Philip meets with Yvonne Li, who wasn’t able to break the encryption on John’s disk. She explains that the wavelength patterns on the disk match those produced by dormant brain waves. Philip wonders if the brain waves can be accessed or unlocked. She needs more time to access them, but he doubts she’ll have much luck unlocking anything. She returns the disk to him, and he hands her an envelope for her time and expenses. He gives her a quick kiss before telling her to have a safe trip back to Hong Kong. He then phones Marlena and says he has some information about John which she might be interested in.
Chloe and Lucas are at the DiMera mansion, where Lucas puts his ankle monitor back on. He asks her if she’s sure she wants to tell the police about Paul. She insists that she has an obligation. Sami enters and cautions Lucas that Chloe isn’t someone to act in the best interest of others. She asks Chloe what she’s doing there. Chloe tells her it’s none of her business. Lucas claims that Chloe came to visit her. “So you found it really easy to forgive her for what she did to Brady, huh?” assumes Sami. Chloe asserts for the hundredth time that it’s not her fault Brady’s a drug addict. John emerges and complains how there’s always an argument in his house. He points out that Chloe is Philip Kiriakis’s girlfriend and asks her what she’s doing back in his home. Lucas states that Chloe’s a friend, and he asked her to come over. John affirms that she’s not welcome in his home, but Chloe believes he’ll change his mind if he knew what she had to say. He doesn’t want anyone associated with Philip in his home, except for Lucas. Sami asks what about E.J., pointing out that he represents Philip’s stepmom (Nicole). “E.J. stays. He’s family,” says John. Sami thinks John’s being unfair. John makes it known that it’s his house, so he says who stays and who goes. He threatens to rescind his offer to let Lucas live there under house arrest if he ever invites Chloe back to the house. Sami insists that Lucas has to stay there. “Then the fighting will stop,” declares John, who tries to assure Sami that he’s on her side. Sami agrees to make nice. John eagerly asks Sami to grab a snack. A perplexed Sami agrees to go with John, who wants Chloe gone when he returns.
Chloe doesn’t understand why Lucas didn’t explain to John and Sami why she’s there. Lucas is having second thoughts about her coming forward as a witness, since she’d be lying to Philip, John, and the police. Chloe insists that they don’t have a choice. Lucas stresses that they need to get every single detail straight.
Marlena meets with Philip privately and admits her suspicion of him. He confesses that he came into possession of something which could help John regain his memories, then displays the encrypted disk to her. He reveals that the disk contains dormant brainwave patterns, which could belong to John. She asks where he got it, but he’d rather not say. He predicts that if the disk is Stefano’s, there’s a pretty good chance Rolf made it. She suggests he give it directly to John, but Philip balks at this idea since John would be more suspicious of him. He believes John will be more receptive if Marlena gives it to him, stating that he only wants to help him. Marlena proceeds to call Roman, revealing that there was a break-in at the mansion and the disk was stolen. Philip insists that there’s no need to call the police. Marlena then realizes that Philip stole the disk and asks him what kind of game he’s playing. Philip admits he wants the old John back. Marlena believes that she and Phil have entirely different motives. She answers her phone and has to go. Philip implores her to not to tell John that the disk came from him. She agrees to take it and not tell John where she got it.
Nicole and Ava are at the juice bar at the Salem Health Club, where they discuss the lack of men in the establishment. Ava suggests they go and come back later when there are more men present. She then notes their favorite lawyer across the room, E.J. “Well maybe this isn’t a total loss after all,” predicts Nicole as she waves to E.J. Ava wonders why Nicole didn’t tell her that she and E.J. had a thing. Nicole denies it being a thing. Ava surmises that it’s something, because E.J. is avoiding her now. Nicole claims it’s no big deal, describing it as a really intense make-out session. She reveals that he wanted to sleep together, but she didn’t. Ava asks why not, noting how hot E.J. is. Nicole says all he wanted was a one-night stand, and she wants a man to really love her. Ava tells her friend she deserves it. She notes that E.J.’s definitely avoiding her, recalling how E.J. was a lot friendlier before he and Nicole had their make-out session. Nicole surmises that he’ll stay friendly until he gets his commission from her divorce. Ava checks him out and deduces that E.J.’s attracted to her but trying to hide it.
The ladies grab another drink as Sami and John arrive. Ava proceeds to ask John to join them for a drink. John smiles like a kid in a candy store when Ava approaches him. He says he’s going to grab a snack with his “soon-to-be ex-daughter-in-law,” revealing that Marlena’s considering filing for divorce. Sami asks why. John tells her to ask Marlena. “Do you want to get divorced?” questions Sami. “Maybe,” responds John. Sami walks off. Ava asks if John meant it. He affirms that he always means everything he says. She invites him to join Nicole and her for a drink, which he accepts.
Elsewhere, Sami finds E.J., who reiterates that he’s not moving out. Sami refers to him as selfish. E.J. gives her a sarcastic boo-hoo for asking him to leave his son in order to allow her to take up with another man. “The other man being the love of my life, you mean?” confirms Sami. E.J. reminds Sami that he and Lucas hate each other, which will never change. Sami continues to pester him about moving out, but he still refuses.
