Paul the customs worker meets with John on the docks and reveals that hes fairly new at the job and is used to lobster and first class, but hes newly divorced and his ex hits him up with alimony and child support every month. He questions if Johns married. Sort of, responds John. Paul insists he needs fast cash and needs to get the hell out of his demeaning job. John refutes that its not that demeaning, since they have a lot of power and Paul can decide what goes through customs quickly and what doesnt. He informs Paul that hes been studying the DiMera family records, and Stefanos more interested in spending money than making money. Paul suggests they cut to the chase and asks how he fits in to the deal. John states that most of the cargo that comes through customs is from Kiriakis shipping. What do you know about Victor Kiriakis? questions John. Paul informs John that he and Victor crossed paths at parties and fundraisers and Victor turned his dads shipping business into a Greek empire. The shipping business is, and always has been his bread and butter, emphasizes Paul. John later asks if they have a deal. Paul clarifies that they have an understanding.
On the docks, Marlena calls Philip before he approaches her. She shudders how John would just kill her if he knew that she was talking to him. Philip chuckles and doubts that John would do such a thing. Marlena agrees, but predicts that John would be very upset. She brings up the unspoken agreement between the Kiriakis and DiMera families in regards to a shipping business. Philip relays how John made vague comments about how all previous alliances were off. Marlena warns Philip that Johns obsessed by business. Philip warns her that he may have a problem with that. Marlena knew hed be upset by this revelation, but felt the need to warn him. She mentions her understanding that Victor is semi-retired and now Phils calling the shots. She asks him to do whatever he can to prevent a turf war between the Kiriakis and DiMera empires. He really likes having money, stresses Marlena. Money is power, theorizes Philip. Power corrupts, counters Marlena, who cant understand what else John could possibly want besides all the wonderful things in life. More, wonderful things? speculates Philip.
John then arrives and confronts Marlena about giving away trade secrets to his competitor. Philip reminds John that they had an agreement. You had a deal, with a man by the name of Stefano DiMera, clarifies John. Philip offers to make a deal with John, but hes not interested. Marlena wonders how John can do this. John rehashes what Stefano did to him and all he wants is a nice life and to build up a nice business. He announces that his first order of business is to liquidate Kiriakis shipping. Philip warns him that theres going to be a very high price to pay. He doubts it will be easy for John, since he cant even remember his former life. John states that out of all the things hes forgotten, he remembers the definition of ruthless. Marlena counters that he was never ruthless and refers to him as a compassionate and considerate with a heart. All my heart is designed to do is pump blood, claims John. Marlena and Philip simultaneously receive calls from Belle and Victor in regards to Bo.
Marlena relays how Belle mentioned that Bo was going downhill fast. Chelseas drunk, reveals Philip. They both proceed to head to the hospital. John notes how Philip concerns himself with trivial personal matters and thus he loses his focus. There is nothing more important than family, affirms Philip. Marlena rehashes how John once said that nothing was more important than his family. Maybe I was out drinking when I said that, suggests John. Philip and Marlena walk off in disgust. John encourages Bo to hang in there.

Belle approaches him and admits that shes happy to see him there. John claims he was just in the neighborhood, but Belle deduces that hes worried. Dont tell anyone, whispers John.
