At the pub, Chloe playfully snaps pictures of Shawn and Claire. Caroline then snaps a photo of the three of them together. Chloe holds Claire and notes how adorable she is. Shawn remarks how good Chloe is with kids. “Maybe it’s because I love em’ so much,” smiles Chloe. Chloe admits she and Brady wanted to have kids, but surmises that it just wasn’t meant to be. Shawn predicts Chloe will be an excellent mom someday. He asks her to watch “Commander Claire” while he changes out of his uniform. While Chloe and Claire look at pictures, Belle enters. Claire runs to Belle and shows her the pictures. Belle isn’t the least bit pleased to see Chloe in a photo with Shawn and Claire and quips how they look like one big happy family. She encourages Claire to go help Grandma Caroline when Shawn emerges. “Is leaving Claire alone with her supposed to be payback for me leaving her with Philip?” snarks Belle. Shawn explains how he asked Chloe to watch Claire for two minutes while he changed. Chloe suggests she should go, but Shawn doesn’t want her to leave because of Belle. Belle confronts her about why she’s there, insisting that she doesn’t give a d@mn about her missing husband. Chloe affirms that she doesn’t know what happened to Brady, but sitting around at home waiting isn’t going to get her anywhere. Belle doubts Chloe’s innocence and can’t understand why she’s walking around free. “Philip thinks I’m innocent. He’s the reason I’m walking around free,” gloats Chloe. Belle is astounded that Philip’s helping her. Caroline emerges with Claire and invites Belle to have a piece of cake, since they’re celebrating Shawn’s first day at the academy. Belle asks for a piece to go and gets Claire ready to head out. She shoots Shawn and Chloe dirty looks before leaving.
Chloe later apologizes to Shawn for making things worse for him and Belle. Shawn questions what hold Philip has over her and Belle. Chloe has a flashback to begging Philip to help her. Shawn brings her another beer as she explains how she went to Philip because he has the resources and influence. She insists she didn’t have a choice and didn’t want to freak her parents out about the ordeal with Brady. He questions if she had something to do with Brady’s disappearance. “No!” affirms Chloe. He admits that coming back into town, outing Belle at the reunion, and not showing concern for her husband arouses suspicion. She notes how he’s starting to sound like a cop. She recalls how petrified she was of being sent to Vienna, fearing that the people who took Brady would come after her if she went back. Shawn says he believes her. Chloe insists she found out about the whole Philip and Belle thing by accident. “You deserve so much more,” she admits, which elicits a grin from Shawn.
Shawn and Chloe later play darts together. He jokingly notes how lousy she is at it. She laughs how Brady used to tease her about her hand/eye coordination. She theorizes how feelings for someone just don’t vanish just because two people are having problems, which Shawn can relate to. Shawn proposes they play another game with the winner buying next round.
The two go outside after their fun, where he thanks her for being there for him and Claire. Chloe expresses how nice it is having a friend in Salem and how it means everything that he believes her in regards to Brady. Shawn proposes they get together more often and keep each other out of trouble. They shake on it and smile.
At the jail, Sami refuses to be Lucas’s scapegoat. Philip explains that they are trying to show how Lucas was just trying to protect what he loves, which is Sami. Sami wonders if Lucas knows about the “insane” idea or if it’s something Philip and Kate cooked up. Philip urges Sami to help, since Lucas is out of options. Sami refuses to get on the stand and tell everyone it is her fault that Lucas shot EJ. She refers to the whole idea as the stupidest one she’s ever heard. “If you love him then help him! Take the stand and say whatever it takes to save him!” urges Philip. Sami warns him not to emotionally blackmail her. Philip claims he’s just trying to do what’s best for his brother. Sami professes to love Lucas, but refuses to get on the stand and give some twisted confession. She rehashes being on trial before and how lawyers can twist words around and manipulate people. She cries how Lucas didn’t believe in her when she thought she could handle EJ. An incredulous Philip soaks all of this in and assumes that Sami won’t take the stand because she’s mad at Lucas. “I’m not taking the stand because, because I can’t fix this!” she cries. She implores Philip to find another way, then storms out.
Belle and Claire meet up with Philip at the Java Café. A peeved Belle sets Claire down to eat her cake and confronts Philip about helping Chloe fight extradition, which he affirms. She wonders what kind of games he’s playing. She accuses him of telling her that she’s in danger and then helping the number one suspect in her brother’s disappearance. Philip insists that Chloe needed his help and believes that Chloe had nothing to do with Brady’s abduction. Belle mocks how he’s worried about Chloe. Philip wonders if she’s jealous. “Give me a break! Jealous of Chloe?” scoffs Belle. Philip insists there’s nothing going on between him and Chloe, but refuses to turn his back on a friend. He clarifies that Belle’s the only one he’s interested in, but Belle suspects something more. He admits it was a mistake not telling her about Chloe. She whines how she can’t trust him now, then leaves with Claire.
At the DiMera mansion, Stefano warns EJ that the consequences will be dire if he mentions anything about his houseguest to anyone. “When I walk out that door, I am going straight to the police station, and I am telling them exactly what’s going on with your, uh, ‘house guest,’” previews EJ. Stefano tells him that if he walks out the door, he won’t be let back in. EJ walks to the door, opens it, then slams it.
