At the hospital, a frustrated Daniel is unable to come up with a diagnosis for Kate. Chelsea approaches him and wonders if he knows what’s wrong with Kate yet. Daniel replies that he has no diagnosis, even after running all the standard tests. Chelsea thought he was supposed to a be this brilliant diagnostician. Daniel bites her head off and apologizes for disillusioning her. Chelsea approaches him and finds it hard to believe that “the great Daniel Jonas” is apologizing to her. A nurse then brings the latest test results for Kate. Chelsea urges him to go and find out what’s wrong with her grandma.
At the Brady Pub, Max brings sodas over to Steph and apologizes for not acting like himself lately. She apologizes for snooping through his room. Max assures her that he knows she did it because she was worried about him. She surmises that Nick’s recognition is bothering him, but Max affirms that Nick’s his friend and he wouldn’t begrudge him like that. Steph states that Max is ten times smarter than Nick is, yet Max isn’t getting any recognition for it. Max admits that the whole thing has more to do with Dean Robbins than Nick, which Stephanie doesn’t understand. In walks Nick with Dean Robbins.
Nick and the dean later sit at the bar, where Max offers them drinks on the house. Nick tries talking to Max, but Max interrupts and claims he has things in the back to do. Dean Robbins quips what a charming young man Max is. Nick defends Max and states that he’s been under a lot of stress lately and his dad passed away. Steph approaches them and asks where Max went. Nick says he’s in the back and requests to speak to her. He asks what’s up with Max and implores her to spill if she knows anything. Steph reveals that Max and the dean got into a fight, which stuns Nick. In walks a distressed Chelsea, who reveals that Kate has been having some bad stomach pains. Steph encourages her to have a seat and offers to get her something. Nick apologizes and says he’ll call later to see how Kate's doing. Nick then asks the dean if he and Max got into an argument. The dean confirms this and surmises that Max isn’t a fan of his theories.
Steph and Chelsea sit together, where Steph reveals that Max has a secret. Max brings Chelsea’s muffin over to the table. Chelsea assures Steph that they’ll continue their conversation later, then heads back to the hospital. Nick excuses himself from the dean and insists to Max that they need to talk about the dean’s book. He demands to know what Max’s deal is and refuses to pretend that everything’s okay. A defensive Max wonders if he’s not entitled to his own opinion. Nick reminds Max that the dean is a genius. “According to who? Him? I’m sure he’s convinced he’s Albert Einstein. I’ll bet he’s waiting on his Nobel Prize,” quips Max, who claims he picks up things along the way. Nick realizes that Max knows a lot more about physics than he lets on and wonders how it’s possible. Steph watches them argue from afar. Max claims that all he did was fiddle with a few equations and double checked stuff on his calculator. Nick realizes that Max actually altered his work. “Thank God it’s finally out in the open,” says Steph. Nick is bewildered that Steph knew about it and asks why they didn’t tell him about it from the beginning. Max attests that Nick is his friend and all he wanted was for Nick to get the approval for the prototype. Nick accuses him of lying and doing this behind his back. A betrayed Nick announces to Dean Robbins that he’s giving all the grant money back, since Max deserves the credit.
Back at the hospital, Daniel tells Kate that they need to run some more tests and make sure they cover all the bases, assuring her that they’ll do everything they can to find out what’s wrong with her. She asks if Chelsea’s there. Daniel believes he scared her off, but states that his main concern right now is for Kate. He admits that he cares for Chelsea probably more than he should, rehashing how his whole entire life has been spent being “Mr. Responsible." However, at the end of the day, he just wants to be left alone. He refers to Chelsea as just a girl who has walked into his life, claiming that he can’t be who he wants to be with her. Chelsea then arrives and assumes they’ve been talking about her. She presents Kate with a magazine and muffin, then declares that she doesn’t need either one of them making decisions for her. Kate is summoned away for more tests. Daniel tells Chelsea that now isn’t a good time to lay into him. Chelsea whines how it will never be a good time, which Daniel confirms. “Don’t worry. No matter how I feel I get that you’re not in love with me,” she moans before walking off. Daniel admits to himself that he is.
Lucas hides on the pier and spots Chloe crying. He phones Chloe and apologizes for saying anything to hurt her earlier. She admits that it means a lot to her. “So stop crying, okay?” he encourages. Chloe wonders how he knew she was crying. He claims he didn’t know she was crying, but just knew she was having problems with Philip. He apologizes for being rude and insensitive and reveals that he and Sami aren’t really getting along right now. Chloe suggests that they form an alliance, since they’re in the same boat. Lucas likes the idea and tells her to consider him a full-fledged member of the “Lucas and Chloe alliance.”
Lucas proceeds to head back to the mansion before someone realizes he was gone. He runs right into Paul. “Do I know you?” questions Paul. A nervous Lucas says no and takes off.
Philip and Morgan continue having drinks at the Kiriakis mansion as Morgan is unsure about accepting Philip’s dinner invitation. He coaxes her to accept, as long as they don’t discuss work. She admits that she’d like to, but doubts Chloe would approve. Philip reveals that he asked Chloe for some space. “So you guys are involved,” assumes Morgan. He states that they have a history and cares for her, but as far as a future is concerned, he honestly doesn’t know.
