Baker asks why he wouldn’t just talk to Nicole himself.

Going Shopping

Nicole later arrives at a store and the sales lady eagerly proceeds to help her with some clothes. The lady questions how far along Nicole is. “Twenty weeks,” lies Nicole. The lady remarks how incredible Nicole looks and hands her an outfit. She brings Nicole a fake pregnancy tummy. Nicole touches it, amazed at how real it looks. The lady straps it around Nicole, who agrees to take the outfit and the pregnancy belly, saying she doesn’t even need a bag since she intends to wear it home.

Nicole comes home and Mary hopes she is feeling better. Mary shares how she used to cry at the drop of a hat when she was pregnant and offers to fix Nicole something to drink. Nicole says she’s good. After Mary leaves the room, Nicole picks up the baby in a manger figurine and begins to cry.

Kiriakis Mansion

Daniel approaches Kate and asks how she slept. She admits she went out like a light after her party and couldn’t have asked for a better celebration. She assumes that he went back to the hospital to get the rest of her test results. Daniel warns that she needs even more aggressive treatment. He assures her that the primary tumor in her lungs is shrinking, but the scans show that her cancer has metastasized to the lymph nodes, blood stream, and bone marrow. “Stage 4. So, how much time do I have left Doc?” she tearfully questions. Daniel brings up a time when a patient’s cancer went into remission and the person survived for years. Kate believes this is her bad karma coming back to get her. “Don’t you dare blame yourself, and don’t you dare give up,” he urges.

Kate needs to be alone, but Daniel insists that it’s the last thing she needs. A distressed Kate refuses to tolerate him telling her to be brave, strong, and have courage. Daniel holds a crying Kate and refuses to hear her speak of karma. “You are going to pack your things, and we are going to go back to the hospital and continue with treatment,” he implores. Daniel vows to do whatever he can to help her beat this. He wipes her tears and she agrees to comply. She makes him promise that she’ll come back out of the hospital if she goes.

Proposal in the Park

Lucas and Chloe are kissing before he suggests that they act like it’s Christmas. He pulls out a box and teases her about waiting until Christmas for her surprise. She encourages him to spoil it now. He puts the box back in his coat pocket and continues to tease her about waiting, but she playfully tries to get it from him. Chloe opens the box to see a key. Lucas reveals that it’s the key to their dream house and everything’s final. She hugs him. He shares how there’s a fireplace in the bedroom and a hot tub, along with a brick oven stove. “Does that mean I have to learn to cook?” she jokes. “Sure does,” he responds. Lucas then pulls out another upgrade and displays a ring in a box. He professes how wonderful she’s been and how he loves her with all of his heart and soul. “I love you too,” she responds. “Chloe will you marry me?” he proposes as he gets down on one knee.
