The Miracle Worker

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Chelsea suggests changing the topic, noting how Theo’s with them. Max talks to Theo about the tree lighting and recalls how he went there as a kid. He gives Theo a candy cane. Chelsea smiles and commends Max on how good he is with Theo. Max compliments a modest Chelsea on how amazing she is with Theo, then puts his foot in his mouth when he predicts that she’ll make a great mom someday. He quickly apologizes, but she says it’s fine, as it’s not as though she’s the only woman in the world who can’t have kids. Besides, she’s not in that phase of her life anyway and she can always adopt. Max grins how she can always follow in the footsteps of Brad and Angie. “I was thinking more like Shawn and Caroline Brady,” she smiles. Max believes that any kid would be lucky to have her as a mom. Chelsea thinks she should have a guy in her life before she goes out and adopts kids. She jokes how she has millions of them pounding at her door, which elicits a chuckle in Max. “Theo’s my main man,” she says.

Chelsea suggests giving up on the guy thing and getting a dog, since one never has to worry about dogs calling back. She asks if he’s decided what to do with Charlie. Max hates to part with the dog, but the memories get to him. Chelsea smiles when Theo points to the dog and says “Charlie.” Max happily gives the toy dog to Theo.

DiMera Mansion

Stefano is on the phone reenlisting services for an OB/GYN for Nicole. E.J. walks in the living room and demands for his father to hang up the phone. Stefano continues to talk to the doctor, so E.J. hangs up the phone for him. A bewildered Stefano asks what the hell is wrong with him. “I told you to hang up the damn phone,” reiterates E.J. Stefano tosses it on the ground and furiously chastises E.J. for hanging up the phone for him. E.J. refers to him as a control freak and a bully. Stefano insists that he knows what’s good for his grandson. “No you don’t!” yells E.J, who reminds him that Nicole made it perfectly clear she doesn’t want to see his doctor. Stefano warns him that it’s a very risky pregnancy. “I know that, thank you, but it’s not your pregnancy,” states E.J. Stefano chuckles and believes he’s not as witty as he thinks he is. E.J. clarifies that he’s trying to show Stefano what an ass he’s being. “Don’t you want the best for you child, you fool?” roars Stefano. E.J. states that he trusts the mother of his child to do what is best for their baby. He advises Stefano to start treating them with a little bit of respect if he wants any part of his grandchild’s life.

E.J. refuses to play by Stefano’ rules and affirms that he gets to decide what’s best for his family. Stefano grins at E.J.’s assertiveness, then assures him that he trusts E.J. to be the father of his future heir. He offers to try and stay out his affairs. E.J. embraces him.

University Hospital

Nicole comes to the hospital and encounters Daniel. She claims she came to visit Chloe, but Daniel says she’ll be tied up for a while. Nicole offers to come back later. Daniel confronts her about missing her last couple of prenatal appointments. She blames her forgetfulness on being pregnant. Daniel offers to check her out right now. Nicole claims she needs to get Pookie to the groomers and offers to call and reschedule. Daniel notes how edgy and nervous she is and questions what’s wrong. Nicole points out that Daniel’s is Victor’s godson and thinks it’s a conflict of interest, admitting she’d be more comfortable seeing another doctor. Daniel offers to give her some names, but Nicole claims she found one already. He asks if the doctor is affiliated with the hospital, but Nicole says it’s the same doctor who saved her baby’s life, referring to him as a miracle worker. Daniel asks for the doctor’s name so he can give him Nicole’s medical records. Nicole tries to cover her tracks by asking for the records, since she’ll be seeing the doctor later. A suspicious Daniel agrees to get the records for her, to Nicole’s relief.

E.J. arrives at the hospital and asks Daniel if he’s seen Nicole. Daniel confirms that she was there, but she left about a half hour ago. E.J. shares how Stefano has an obstetrician he wants her to see, but Nicole made it very clear that she wants no part of it. Daniel reveals that Nicole decided to go with another doctor, which surprises E.J.

E.J later calls someone asking if Nicole’s there, claiming he’s supposed to be meeting her and is stuck in traffic. He hangs up and quickly leaves.

Bo comes to the hospital and is examined by Daniel, who finds that Bo’s MRI is normal and there’s no sign of a tumor. Bo wonders what he thinks they are dealing with. After asking Bo a couple of questions about work, Daniel concludes that stress is the problem and advises Bo to try and relax more. After Daniel exits the room, Bo has a disturbing vision of a kid brought to the hospital unconscious.

THe Clinic

Nicole pays a visit to Dr. Baker, who doesn’t have time for her. She hands him her medical records from University Hospital and tells him that he’s going to pretend to be her obstetrician. He demands for her to leave, reminding her that he already compromised his ethics by not telling the father she lost the baby. Nicole smugly reminds him that she was going to help him financially and is willing to “sweeten the pot.” Dr. Baker claims he wasn’t thinking when he first agreed to keep the truth from the baby’s father. He admits that the mention of money for his alimony was tempting, but now he wants no part of it. Nicole reminds Dr. Baker that E.J. is a DiMera. Thus, if E.J. finds out the truth now, the doctor will probably lose his medical license, but it’s nothing compared to what will happen when Stefano’s through with him.

The doctor agrees to lie for her under one condition: “$750,000 cash upfront, unmarked bills,” he demands. Nicole chuckles and says she doesn’t have it. “The DiMeras do. It’s pocket change to them,” he confirms. Nicole suggests working out some type of payment plan, but Dr. Baker doesn’t have time for it. She follows him out of the office to find E.J. standing right there. “What the bloody hell are you doing here?” asks a stunned E.J.
