Nicole is ready to go out and asks Mary to tell E.J. that she went to Barron’s. She opens the door and adjusts her fake pregnancy belly, then decides to go upstairs and change clothes. Meanwhile, Mary answers the doorbell to Rafe, who claims he’s from Salem Cable. A confused Mary questions who called. The phone rings and Rafe tries to assure her that they’re all bonded and she can pat him down when he leaves. Mary smiles in admiration at the handsome Rafe, then answers the phone before leaving the room. Rafe heads upstairs just as Nicole is in the bedroom adjusting her fake pregnant belly. He slowly opens the bedroom door and snoops around. Nicole then emerges from her closet and has a puzzled look on her face when she sees Rafe’s back.
Meeting on the Waterfront
Stefano informs E.J. that he got a call from one of their Argentina associates. E.J. thought he stopped doing business with them. Stefano states that he let the associates think that, and now they are anxious to reestablish association with the DiMera men. E.J. notes how Stefano loves playing hard to get. Stefano reveals that Senor Fortin and his son are there in Salem. E.J. realizes that this is the man who smuggles in African diamonds. Stefano notes how he’s done his homework and tonight they will see if E.J. has what it takes to lead the family.
Senor Fortin and his son arrive on the waterfront. Senor Fortin implores Stefano to call him Ramon and introduces his son Juan. Stefano introduces Elvis, then proposes that they get down to business, starting with looking at the product. Ramon displays the diamonds for Stefano, who notes how beautiful they are. Stefano looks at the blood diamonds and agrees that they have a deal. He hands Ramon the case of money. Ramon turns the tables on Stefano as he and Juan whip out their guns demanding their diamonds back.
University Hospital
Lucas enters Kate’s hospital room with a present. Kate extends her hand for Chloe and tells her not to feel badly for not being able to donate because of her previous experience with cancer. Meanwhile, Daniel is on the computer and figures he’s missing something and there’s got to be a way. Kate asks if Lucas has seen Daniel. Lucas says no, so Kate assumes that it’s hard for Dr. Dan to face her after giving her the bad news. Kate opens her present to one of Will’s first art projects with his little hand print, which delights Kate. Lucas hangs it on her IV bags so she can see it. Kate recalls a time to Chloe when she and Lucas didn’t get along, admitting that she could be too domineering at times. She suspects that Lucas is keeping something from her and encourages him to fess up. “I asked Chloe to marry me. She said yes,” reveals Lucas. A less than enthused Kate thought it was something like that. Chloe leaves the room so they can talk.
Lucas and Chloe later re-enter the room, where Kate believes Chloe misconstrued her reaction to the news. Kate admits that she was overwhelmed by the news, but she’s also in a position where she has to look at the bigger picture and she can’t micro manage her sons’ lives. She sees that Chloe makes Lucas happy and thanks her. Lucas predicts that it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Daniel enters and announces that at the moment, he has some qualified good news. He believes he’s found a way that Chloe can still be Kate’s donor. Lucas reminds Daniel that he said it wasn’t safe because of Chloe’s previous experience with cancer. Daniel reveals that he has a mentor who is now a hematologist at Harvard who has been doing some very exciting research. He also thinks he’s found a way that he can treat Chloe’s marrow and blood so it can be transplanted into Kate. Daniel says the process hasn’t been approved yet, but believes he can pull some strings and get the transplant done right there, but it could be considerable risk to Chloe. “It doesn’t matter cause we’re not gonna do it,” mutters Kate. Lucas tries to discuss it with Kate, but she yells at him to go. Chloe affirms that she’s doing this, but Kate implores Daniel to try and talk her out of it. Daniel is only proposing this as a backup plan. Kate urges Chloe to think of Lucas instead of her. “Actually I’m thinking about me,” states Chloe, who tries to assure Kate she’s her safety net. Kate refers to her as a formidable woman. Lucas thanks his mom. Kate requests to talk to Lucas alone.
Lucas sits next to Kate, who wants him to promise not to let Chloe do this. She expresses worry for Chloe and refuses to be responsible for compromising her immune system. Lucas wonders if Kate lied to Chloe by telling her she was going to win, then going behind her back. Kate admits that she let Chloe think she had agreed, but states that can’t let Chloe do it. Lucas insists that Daniel knows what he’s doing, so they should trust him with Chloe’s life.
Outside the room, Daniel suggests that Chloe should talk to her oncologist before they decide anything. Chloe states her intentions to do this if he can’t find another donor.
