An Old Fart Therapist

By , About.com Guide

Lucas and Chloe sit down on the bench and he slips it on her finger, making their engagement official. They share a brief smooch before Kate calls Lucas, who tells his mom that he loves her and he’ll be right there. Lucas gives the grave news to Chloe that Kate’s cancer has spread.

University Hospital

Daniel and Kate arrive and he agrees to give her some privacy. Lucas and Chloe arrive outside Kate’s room, where Lucas accuses Daniel of giving his mother false hope. Daniel says that Kate responded favorably to the treatment. “Then why is it still spreading?” questions Lucas. Daniel can’t answer that. He states that they are going to kill Kate’s immune system and build it from scratch. “She needs a bone marrow transplant,” reveals Daniel.

Daniel later approaches Chloe, who wanted to give Lucas and Kate some time alone. He sees the ring on Chloe’s finger and she confirms that Lucas proposed, but she wanted to hide it from Kate so she wouldn’t have anything else to worry about. Daniel stares at Chloe and agrees to keep her secret. Chloe thanks him.

Inside Kate’s room, she explains to Lucas that she told him about her condition first because she tends to worry about him the most. Lucas tells her not to worry about him. Kate encourages him to accept the outcome no matter what it is. “I need to know, I need to know that you’re going to be alright without me,” she insists. “Don’t say that, please. Don’t talk like that,” cries Lucas. Kate wants him to promise that he’s going to be okay. Lucas hugs his mom as Chloe watches from outside the room.

Brady Pub

Brady arrives and is embraced by Marlena, who is impressed that he ran four miles today. She confirms that John is meeting them today, sharing how Brady’s father made a promise to her last night. Marlena brings up how after the “incident” at the townhouse, she and John came to an agreement. Brady reminds her that it was more than just an incident, someone tried to kill her and John saved her life. Marlena shares how John was in mercenary mode and she wasn’t comfortable having him around. Thus, he was no longer welcome to be a part of her family unless he got professional help. She reveals that John agreed to a therapy session with an old colleague of hers, Kenneth Taylor. “Or maybe not,” counters John as he emerges.

John quips how he’s delighted that she brought his offspring up to speed on his personal business. Marlena says she was just trying to give Brady some hope. John chews her out for not keeping her word and shooting her mouth off about a private issue that was between the two of them. He declares that their deal is off. Marlena clarifies that she wasn’t disclosing medical information, since it’s a family issue and Brady is a member of their family. John sarcastically suggests that she send out a mass email to the rest of his family, including old man Stefano. “I’m a DiMera, and so are you,” reveals John to Brady. Brady is disgusted to learn that he has the DiMera genes. He berates John for not caring enough to tell him. John implores his son to suck it up and be a man. Brady suggests that he try doing the same. “You’re some pathetic robot that’s walking around as if you’re superior to everyone else, mocking everyone else, insulting everyone else,” sneers Brady. Marlena watches as Brady urges John to be a decent guy for a change and put his family first.

After Brady storms out, Marlena reminds John that they had a deal. A grumbling John refuses to hand his money to “an old fart therapist” who tells him to be someone he’s not. Marlena asks him to take just one meeting. John relents and warns her not to go shooting her mouth off to anyone else. “After this it is over,” he declares. Marlena understands and agrees to officially take herself off the case and to leave before he has the meeting. She apologizes for overstepping with Brady. “It’s just that we love you so much. I love you so much, always will,” she professes. John believes the therapy session won’t work. “Once step at a time. That’s all I ask,” she whispers before leaving.

John later tells Pete to keep the change and bumps right into a pretty blonde. He helps her with the files she dropped and sees one with his name on it. “You know Dr. Taylor? I didn’t give him permission to show my files to anyone,” states John. The woman assumes that he’s John Black and she introduces herself as Dr. Charlotte Taylor.

Marlena heads to the park and tries to call Dr. Kenneth Taylor. She gets his voice mail and leaves a message, hoping that he could let her know if John decides to continue with therapy.

Back at the DiMera Mansion

Nicole answers the door to Brady, who asks what she’s doing out of bed. She tries to blow him off, but Brady reveals that he just found out he’s a DiMera, so he’s family. “Woo hoo, let’s celebrate,” quips Nicole. “Where is E.J.?” demands Brady. Nicole says he’s not there, so Brady intends to come in and wait whether she likes it or not. He is stunned to see Nicole wearing a fake pregnancy belly and demands to know what’s going on. Nicole tells him to keep his voice down. Brady is appalled that she’s pretending to be pregnant and warns her that she can’t hide forever. Nicole rehashes how she lost her baby and it’s normal for her to feel sad. Brady agrees that it’s normal, but insists that she’s in denial. Nicole recalls how all she wanted to hear today was that she could conceive another child, then she could possibly have the courage to tell E.J. the truth.

Brady questions what happened today. “Dr. Baker said there was no hope,” desponds Nicole. Brady expresses how sorry he is. Nicole believes that E.J. was only with her because she was pregnant and cries how she can’t lose them both. Brady encourages her to tell E.J., trying to assure her that E.J. won’t leave her because she lost the baby. Nicole claims she’ll eventually tell E.J. when she’s ready and begs him not to say anything to E.J. E.J. arrives home just as Brady and Nicole share an embrace, wanting to know what’s going on.
