An unsettled Paul meets Philip on the pier and informs him that John had a couple of goons pick him up and stick a gun in his face. I heard, responds Philip. Paul chastises Philip for not helping him out. Philip tells him to keep his voice down. No! I am not going to keep my voice down! yells Paul. A desperate Paul pleads for Phils help, otherwise hes a dead man. Philip confronts him about setting the fire. Paul confesses that he made a mistake and states that theyre in a mess. Philip slaps him and claims its not his mess. He admits to setting John up, predicting that John wouldve gone to jail and it wouldve been the end of the war. A furious Philip shoves Paul around and excoriates him for burning Johns cargo. Paul bellows how hes sick of John telling him what to do every single day. Theyre gonna kill me Philip, fears Paul. Philip warns Paul that he made a mistake, and now he has to suffer the consequences on his own. A desperate Paul gets on his hands and knees and begs Philip not to cut him loose. Philip advises Paul to leave town before he becomes even more of a liability.
Morgan later meets Paul on the pier and asks him what happened. Paul reveals that hes leaving town because its not safe for him there anymore. A heartbroken Morgan embraces her father.
Philip later encounters a distraught Morgan on the pier and asks if shes okay. Morgan cries that her fathers leaving town because hes afraid his lifes in danger. Philip embraces her and tells her that she shouldnt cry for Paul. Hes my father! exclaims Morgan as she breaks away. Phil apologizes. Morgan cries that she may not always approve of what Paul has done in his private life, but he loves her and she loves him. Hes never turned his back on me! she asserts. Philip hugs her as she continues to sob. She asks him to make sure nothing happens to Paul. I cant make any promises, he says. Morgan asks if Philip will try, since she believes he has a really good heart and he cares about her. She cries that hes the only person she trusts right now, then kisses him.
A distracted John pours Ava a Scotch at the DiMera mansion. He admits he doesnt like getting his hands dirty. I dont either, agrees Ava. John wonders why she helped him. Ava affirms that Johns her friend and he needed protecting. They drink to that. E.J. then enters the mansion yelling for Lucas. John asks for a little privacy. E.J. rants how hes having a bad day and shares how Sami has asked him to leave and how Lucas gave Sami an ultimatum. He believes he has more of a right to stay at the mansion than either Sami or Lucas, since Johns his uncle. No question, responds John. E.J. complains how Sami does nothing but completely infuriate him, and if she wasnt the mother of his child he would ring her neck. Yeah, I know exactly how you feel, says Lucas as he emerges. E.J. insists that Lucas doesnt have a clue as to how he feels and asserts that if anyones moving out of the house, its Lucas. He reminds Lucas that John is his uncle, and hes not about to kick him out of the house just to make Lucas more comfortable. John backs him up on this and allows E.J. to stay if he wants to. Nicole arrives and asks to talk to Ava somewhere else. Ava agrees to call John later. John the referee warns Lucas and E.J. to keep their voices down and not to get physical.
After John leaves the room, E.J. asks Lucas to remind him why he got him released from prison in the first place. Lucas attempts to have a civil conversation, but E.J. accuses him of being snide. E.J. assumes that Lucas isnt in love with Sami anymore. Lets just say shes done some things that I cant get over, implies Lucas. E.J. assumes that it has to do with Sami sleeping with him. Lucas recounts his previous conversation with Sami, in which she basically admitted that shes confused about her feelings for E.J. E.J. wonders why Sami wants him to move out if she has all these feelings for him. Lucas suggests he figure it out for himself, referring to women as mysterious creatures. He informs his nemesis that Sami was upstairs packing up E.Js belongings. E.J. affirms that hes not going anywhere.
Marlena meets Hope at the pub, where Hope informs her that Johns shipment was set on fire. Marlena says she knows and has left the mansion. Hope apologizes and fills her in on Johns recent encounter with her and Bo at the pub. She surmises that for the first time in a long time he might be feeling something, like he was more emotionally accessible. She suggests that maybe now is a good time to get through to him. Marlena states that John doesnt want her in his life. Hope insists that John is lost and needs her more than ever, and feels as though shes the only one who can help him. Marlena expresses how shes tried everything she can in her power to bring her husband back, but he alludes her. Hope asks Marlena if she believes John is responsible for the shipment of cocaine. Are you asking me as a friend, or as a detective? retorts Marlena. Hope replies that shes asking as a friend and as a cop. Marlena doesnt know if Johns responsible. Hope states that theres a war going on between John and the Kiriakises, and if they dont put an end to it she doesnt know whats going to happen.
A cop and a shrink. My favorite pair, quips Ava as she and Nicole enter the pub. Nicole wonders if they should go somewhere else. Ava proceeds to go over and make nice. Meanwhile, Marlena shares her belief that Johns capable of making some very bad decisions. Ava comes over to say hello and invites them to join Nicole and her for a drink. Hope isnt exactly warm and fuzzy towards her former captor. Ava states that shes trying to turn her life around, which Marlena knows. Hope is stunned to realize that John and Ava are friends. Ava relays how John told her that he and Marlena are still married, but theres no real connection between the two of them. You know nothing about me. You know nothing about John. And you know nothing about what we have together, interjects Marlena. Hope accuses Ava of deliberately trying to bait Marlena.
