An unsettled Paul meets Philip on the pier and informs him that John had a couple of goons pick him up and stick a gun in his face. “I heard,” responds Philip. Paul chastises Philip for not helping him out. Philip tells him to keep his voice down. “No! I am not going to keep my voice down!” yells Paul. A desperate Paul pleads for Phil’s help, otherwise he’s a dead man. Philip confronts him about setting the fire. Paul confesses that he made a mistake and states that they’re in a mess. Philip slaps him and claims it’s not his mess. He admits to setting John up, predicting that John would’ve gone to jail and it would’ve been the end of the war. A furious Philip shoves Paul around and excoriates him for burning John’s cargo. Paul bellows how he’s sick of John telling him what to do every single day. “They’re gonna kill me Philip,” fears Paul. Philip warns Paul that he made a mistake, and now he has to suffer the consequences on his own. A desperate Paul gets on his hands and knees and begs Philip not to cut him loose. Philip advises Paul to leave town before he becomes even more of a liability.

Morgan later meets Paul on the pier and asks him what happened. Paul reveals that he’s leaving town because it’s not safe for him there anymore. A heartbroken Morgan embraces her father.

Philip later encounters a distraught Morgan on the pier and asks if she’s okay. Morgan cries that her father’s leaving town because he’s afraid his life’s in danger. Philip embraces her and tells her that she shouldn’t cry for Paul. “He’s my father!” exclaims Morgan as she breaks away. Phil apologizes. Morgan cries that she may not always approve of what Paul has done in his private life, but he loves her and she loves him. “He’s never turned his back on me!” she asserts. Philip hugs her as she continues to sob. She asks him to make sure nothing happens to Paul. “I can’t make any promises,” he says. Morgan asks if Philip will try, since she believes he has a really good heart and he cares about her. She cries that he’s the only person she trusts right now, then kisses him.

A distracted John pours Ava a Scotch at the DiMera mansion. He admits he doesn’t like getting his hands dirty. “I don’t either,” agrees Ava. John wonders why she helped him. Ava affirms that John’s her friend and he needed protecting. They drink to that. E.J. then enters the mansion yelling for Lucas. John asks for a little privacy. E.J. rants how he’s having a bad day and shares how Sami has asked him to leave and how Lucas gave Sami an ultimatum. He believes he has more of a right to stay at the mansion than either Sami or Lucas, since John’s his uncle. “No question,” responds John. E.J. complains how Sami does nothing but completely infuriate him, and if she wasn’t the mother of his child he would ring her neck. “Yeah, I know exactly how you feel,” says Lucas as he emerges. E.J. insists that Lucas doesn’t have a clue as to how he feels and asserts that if anyone’s moving out of the house, it’s Lucas. He reminds Lucas that John is his uncle, and he’s not about to kick him out of the house just to make Lucas more comfortable. John backs him up on this and allows E.J. to stay if he wants to. Nicole arrives and asks to talk to Ava somewhere else. Ava agrees to call John later. John the referee warns Lucas and E.J. to keep their voices down and not to get physical.

After John leaves the room, E.J. asks Lucas to remind him why he got him released from prison in the first place. Lucas attempts to have a civil conversation, but E.J. accuses him of being snide. E.J. assumes that Lucas isn’t in love with Sami anymore. “Let’s just say she’s done some things that I can’t get over,” implies Lucas. E.J. assumes that it has to do with Sami sleeping with him. Lucas recounts his previous conversation with Sami, in which she basically admitted that she’s confused about her feelings for E.J. E.J. wonders why Sami wants him to move out if she has all these feelings for him. Lucas suggests he figure it out for himself, referring to women as mysterious creatures. He informs his nemesis that Sami was upstairs packing up E.J’s belongings. E.J. affirms that he’s not going anywhere.

Marlena meets Hope at the pub, where Hope informs her that John’s shipment was set on fire. Marlena says she knows and has left the mansion. Hope apologizes and fills her in on John’s recent encounter with her and Bo at the pub. She surmises that for the first time in a long time he might be feeling something, like he was more emotionally accessible. She suggests that maybe now is a good time to get through to him. Marlena states that John doesn’t want her in his life. Hope insists that John is lost and needs her more than ever, and feels as though she’s the only one who can help him. Marlena expresses how she’s tried everything she can in her power to bring her husband back, but he alludes her. Hope asks Marlena if she believes John is responsible for the shipment of cocaine. “Are you asking me as a friend, or as a detective?” retorts Marlena. Hope replies that she’s asking as a friend and as a cop. Marlena doesn’t know if John’s responsible. Hope states that there’s a war going on between John and the Kiriakises, and if they don’t put an end to it she doesn’t know what’s going to happen.

“A cop and a shrink. My favorite pair,” quips Ava as she and Nicole enter the pub. Nicole wonders if they should go somewhere else. Ava proceeds to go over and make nice. Meanwhile, Marlena shares her belief that John’s capable of making some very bad decisions. Ava comes over to say hello and invites them to join Nicole and her for a drink. Hope isn’t exactly warm and fuzzy towards her former captor. Ava states that she’s trying to turn her life around, which Marlena knows. Hope is stunned to realize that John and Ava are friends. Ava relays how John told her that he and Marlena are still married, but there’s no real connection between the two of them. “You know nothing about me. You know nothing about John. And you know nothing about what we have together,” interjects Marlena. Hope accuses Ava of deliberately trying to bait Marlena.
