Mr. Nice Guy

By Gwen Morett, About.com

At the police station, Morgan asks Abe if Bo’s around. Abe says he’s not there right now, but has the money for her which Paul left. Morgan doesn’t want it, since she doesn’t feel right taking it. She asks him to hold onto it until her father gets back.

Marlena is summoned down to the station by Roman to discuss Sami. She relays how she heard that Lucas may be going back to jail. Roman reveals that E.J. is threatening to sue for custody of Johnny. Marlena is surprised, since she thought they were working it all out. Roman informs Marlena that Nicole and E.J. were generating their own electricity the night the power went out. Marlena scoffs when she realizes that E.J. and Nicole did the deed in the elevator. She theorizes that some good could come of this. If Sami realizes that E.J. is moving on, then she could possibly spend more time and energy focusing on Lucas. Roman drops the bomb on her about Lucas and Chloe. Marlena’s heart sinks and surmises that Sami must be devastated. “Roman, this may be my fault,” laments Marlena, who rehashes how Sami spent years seeing her torn apart by two men, and now she’s doing the same thing. They are interrupted by Abe, who requests to see Roman. Marlena heads out to fetch some coffee.

Abe tells Roman how Morgan wanted them to hold onto the money which Paul left her until they find him. They agree that the longer the search for Paul drags on, the lesser of a chance they have of solving the case.

Abe later informs Marlena that Roman’s on the phone and shouldn’t be long. She asks about Theo. Abe replies that they’re taking things one day at a time. Marlena informs him of a support group at the hospital for parents of autistic children. They briefly discuss Lexie before Roman reappears and takes Marlena back into his office. He reveals that he just got off the phone with the warden at Statesville. Marlena can’t imagine why Lucas would risk everything for a few hours of freedom. Roman agrees that it was a stupid thing to do. Marlena surmises that Sami would like to see Lucas behind bars for a very long time after the incident with Chloe. Roman believes that despite the whole mess, Sami is still hoping to reconcile with Lucas. Marlena wonders about E.J and his interest in him. Roman thinks Sami should start over and find some guy and get in a less complicated situation. Marlena affirms that Sami’s not exactly innocent in the situation, since she did sleep with E.J. Roman can’t understand that, since he assumes that Lucas forgave her then turned around and slept with Chloe. Marlena claims that Lucas made a mistake just like Sami did. She suggests finding a way to help Lucas. “You have got to be kidding me,” responds an incredulous Roman, who asserts that Lucas had three chances and blew every one of them. Marlena tries to reason with him, asking why Sami and her family should suffer because of Lucas’s actions. Roman sees her point and offers to see what he can do.

E.J. encounters Trent outside the pub and mistakenly calls him “Brent.” He reintroduces himself and asks if he’s a friend of Nicole’s. Trent claims they are still very close. Nicole appears and they proceed to head inside for their “lunch date.” E.J. takes Nicole aside and asks what’s going on. She claims she’s just grabbing a bite to eat with an old friend. “Like hell you are,” responds E.J., who admits that he doesn’t like the way Trent treats her. Nicole remarks how sweet it is, but claims she can take care of herself. “I think the lady’s finished talking with you,” interrupts Trent. E.J. then gives Nicole a quick kiss and a hug before leaving, telling her to call if she needs him. He warns Trent that he’ll be keeping an eye on him. Trent tells Nicole that he doesn’t trust E.J. “I think the feeling’s mutual,” states Nicole. Trent insists that he needs Nicole to do a little detective work for him.

Max is still traveling on the train and sends a text message to Steph, hoping she’s not mad and assuring her that he loves her.

At the pub, Steph reads Max’s text message when Caroline asks if she’s seen Max. Steph reveals that he’s in France. Caroline is astonished, since Max never said a word to her. Steph hands her a letter which should help explain things. Caroline opens the letter from Max which explains how much he wants to find his sister. He asks for her support and assures her that he’ll always be her son. She is moved by his letter and begins to cry. Chelsea arrives and asks what’s wrong with Grandma. Steph fills her in on Max leaving town and going off to find his sister. She admits she’s not mad that Max left, she just wishes he wouldn’t have lied to her. Chelsea asks if Max is going to be in Europe for long. “It depends on how long it takes for us to find his sister,” replies Steph, who reveals that her plane leaves this afternoon. Chelsea refers to this as crazy and wonders if Max even knows she’s coming. Steph confirms that he doesn’t and goes to see if Grandma’s okay. Chelsea calls Morgan and insists that she needs her help.

Steph apologizes to Caroline, who is hurt but understands. She proceeds to go to the hospital to see how Victor’s doing. They exchange hugs and “I love yous.” Caroline comes outside and encounters Trent, Nicole, and E.J. “This is all your fault!” she chastises as she points her finger at Trent. After Caroline storms off, E.J. deduces that she’s not Trent’s number one fan.

Back inside the pub, Chelsea and Morgan prepare a bon voyage gift bag for Chelsea, which includes a device for her hair dryer, a phone card, and an electric French translator. Steph remarks how it will come in handy, especially since she already speaks French. Chelsea hugs her and says she’ll miss her.

Nicole approaches Morgan, Steph, and Chelsea and asks them if Max is around, claiming how she had him order some wine from a really special distributor. Steph informs him that Max will be gone for a while. The ladies remark how weird Nicole’s questioning was.
