In John’s hospital room, he looks at various pictures on a computer screen before pausing. Dr. Carrington implores him to continue. “You’re as boring as this damn game,” mutters John. John offers to continue if the doctor’s pretty little assistant helps him out. He briefly flirts with Dr. Carrington’s assistant and invites her to push his button. Dr. Carrington simply tells him to continue. John suggests a team test with him and the assistant against the boring doctor. Dr. Carrington reveals the assistant’s name to be Carla and tells her she’s become a distraction to John. John sarcastically suggests she get the doctor from behind while he sits there handcuffed to the rails. After Carla exits the room, Sami asks how John’s doing. She tells Sami to ask the doctor when he’s finished. Back inside, John asks “Bob” (Dr. Carrington) what his test reveals. Dr. Carrington once again tells him to continue.

Carla approaches “Mrs. DiMera” and escorts her into John’s room, advising her not to get too close. Sami slowly approaches John and reveals that she’s going away and wants to say good-bye. “Wait. I think I do remember you,” he says. He encourages her to come a little closer and claims he recognizes her face. She admits she was a pain in the butt for years. He doesn’t believe it, noting what a smile she has. She gets teary-eyed and wishes to give him a hug. He encourages her to go for it, then attempts to choke a terrified Sami.

Sami is later seen laying on John’s bed. Carla walks in and screams. It turns out that John was daydreaming and allows Sami to give him a hug. She refers to him as a second dad and apologizes for being such a jerk to him in the past. He claims it doesn’t matter anymore, then wishes he could hug her back. Sami assures her that he’ll be able to get out of there soon and predicts that the next time she sees him, he’ll remember everything. John then flashes back to Stefano showing him a picture of a woman, who is his mission. “Ah, mission. Mission!” chants John as he struggles with his restraints. John later remembers Sami’s voice and sits up in his bed focusing on Stefano’s mission.

An aggravated Roman is in his office and demands for his recipient on the phone to do whatever they have to do in order to bring Claire home. He is soon visited by Marlena, who needs to see one of the prisoners. Roman quickly deduces that she means Stefano and asks why she brought the bag. Marlena demurs that she’s a doctor and has some meds just in case Stefano slips into some kind of shock. “So you think Stefano might get bit by a bee while he’s sitting in jail. Is that it?” jests Roman. Marlena implies that she has something in her bag which might make him more cooperative. Roman gives her permission and asks her to try to do it by the book. After Roman walks out, Marlena phones Dr. Carrington and asks him if he’s finished his testing. Dr. Carrington reveals that John shows no emotions whatsoever. Marlena counters that he shows anger, which is clearly an emotion. The doctor agrees, but it doesn’t match his profile according to the test. Marlena says she’s working on finding out what’s been done to John. He implores her to elaborate. She pretends that she can’t hear him and hangs up on him. Roman then announces that her visit is all set and shows her the door.

Stefano is escorted into the visitors’ room, where Roman reveals that they fired two guards today. “How much are you paying them to bring in your gourmet meals, cell phone, among other things?” queries Roman. Stefano sarcastically suggests the guards could’ve done it out of the goodness of their hearts. Roman then leaves Marlena with Stefano, who claims he’s delighted to see her. “You won’t be,” she warns. Roman watches through the window as Marlena previews that she’s going to give Stefano sodium pentathol. She relays how John told her about his mission, but at the mention of Stefano’s name he began to scream. Stefano applauds John for this. Abe joins Roman and watches the show. Stefano declares that he’s immune to truth agents. Abe claims that Marlena can’t give Stefano truth serum, but Roman disagrees since Claire’s missing.

After she administers the truth serum, Stefano drifts off and appears much more relaxed. Marlena asks him what his name is. “Stefano DiMera,” he answers. She questions if he knows John Black, which he confirms. He admits he doesn’t like John Black. Roman notes to Abe that Marlena got Stefano to admit that he doesn’t like John, which is more that what they got. She questions what John’s Black mission was. “Seek, destroy, revenge,” he mumbles. “And who was he meant to destroy?” asks Marlena. “He will not stop until he finds his target and eliminates them,” reveals a woozy Stefano, who then grumbles how he has a headache. She pours him coffee and gives him what appears to be aspirin. Abe and Roman then enter before Stefano's escorted back to solitary. He declares that they’ve used up most of Stefano’s 72 hours and warns them that if they don’t charge him, then he’ll walk. Abe predicts that no matter what bail is set for Stefano, he’ll be sitting in the back of his limo laughing at them.

Stefano later sleeps in his jail cell. Marlena hands the attending officer a pass requesting to see Stefano. The officer attempts to wake him up and notes that he’s really out. Marlena requests a couple minutes alone with him. “Sleeping well?” she taunts. She reveals that she gave him sleeping pills rather than aspirin. “You horrible, evil, arrogant, pompous ass, for what you did to my husband, to me, the people that I love. We will just call it all even after this,” she derides.

Shawn and Chloe later arrive at the cop shop, where Shawn warns a bloody Rob that he’d better talk. Roman emerges and asks who the guy is. Shawn reveals that he’s one of the guys who took Claire. Roman notes Rob's bloody face. Chloe steps in and states that Rob had a gun and threatened to shoot Shawn. Rob fumes when Roman tells Shawn to go home. Roman demands for him to tell them where Claire is and warns him that his strong silent demeanor won’t do him much good there.
