Marlena states her intentions to keep on fighting for him, despite his failure to remember who she is. She insists she can’t let him out of there since it’s too dangerous, reminding him that he was drugged and tortured and has scars all over his body. She rehashes how his kidney was removed, since Stefano was quite ill. Marlena begins to tell him not to get upset, but that’s easier said than done for John.

John demands to know what else Stefano carved out of him. She points out that he has scars on his scalp that are fresh and offers to run some tests and do some CAT scans. She then reveals that Stefano and Rolf have been arrested, adding that they refused to cooperate. John vows to find a way to make the two cooperate if she lets him out of his shackles, but she can’t until he’s his old self again. An aggravated John rants about how he doesn’t know how he got his scars and doesn’t know what they did to him. She recalls how this happened to him before and they worked together, which caused him to have a breakthrough. She predicts they can do it again. He jeers how she’s his wife and she wants him back. “Am I really that good in the sack?” he mocks. She accepts his harsh treatment of her as being upset and insists that they need to work and unlock his memories so she can protect him from Rolf and Stefano. He counters that she only wants to protect herself from him and admits that he’d like to rip off someone’s head, starting with Stefano. Marlena displays understanding to his anger, which prompts John to reiterate his question as to why she won’t help him. She reminds him that she kept him from being sedated. “But not from keeping me chained up like a dog,” he adds as he moves his shackles. She predicts he would run if she let him go, which he affirms. He questions how he ended up at Stefano’s if he supposedly died. Marlena doesn’t have an answer for that one and affirms that her hatred for Stefano is legendary, pointing out how John was there when she nearly shot Stefano. Marlena states how obsessed Stefano has always been with her. John is reluctant to trust her and tells her to go straight to hell. “I’ve already been there, when I thought you were dead,” she rehashes. Roman then arrives and asks what’s going on. “Well I just told this pushy bitch to go to hell and she didn’t even blink,” responds John. Roman isn’t surprised by Marlena’s insistence and tells John not to talk to her like that again. Marlena says John’s not himself. John questions if Roman’s hot for her. Roman tells him to shut up. A surly John invites him to undo the cuffs and take him outside to have a crack at him.

Roman takes Marlena outside and questions why she changed Dr. Carrington’s orders. “Because he’s been through enough,” she insists. Roman notes John’s aggressive behavior and suggests that John be sedated. “He is not an animal. He is my husband,” counters Marlena, who insists that John is frightened underneath his angry exterior. She states her intentions to help John remember and bring him home. Roman hopes that when John does remember that’s it’s enough to put Stefano away forever. She’s determined to stick by John’s side no matter what. They re-enter John’s room, where Roman encourages John to let Marlena help him. After Roman leaves, John deduces that Roman’s definitely hot for her, which makes Marlena chuckle. “Are you deliberately trying to provoke me?” she smiles. John isn’t sure he can, since he hears she’s pretty tough. “You have no idea,” she previews.

Bo and Hope visit John and Marlena, where John assumes they came to ask more “stupid questions.” Marlena invites them to step outside. John fumes how he’s not a criminal and tells them all to get out and keep on walking. Outside the room, Marlena defends John’s behavior and chalks it up to him being upset and frustrated. Bo suggests sedation, but Marlena of course refuses and insists he needs help. Hope displays concern for Marlena. Marlena marvels what a miracle it is that John’s alive. Bo then gravely reveals that Belle and Claire were kidnaped. He adds that Belle is in ICU but Claire is still missing. Hope comforts Marlena.

Bo re-enters John’s room and asks him for a favor. “I’m not doing anything for you, unless you do something for me,” responds John. Bo insists that Marlena loves him and just found out that her granddaughter was kidnaped. John offers to pretend that he cares if Bo gets him out of his shackles. A disgusted Bo says he’ll see what he can do, then walks out. He then approaches the ladies and suspects that Stefano’s not involved with the kidnaping. Hope hugs Marlena before she and Bo go to check in with Roman. Marlena re-enters John’s room and needs him to do a favor, no questions asked if he wants out of there. “I want you to come with me to see our daughter,” she requests.

Shawn and Chloe later arrive at the pub and meet up with Roman, Bo, and Hope. Shawn alerts them about the tattoo he noticed on Rob’s arm, which was a symbol of ropes intertwined into a circle. Roman then displays a picture of the symbol and reveals that Marlena found it in John’s clothing the night he was run down. Roman states that the medallion is a symbol of a Celtic Roman warrior. Shawn asks to borrow the picture so he can do some research online. Roman shares his theory that there’s a connection between John’s accident and the guy who took Claire.
