Double the Billing

By , About.com Guide

Marlena stands in front of a woozy John at the DiMera mansion, who is outraged to discover that he’s handcuffed to the chair. Roman reminds him that he assaulted a police officer, resisted arrest, and now they have him on possible drug trafficking. John protests to know nothing about it. Sami emerges into the living room and questions what’s going on. “Your mother jammed a needle in me and knocked me out,” replies an infuriated John. Marlena reminds John he was out of control and having a phobic attack, but he tells her to spare him the psycho babble. She urges him to find a way to calm himself down. “Not until these cuffs come off!” he bellows. EJ arrives and wonders if someone needs a lawyer, which John confirms. A furious John fills EJ in on the recent events. “Double the billing!” yells John as he insists on being freed from his cuffs. EJ informs John that hitting a police officer limits the options. Roman insists they go down to the station. John vows to make Roman regret this. Roman threatens to throw John into a six-by-six holding cell if he doesn’t control his temper and back off. He escorts John out of the mansion. A worried Sami believes John is innocent and asks EJ if he’s going to be able to help John.

Lucas comes downstairs after putting the twins to sleep. He and Sami have a civil moment as Lucas recounts going into one of the guest rooms and playing peek-a-boo with Allie. He implies how Allie’s little twinkle in her eye and smile reminds him of someone he knows. Sami fills him in on how John’s been accused of drug trafficking. Lucas notes that it doesn’t sound like the “old” John, but the “new” John seems like he’s capable of anything. Sami admits he likes the way John is now, since he’s more tolerant and doesn’t judge her. This strikes a nerve with Lucas, who asks why she had to fall in love with EJ of all people. Sami swears she’s not in love with EJ, which he overhears from the other room. Lucas is dubious, since the last time they talked she said just the opposite. Sami and Lucas argue again before a dejected EJ enters to get his briefcase. She snatches the annulment papers from him and wants to sign them. He reveals that his part is already signed and tells her to have a nice life before storming out of the mansion. Lucas watches as she signs the annulment papers.

Lucas later holds Allie after changing and feeding her. They join Sami and Johnny on the sofa as Sami notes how comfortable Allie is with him. She suggests putting them both down, but Lucas wants to hold onto Allie a little longer. Sami shares how she told the twins how much she missed him. Lucas resents having to share the kids with EJ, even though he knows EJ is Johnny’s father. Sami believes things will be different, especially since she just signed the annulment papers. Lucas is dubious, though. She asks Lucas if he wants them to start over. “I want us to have a future together, and if you want that too you just have to find a way to forgive me and move on,” she expresses.

Sami later remarks how frustrating putting babies to bed is, suggesting it should be an Olympic event. She reiterates her question if he wants to have a future with her. He says he doesn’t think he can, as he can’t forget that she slept with another man. “I’m sorry,” she whispers. Lucas rants how he needs time to get over this. Sami is willing to give him whatever he needs, she just wants to know if there’s hope. Lucas admits that all he ever thought about in jail was her and had good things to hope for. “There are no good things without you, Lucas,” she expresses with tears in her eyes. “You are the love of my life,” she professes. She pleads with him for a chance to prove that she means it, then inches towards him and kisses him. Lucas finally breaks away from their kiss and walks out of the room without saying a word.

Ava arrives at the police station to sign papers regarding the release of Martino’s body. Chelsea approaches her and asks what the hell she’s doing there. “What’s your problem?” retorts Ava. “My problem is you, Bitch!” replies a hostile Chelsea. Ava asks who she is and what her problem is. Chelsea introduces herself, which makes Ava realize that she’s Bo’s daughter. “You planning any more plane crashes or abductions?” questions Chelsea, who berates Ava for putting her family through hell. Ava admits what she did was inexcusable, but refuses to go there, as she’s so tired of having to explain herself. Chelsea implores her to leave town and wonders what’s stopping her. Ava reminds her of a thing called bail, so she can’t exactly just get up and leave town. Chelsea admonishes her to stay away from her family. Ava brings up how Chelsea risked her life to save Bo’s and reminds her how fortunate she is to have a dad who loves her. Abe hands Ava the papers she needs to claim her father’s body. Ava wonders what she does now. Abe tells her she’ll have to make the arrangements with the coroner.

Abe asks Chelsea what brings her there. Chelsea claims she just wanted to see her dad and proceeds to check the pub. Abe then hears the commotion nearby with Roman bringing in an angry John. Marlena insists to Abe that John can’t be confined, but Abe reminds her that they have a job to do. In Roman’s office, John explains to Roman that whenever an event triggers a memory from Rolf’s lab, instincts take over and he has no control. He rants how Roman wouldn’t let him go down to the docks and insists that he was protecting himself the way he was programmed to. Abe questions John about the cocaine smuggled onto one of his ships. EJ arrives and proceeds to recite a list of civil liberty infractions perpetrated upon his client. He advises them against using force and intimidation to obtain compliance from a suspect. Ava overhears and believes she’s found herself a lawyer, as she’s impressed with EJ. EJ demands that they release John. Roman and Abe refuse, believing that he’s a flight risk and a danger to the community. Marlena requests to speak to Roman privately as Abe takes John down to booking and processing.
