Sami implores Roman not to look at her like she’s made a million mistakes and expects to be forgiven, but Lucas makes one mistake which she can’t let go. Roman says it would be nice if Sami at least went to see the father of her children and the man she loves. They are interrupted by a phone call from Belle, who alerts Roman that Marlena rushed off to meet Crystal. Roman tells her to stay put while he goes to find Marlena. Belle insists she can’t just sit there and requests to meet him at the police station. Roman briefs Sami on the situation and exchange hugs before he leaves.

EJ arrives at the police station requesting to see Lucas Roberts, or uh, Horton. Officer Chatsworth asks if he’s family but EJ says it depends on how he defines family. Chatsworth states that if EJ’s not on the list, then he doesn’t get to visit. EJ warns the officer that if he doesn’t get to see Lucas, then he’ll be in serious danger. Chatsworth insists that Lucas is fine and was delivered to a holding cell directly after the bail hearing. EJ yells if someone such as Roman, Bo, or Abe is there who knows what they’re doing. Chatsworth blows him off. EJ then encounters Kate and alerts her that Lucas is in serious trouble, suspecting that Stefano sent someone after him. Kate then asks the officer if she can see Lucas, then questions EJ as to why he’s so concerned for her son’s safety. EJ replies that he cares about Sami and doesn’t want to see her get hurt. “Well if Stefano does something to my son, Sami won’t be the only one gettting hurt. You tell your daddy that,” she warns.

Stefano sits at home sipping a drink before he receives a call. “Is it done?” he asks. “Oh for God’s sake. Enough with this procrastination! Lucas must pay for what he did to my son!” he exclaims. He throws his glass into the fireplace in anger. Rolf requests to discuss their houseguest, but Stefano has other priorities, such as a pest in a jail cell that needs to be squashed.

Stefano later approaches his houseguest, who is smoking a cigar in the living room, and invites him to make himself at home, noting the progress Rolf is making. Rolf later approaches the guest, who is looking out the window. He proceeds to give the guest another injection, but the guest stops him.

Marlena later attempts to start her car, but is unsuccessful. She receives a phone call from Belle, who urges her to pick up the phone. Marlena is too later in answering and is approached by the hooded houseguest and urges him to stop right there, then points a gun towards him.

Carmine introduces himself to a forlorn Lucas in jail. He questions what Lucas is in there for and teases him about too many traffic tickets. Lucas doesn’t want to talk about it. Carmine asks him for a smoke, but it’s not one of Lucas’s habits. Carmine advises him never to start. Lucas politely tells him no offense, but he’s not looking to make new friends right now. An officer then summons Lucas to the visiting room.

Lucas is hoping it’s Sami, but is disappointed to see that it’s Kate instead. She asks Lucas if he’s had any unusual run-ins with anyone, such as threats. Lucas replies that there’s a big guy in his cell who talks his ear off, but that’s about it. Kate urges him to watch his back. She then tries to assure him that Philip’s doing everything he can to get him out of this mess. Lucas makes a wisecrack about the fancy Titan lawyer who can’t even get bail set for him. Kate claims she’s doing her best to defend him and implores him to show a little bit of gratitude. He sarcastically thanks her. Kate mentions Sami’s name and warns him that if he wants to see his family again, he’ll let her help him. Lucas claims he doesn’t need Kate to run interference for him, since everything with her turns into a huge disaster. “I’m your mother. I worry,” she reminds him. He implores her to worry about something else, such as global warming or gas prices. He predicts that she’ll ask him to choose between her Sami, since she does every time. “Well Darling, you just proved my point. Because you chose Sami, and look where you ended up,” she retorts. Lucas asks the officer to take Kate’s name off the visitor’s list, insisting that he doesn’t want anything to do with her. Kate questions if Lucas would stand by and let Will throw his life away if he was the one behind bars. She refuses to stop loving him just because he made a mistake. “I don’t need your love,” he responds. “You need Sami’s. The same woman who won’t return your calls,” she counters. Lucas requests that she leave. She advises him to remember that when the chips are down, she’ll never turn her back on him. “I love you,” she says before she leaves.

Kate later encounters EJ in the station office and notes he’s still there. EJ expresses relief that Lucas is fine and warns her what his family could be capable of. She assumes that he’s only playing the hero to impress Sami.

Carmine later offers Lucas a Playboy magazine, but Lucas declines, claiming he doesn’t read that kind of stuff. Lucas has flashbacks of arguing with Sami at the airport about her marriage to EJ before confessing to shooting EJ, then getting arrested.

Back at Sami’s, she answers her door to Philip, who insists they need to talk about Lucas. She has no interest in discussing Lucas and hopes he rots in jail for the rest of his life. Philip implores Sami to talk to him and try to convince him to cooperate, insisting that she owes it to her children to try and get him out of this mess. Sami fumes how she should go and see Lucas so she can give him a piece her mind. Philip advises Sami to go easy on him, then leaves. “I know exactly how to handle my ex-husband,” she sneers.

Back at the police station, EJ notices a mug shot of Carmine and asks Chatsworth if he’s there. “And why would I tell you?” retorts the officer. EJ responds by punching him. Chatsworth drags EJ off and proceeds to lock him up. He throws EJ into the same jail cell as Lucas and Carmine. “I know you,” EJ confronts Carmine. “What are you gonna do about it, pretty boy?” challenges Carmine.
