Chez Rouge
Melanie struts over to Philip and coyly asks if he lost his dance partner. Philip assumes that she had something to do with the patron spilling his drink on Stephanie. Meanwhile, Lucas is unable to locate Chloe and tells Kate that he’s called her hundreds of times, but her phone goes straight to voice mail. Kate is wondering where Daniel is as well.
Melanie wishes Philip a Happy New Year just as Steph returns from the bathroom. She inches a bit closer to him but Steph interrupts. Steph notices the tension between the two and asks if she missed something. “A matter of fact you did,” replies Philip.
Maggie approaches Kate and Lucas and asks them where Chloe and Daniel are, but Lucas isn’t too sure. Maggie refers to it as odd and suggests that maybe Daniel was summoned into emergency surgery. Kate proceeds to call the hospital. Lucas wonders how he can find Chloe.
Nearby, Melanie claims they just got wrapped up in the spirit of the New Year. Steph questions if she missed a kiss between her and Philip. Melanie and Philip stare at each other before he plants a passionate kiss on Stephanie and wishes her a Happy New Year. Steph smiles at a jealous Melanie and wishes her a Happy New Year. Melanie makes catty comparisons about Brad and Angelina, remarking how interesting it should be with the three of them working together, then walks off.
On the Pier
Chloe has just sprained her ankle and is unable to get up and walk on it, so Daniel picks her up. They watch the fireworks together and come close to sharing a kiss, but are interrupted by Daniel’s cell phone. Daniel puts Chloe down and proceeds to call Dr. Whitaker to see if he can get them an exam room. He notices that Kate just called, probably wondering what happened to him. Chloe is sure Lucas is worried out of his mind. She suggests they just go. Daniel agrees that they can call their respective partners and explain everything on the way to the hospital. “Not everything,” implies Chloe.
Philip and Stephanie show up on the pier, where he assumes that Melanie got to her. Steph wonders why Philip seems to fall for her little games and asks why he didn’t just walk away from her when she kissed him. Philip clarifies that Melanie didn’t kiss him, she only whispered in his ear. Steph asks him if he kissed her because he wanted to or because he was trying to prove a point to Melanie. They discuss their kiss at Chez Rouge and he admits that he initially wanted to make a point to Melanie. “But once we got into that kiss, I forgot about all that. I forgot about everything and everyone except you,” he whispers. Steph admits that the kiss wasn’t the same for her. He tries to assure her that the kiss was the highlight of his year. Steph isn’t completely buying it, but suggests that he kiss her again. He is happy to oblige and they make out on the pier.
At the hospital
Kate and Lucas arrive, where Daniel informs them that Chloe has a sprain on her ankle, but she should be able to walk. Kate expresses how worried sick she was about Daniel and refers to him as a life saver over and over again. Lucas thanks Daniel for bringing Chloe to the hospital, remarking how his debt to the doctor keeps expanding. Kate is thankful Daniel was on the pier and embraces him. Lucas walks in Chloe’s room as Kate asks Daniel to give her a lift home so they can get in a some alone time. Daniel apologizes for not being at Chez Rouge with her to ring in the New Year. She is just grateful he was there for Chloe. Daniel flashes back to almost kissing Chloe on the pier, and Chloe appears to be having the same flashback. Lucas is relieved that her injury wasn’t serious. She jokes that he’s marrying a klutz. “No, I’m marrying an angel,” he smiles. Chloe is ready to get out of there and apologizes for ruining his New Year’s. He says the celebration isn’t over yet.
Private Celebrations
Kate and Daniel arrive at the Kiriakis mansion, where Kate is ready to have their own celebration with champagne. Daniel appears distracted and Kate asks if there’s a problem. She makes a toast to Daniel for never giving up on her, expressing how she owes him everything. A modest Daniel insists that he couldn’t have helped her if she didn’t want to help herself, referring to her as tenacious. After they toast, she believes it would feel awkward if she asked him to stay, admitting that she felt desire for him before she was ill. He assures her that she’ll get her feelings back. They embrace.
Lucas brings Chloe back to Chez Rouge and sits her at a table so they can have a private celebration of their own. He reveals that Maggie agreed to leave the place open for the two of them. He hugs her and intends on making their first New Year’s Eve together memorable. Chloe feels bad for not being there for the big countdown or the kiss. He agrees to fix that and counts down before kissing her.
Melanie later returns to Titan feeling sorry for herself.
Safe House
The fireworks are going off at midnight and Rafe tells Sami to get away from the window. She complains about not having any fun on New Year’s Eve. He offers her non-alcoholic cider, but she tosses the glass and breaks it. As he cleans up the broken glass, Sami apologizes for her actions. He blames himself and says he should’ve gone with the plastic. She thanks him for being so understanding. “As long as I’m not on the receiving end it’s all good,” he says. She offers to pay for the glass and he jokes about writing her up an invoice. She assumes that it’s not easy for him being stuck there on New Year’s Eve cleaning up broken glass, since there are people he’d rather be with. “It is what it is,” he grins.
