Back inside, Jeremy bores Kayla with his pilot talk. An uncomfortable Kayla awaits for Steve as Jeremy smooches with Steph. Steve looks over Jeremy’s background report as Bo states that the Horton thrill seeker is nothing but trouble. Kayla proceeds to go outside to check on Steve. Bo then breaks the news about Roman, who is in critical condition. Bo and Kayla make a beeline to the hospital while Steve glares at Jeremy. Steve marches over to the table and shares the bad news about Roman. He then confronts Jeremy with his felony convictions and the time he spent in jail.

Lucas tends to Sami back home in the apartment. EJ suggests taking her to the hospital, but Lucas fumes that she’s safer there than anywhere else as long as EJ doesn’t open any more briefcases. A shaken Sami says she wants her mom. Lucas assures her that Marlena’s on her way and thus has brought her up to speed on the recent events. Sami then recalls EJ opening the briefcase and gas coming out. Lucas surmises that it was a plot so Stefano’s goons could take her and raid the babies’ stem cells. “Thank God he didn’t,” quivers Sami. EJ then queries why Stefano would take Sami, then dump her in a motel room without taking the stem cells. An unsettled Sami wishes her dad would just call so they could just explain what’s going on. She insists that it doesn’t make sense as to why Stefano didn’t cut her open. Lucas admits he’s glad that “rat bastard” is running out of time. EJ speculates that maybe his father had a change of heart. Lucas of course doesn’t buy this theory. “Oh that’s a real neat trick. First you’ve gotta HAVE a heart,” counters Lucas. EJ claims his father is a compassionate man who cares a lot about family and theorizes that Stefano saw the babies as a way to end al l the hostilities between the Bradys and the DiMeras. “I think you inhaled more gas than we ever did,” remarks Lucas, who insists that Stefano is pure evil with no shades of gray.

Nick then interrupts them with a knock on the door, who insists he needs to talk to Lucas and Sami. Lucas and Sami express how worried they were about him before, while EJ thanks him for saving Sami’s life and those of the babies. Nick informs them that he remembers why he was there before. Unwelcome visitor Kate then barges in and assumes that Sami ran off with EJ. Sami corrects her and affirms that she was kidnaped by Stefano. An annoyed Lucas informs his meddling mom that the DiMeras let Sami go and thus he’d appreciate it if Kate showed a little sympathy. Lucas and Sami appear suspicious when Kate tries to dissuade Nick from saying anything regarding the amnio. Lucas demands to know what his mother’s problem is. Kate insists that whatever Nick has to say he can say later since Sami’s exhausted from her ordeal. Sami insists on hearing whatever Nick has to say now. “I hope you’re not making a mistake,” she warns Nick. Sami demands to know what Kate knows. Nick assures Sami that hers and Lucas’s kids are fine. “The father of these babies, both of them, is Lucas,” reveals Nick. Kate is livid, while Sami and Lucas are overjoyed. EJ is outraged and Kate expresses her theory that reports can be falsified. “And why would I do that Mrs. Roberts?” asks Nick. Kate suggests that maybe Nick could be completely incompetent. Nick affirms he’s a fully certified accredited lab technician, who is certain that the lab results are bonafide. He claims that he screwed up the first test, but leaves out the minor detail that Kate blackmailed him. EJ wonders who put Nick up to this. Kate warns Nick that his job could be on the line. Sami, meanwhile, queries how Nick messed up the first set of results. Nick looks right at a guilty Kate as he claims he was under a lot of pressure to get the results in fast, so he ordered another test and had someone else run the results. He displays the results to EJ. Sami snatches the report as she and Lucas marvel at the news. Lucas then chastises Nick for his so-called carelessness. “Wait a second, smart guys like you don’t make mistakes, unless you’re under a lot of pressure from someone,” muses Sami as all eyes glare at Kate. Sami states she is willing to bet her life that it wasn’t Nick’s idea to change the test results to show that EJ was the father. Nick lies that no one pressures him and that it was his mistake. Nick declares full responsibility for the mix-up, even if it means losing his job. Kate offers to talk to Nick’s supervisor, but Nick tells her to let him deal with the fallout. Nick expresses remorse before he proceeds to leave. Sami implores him to look her in the eye and tell her that Kate or EJ had nothing to do with the first falsified test results. Nick still keeps mum about Kate’s blackmail before leaving. Kate then proceeds to go check on Nick. “You’re a real piece of work there, Kate!” exclaims a disgusted Sami.

Sami then blasts EJ as she suspects he’s in on the scheme as well. Lucas then gets a call from Marlena, who reveals the bad news that Roman’s been stabbed. He relays the message to Sami. She frantically proceeds to go to the hospital and kicks EJ to the curb. “I have nothing that you want, and there is no reason for you to be in my life!” she declares. “You are totally irrelevant!” she seethes before storming into the bedroom. Lucas displays his smugness at this, then opens the door and declares that EJ’s out of their lives for good. A frantic Sami then rushes out of the bedroom and cries that she just wants to be happy about the recent revelation but can’t rejoice in the news since she so worried about her dad. Lucas comforts his distraught wife as a dejected EJ looks on.
