Stefano admits that no matter what happens, EJ will always be his son. “And you’ll always be my father, but that does not give you the right to control me, as you have so many others,” asserts EJ. Stefano thought for a moment he’d be willing to walk away from his father, and from his money. EJ predicts that someone like him with his education and resume can walk into a good job. Stefano forewarns him that without allies, the business world is ruthless. “Good! I had a great education in ruthlessness!” rehashes EJ. Stefano notes his confidence. EJ reminds Stefano that he now has a son to fight for, and will always choose his son over Stefano. He tells Stefano to keep his money. “I’m taking something that you can never take away from me, something that is rightfully mine and that is my life!” declares EJ. Stefano reminds EJ how he gave him the DiMera name. EJ says he’d be quite happy with the name “Elvis Wells,” insisting that he doesn’t care for the DiMera name or for the color it ties around his neck. EJ declares that he wants freedom. Stefano claims there’s a price to pay for freedom. “Sure. There is also a price to pay for my son’s,” adds EJ, who warns Stefano that he’s quite happy to spill his guts to the Salem P.D. He implores Stefano to back off, and he’ll shut up. Stefano offers to open up his bank account and return his furniture, then tells Elvis not to ever threaten him again.

At the police station, Marlena begs Crystal to tell them what she knows. Crystal insists she’s told them everything. “Have you never been in love? Have you never felt so close to someone that they felt like they were a part of you?” Marlena questions. She pleads for the psychic to give her a shred of hope. Crystal admits she hasn’t seen John, but admits she’s heard him. “Stefano DiMera has him,” reveals Crystal. Marlena gasps as Bo, Roman, and Hope look on in shock. “What the he!! kind of sick game are you playing here? John is dead!” chastises Bo. Marlena believes she’s telling the truth. Hope demands proof. Crystal’s attorney then arrives and implores her not to say another word. He notes the interrogation and demands for Bo to release her. Before Crystal and her attorney walk out, she notes the connection Marlena has for John. Marlena excitedly urges them to go to Stefano’s mansion. The three insist they can’t go busting into the mansion without a warrant and doubt that one will be issued on the word of a psychic. “To he!! with a search warrant! What if John is in there?” exclaims Marlena, who continues to persist that John’s alive. She walks out determined to fight for him.

In Roman’s office, Bo, Hope, and Roman express their doubts about Crystal’s theories. Marlena re-enters and expresses her belief in Crystal. Hope admits she would love nothing more than to believe that John is alive, but speculates that it’s not possible. Marlena urges them to get a search warrant to get them into the mansion, insisting that John’s alive and is trapped there. She assumes that her friends think she’s losing it and begs them for their help. The three look at her like she’s delusional. Nick arrives and warns Marlena that she’s not going to like what he found out in regards to John’s ashes. He informs her that he ran the test twice and concluded that the ashes definitely weren’t John’s. Marlena hugs him in delight and thanks him. Roman is still reluctant to believe that John’s alive, since Marlena first had John buried, then had him dug up and cremated for fear of what Stefano might do. He deduces that Marlena’s not thinking straight, but Marlena continues to implore Roman to get the warrant. Hope starts to believe that it’s possible for John to be alive. A hopeful Marlena insists they can start with the mansion and go from there.

Sami returns home to EJ and asks what happened with Stefano. She is skeptical when EJ demurs that he and Stefano came to an “understanding.” EJ shares the advice which Tony gave him about fighting Stefano. He asks Sami to join with him against his father.

Sami later emerges from the bedroom after attending to Allie. EJ offers to help her with the twins and apologizes for asking her to join forces against his father. Sami rehashes what an unending threat Stefano has been to her family. EJ claims he understands what her family has been through and states his intentions to protect her and Johnny. Sami reminds him that she knows a thing or two about fighting and offers to help him fight Stefano, although she’s not willing to fully trust EJ.

EJ re-enters Sami’s apartment and notes that his furniture is back at his place. She proceeds to take a nap before feeding time and reiterates her offer to fight with him against Stefano. EJ answers the knock on the door to Marlena, Bo, and Hope. He is surprised when Marlena admits that she’s glad he’s there. Sami rushes over to greet her mom. “John is alive,” reveals Marlena. Sami is astonished by this revelation as Marlena insists that Stefano has him at the mansion. She begs EJ to help them, but he claims he can’t. Marlena knows they’re asking EJ to betray his father and relays how Roman refers to him as just like Stefano. She’s seen how much EJ loves his son and believes he wants to change. “Why don’t you prove to Roman and everybody else that you have changed?” she encourages him. She professes how John means the world to her. Sami informs her mother how she and EJ discussed taking down Stefano earlier and how EJ was just at the mansion. “So if he says he doesn’t know anything, I think we should believe him,” suggests Sami. A conflicted EJ confesses that John is not dead, which causes Marlena to gasp with joy.
