Lexie later confronts a worried Bo about what’s going on, noting that he was incredibly worried about Hope and insisted on bringing Abe down to the hospital, then he suddenly backs down. She’s not buying the “I changed my mind” routine. Bo encourages her to just trust him and asks when Roman will be back in town. Lexie relays that Abe thinks it might not be until tomorrow. She takes his hand and stresses that she just wants Hope found and wants him to get well. When Steve arrives, Lexie tells him not to get Bo riled up.
After Lexie leaves the room, Bo demands to know what the hell’s going on and why they can’t get the cops involved. Steve reveals that Hope’s with a woman named Ava Vitali. Steve sits down and gives him the short version of the crazy lady who resurfaced into his life. He reveals that Ava caused the plane crash, although she claimed she just wanted to keep the plane on the ground, but her people botched the job. “Oh that makes me feel a hell of a lot better!” quips Bo. Steve expresses remorse for Bo losing Grandpa Shawn, but they need to deal with what’s going on. “This woman is threatening Kayla and our unborn child,” he stresses. Bo suggests that Steve call the cops and have them bring her in, but the cops can’t get any information on her. Steve reveals that Ava has Hope. “For some reason the crazy bitch thinks Hope is Kayla,” adds Steve, which horrifies Bo. Steve urges Bo to calm down, but that’s easier said than done. Bo demands to know how Steve’s handling the situation. Steve says he’s waiting for Ava to call him back. “You’re waiting for a phone call, while this crazy woman is doing God knows what to my wife?” asks an incredulous Bo. Steve encourages him to calm down and promises bring Hope back to him. Steve reveals that he went to Abe and told him that Ava caused the plane crash, but he couldn’t arrest Ava without any proof. Bo threatens to kick Steve’s butt if anything happens to Hope.
In Ava’s room, Hope wants to make another call. Ava refuses, since she predicts that Patch will call the cops as soon as he figures out where they are. Ava notes that her daddy taught her well, as she’s not to be underestimated. Hope wonders why Ava’s daddy didn’t just grab Patch and bring him there if the two of them are so close. “Leave my father out of this,” urges Ava. Hope continues to question Ava about her daddy. Ava states that her daddy is out of town, which means that she can get away with almost anything. She shares how she and Angelo grew up together and how protects her. “They all blame Patch for what happened to me, and they would all like to see him dead,” she warns. Hope wonders why Ava would want to put Steve in danger by bringing him there. “Because I don’t wanna live without him,” replies Ava, who believes that her daddy will accept Patch once he sees how happy he makes her. Hope warns her that it won’t be easy to get Steve away from her. Ava is eager to hear what life is like with Steve. Hope, who is playing the part of Kayla, reveals that they met nearly twenty years ago and she fell in love with him right away, although it was hard to convince him to settle down since he had such a wild side back then. Hope declares that they were finally together, despite the obstacles. “When we fell in love, we stayed in love,” she affirms. Ava doubts this is true, otherwise Steve never would’ve fell in love with her and stayed with her all those years. “Well that was only because he wasn’t with me,” refutes Hope. Ava deduces that Steve left her before. Hope drops a bomb on Ava by revealing that Steve wasn’t with her because everyone believed he had died. She recalls the explosion that was meant for someone else, but then last year he came back. “But I never stopped loving him,” affirms Hope. Hope further reveals that Stefano DiMera was behind Steve’s disappearance and that Steve had amnesia, but he eventually remembered his love for her. Ava tells her to shut up, but a feisty Hope gets in her face and yells how upset she is. “Let me go and we’ll call it even,” implores Hope. “No,” refuses Ava.
Hope implores Ava to tell her story. Ava flashes back to being in bed with Steve after doing the deed. Steve mutters how her old man would kill him if he knew Steve was there. They get amorous again as Steve declares that he loves her. “Make an honest woman out of me,” she urges, but Steve doesn’t think Daddy would approve. Steve then worries that Ava’s daddy would keep them apart. Ava implores him to marry her, then. They get amorous again before Ava comes back to reality, vowing that Steve will love her again. Hope is eager to hear more, but Ava refuses to talk about the past since it gives her a headache. Ava only wants to discuss the future. “The future you’re so convinced you can have again with Steve,” assumes Hope. “The future that I know I’m gonna have with Patch!” asserts Ava. Hope implores her to call Steve and get him there, like she mentioned earlier. Ava wonders why she’s so anxious. Hope believes Ava will come to her senses and let her go when she sees how much Steve loves her and the baby. Ava believes she’s in for a rude awakening.
Back in Bo’s room, Steve insists that they need to first to find Hope and keep her, Kayla, and Stephanie safe. Bo understands that Steve didn’t mean for it to happen. Steve then receives a call from a restricted number and answers it to Ava and asks to talk to “Kayla,” but Ava refuses. He implores her to be straight with him and tell him what she wants. Ava brings up the roadhouse where they used to meet so her daddy wouldn’t find them. She orders him to meet him there in the alley behind the motel in a couple of hours. “Will Kayla be with you?” asks Steve. She tells him to stop asking questions if he ever wants to see his pregnant wife again, then hangs up.
