Desperately Seeking Chelsea

By , About.com Guide

In Bo’s room, Hope notes to Steve that Bo’s getting weaker by the minute and she doesn’t know how much longer he’ll last. Steve tries to assure her that he’ll last as long as he has to and urges her not to give up. “You know I’m right here with you. I’m not going anywhere. Neither is Bo,” he whispers. Hope later fears that there’s not a compatible donor, since they haven’t heard anything yet. Steve tries to ease her fears and stay positive, insisting that Kayla or Lexie won’t let Bo die. Hope admits how scared she is.

Outside of Bo’s room, Kayla informs Shawn that they have a compatible donor and asks him to come back to the lab with her. Belle asks what’s going on, but Kayla keeps mum about the details.

In the hospital lab, Lexie and Daniel go over the instructions prior to the procedure. Daniel warns that if everything’s not perfect, the transplant could be over before it started. Lexie seems confident that the surgery will be a success, since they have matching blood and tissue type, the haplotype numbers are compatible, and the donor is young and healthy. Lexie later announces to Daniel that everything’s ready, and all that’s left is to find the donor and get the consent. Daniel affirms that the donor already signed a form and agreed to be tested. “It’s one thing to volunteer for something in theory, quite another to put your life at risk,” states Lexie. Kayla enters the lab with Shawn, who is eager to know who the donor is. By their hesitation, he assumes that it’s him. “You’re not the donor, Shawn,” reveals Lexie. Shawn wonders who is, but Daniel would rather not say until they’re able to contact the donor. “Why all the secrecy?” questions Shawn. Kayla and Daniel don’t want to disclose that information yet in case the donor has changed his or her mind. Kayla says the donor isn’t answering his or her cell phone, but feels confident that the person will be found. “And what if you can’t?” wonders Shawn. Daniel warns him that there’s still a chance that the pancreas will be rejected, but suggests they take things one step at a time. Shawn agrees to keep the family from asking too many questions. Lexie calls the donor and urges him or her to call back right away.

Daniel is incredulous that Lexie can’t find the donor and wonders how someone could volunteer for something like this and then simply disappear after being tested. Lexie believes there’s a good reason. “Only if they’ve been abducted by aliens,” says an agitated Daniel. Lexie tries to assure Daniel that the donor will be found and recites his quote “Let’s just take this one step at a time.”

Victor encounters Caroline in the park and tells her that she shouldn’t be outside alone. A distraught Caroline breaks down over Bo. Victor consoles Caroline and tries to assure her that she won’t lose Bo. She asks if he really thinks Daniel is capable of saving Bo. Victor warns her that the experimental procedure is risky, but knows that Daniel will do his best. Caroline relays how Daniel told her that even if the operation was successful, Bo’s body could still reject the transplant. Victor suggests they just take things one step at a time. Caroline predicts that the odds would be good for Shawn or Roman. She then reveals that Kimberly is being tested in L.A. and will fly in if she’s a match. Victor laments that he’s not a viable match and Daniel wouldn’t even consider him because of his heart condition and age. “I told him I’d gladly give away my life for my son,” admits Victor. Caroline rehashes how Shawn already did that and doubts that Bo could live knowing that both of his fathers died saving his life. She wonders if Philip could be a match, since he’s Bo’s biological half-brother. Victor reveals that he’s being tested and would be a willing donor if he’s a match. Caroline questions if the doctors can operate on Phil his with his disability. Victor assures her that he asked Daniel about that and other than the fact that Phil has lost part his leg, he’s perfectly healthy. He suggests they head back to the hospital and see if there’s any news.

Back in Bo’s room, Hope urges a dying Bo to keep fighting. “Hey. Are you an angel?” jokes Bo even in his weakened state. Hope notes how he’s always a comedian. Steve goes outside and informs Belle, Victor, and Caroline that Bo’s weak but awake. Caroline asks if they’ve found a donor, but Steve hasn’t heard anything. Belle informs them that Kayla recently took Shawn down to the lab. Caroline predicts that Bo wouldn’t want Shawn risking his life. Belle surmises that she won’t be able to talk Shawn out of it if he is a match. Shawn joins them and reveals that it’s not him. Caroline questions if they’ve found a compatible donor. Shawn says yes, but the doctors can’t release a name until the donor signs the proper forms. Victor frets that they don’t have time for that.

Kayla joins the group and informs them that the O.R.’s are ready and the surgical team is standing by, but they haven’t found the donor yet. Shawn proceeds to call the family and fill them in on the situation. Kayla, Belle, Victor, and Caroline enter Bo’s room, where Kayla fills them in on the donor situation. Hope anxiously questions who the donor is, but Kayla can’t disclose that information until the donor has been officially notified. Caroline assumes that it’s someone in the family, which Kayla confirms. Bo insists he needs to know who it is. “Alright. It’s Chelsea,” she reveals. Bo looks pained upon hearing this. He refuses to let Chelsea do it, for fear she’d either die or live the rest of her life with a partial pancreas. Steve insists otherwise. Caroline gives Daniel the scoop on her stubborn son. Daniel tells Bo that he has nothing to say about it. Bo refuses to go through with the operation. Daniel instructs Lexie to release the teams and he’ll prep the O.R. for the next surgery. Hope tells him to wait and insists that Bo’s not refusing anything. Caroline reminds Bo exactly what Chelsea would say if she was there right now. Bo claims that Chelsea doesn’t always know what’s best for her. “Well, you’re the perfect example of that right now!” affirms Caroline.
