Kate's Hearth & Home

By , About.com Guide

Kate is getting made up as she prepares to shoot her upcoming commercial for her “Hearth & Home” business. She gets frustrated with one of her “snap and seal storage container” lines when someone named Jeff Voorhies approaches her. “You must be my wife,” he assumes, as he reveals that he plays her husband. Kate extends her hand and introduces herself. Elsewhere, Tony introduces himself to Barney Bateman, the director, and thanks him for coming on such short notice. Tony gives a nervous Kate a rose, then gives her a quick kiss on the cheek for good luck just as Anna arrives.

Barney then announces that one of the actors called in sick, so he tells everyone to take five. Anna approaches Kate and jeers how she hardly recognized her without all her overdone eye makeup. Kate asks what she’s doing there. Anna says she was invited, as Tony thought they could use her expertise. Kate wonders if he’s kidding, as she’s not sure if Anna knows the difference between a flower pot and a crock pot. Anna throws more snarky remarks at Kate before Tony implores the ladies to at least pretend they like each other. Tony nudges Anna and asks her to excuse them for a moment. Kate emphasizes to Tony that it’s her product, her commercial, and her rules. Thus, either Anna goes or she does.

Meanwhile, Anna reads a portion of Kate’s commercial from the script. Barney is impressed with her reading and inquires if she’s ever done any acting. Anna chuckles that she played Liesel in her high school production of The Sound of Music. He proposes that she be in Kate’s commercial. Anna is delighted and can’t say no, to Kate’s chagrin.

Kate and Anna are in the commercial together, where Anna praises Kate on her immaculate house, beautiful garden, and still having time to bake cookies. Kate throws a fit when Anna throws in a wrong line about husbands not appreciating anything a womem do. Tony pulls Kate off of Anna, who suggests hitting Kate in the head with a skillet. Barney instructs them to take it from the top, yelling that they need hair and makeup.

Anna later tells Jeff how nice it was to meet him and wishes him luck doing Hamlet in Canada. Meanwhile, Kate rants to Tony how Anna ruined the shoot and predicts she’ll be lucky if she can sell a potholder. She marches over to Anna and tells her to forget about the Internet account she gave her, vowing to never work with her again. Anna is appalled, since she put in over 20 hours of work into the account. Tony believes Kate needs to just cool off. Anna remarks what a risk he took by allowing her to be in the commercial and wonders what if Kate pulls his account too. “There are many other accounts out there, but there are no other Annas,” he remarks. He offers to take her to dinner to Chez Rouge. She accepts, then jokes about cooking, cleaning, and grated cheese. He kisses her, then mentions what a pity it is that the cameras aren’t rolling. Anna calls him a naughty boy as they get frisky.

Marlena enters the living room of the DiMera mansion, where John asks her if he should expand business interests for Italy or Japan. Marlena suggests Italy, since they were married there once. John agrees to Italy. She asks if she can borrow his computer, since hers keeps freezing up. “You do realize, that I will expect something in return,” he states before he lays a passionate kiss on her. EJ and Sami enter and witness the two of them kissing. “You kids should know better than to ever interrupt me when I’m making out with my wife,” says John. Marlena claims that’s not what they were doing. EJ chuckles and questions what exactly they were doing. “Yeah, Doc. Tell em,” he implores. Sami gets excited when he calls her ‘Doc’ and assumes that the old John is back. Rolf overhears and drops the tray of food. Sami quietly asks her mother why she was kissing John if the ‘old’ John’s not back. “I kissed her. And she loved every second of it,” gloats John.

Rolf says he will need to get the chair cleaned. John isn’t concerned about it, then orders Rolf to get rid of Stefano’s portrait. Rolf is hesitant. John reiterates his order, insisting that he finds it hard to concentrate with Stefano watching him all the time. A perplexed Sami asks Rolf why he’s freezing up. Rolf flashes back to putting John’s disk in the safe behind the portrait. He claims he’ll feel as though he’s betraying Stefano. Marlena reminds Rolf that Stefano’s in a coma and isn’t coming back. Rolf claims it’s too painful for him to facilitate the end of an era. John marches over to remove the portrait himself. He discovers the safe behind the portrait, to Rolf’s dismay. Marlena is stunned to see a safe. Rolf uses his “cake in the oven” excuse to head to the kitchen, but John stops him and asks him what the combination is. Rolf denies knowing anything about a safe. John vows to crack it, even if it takes a while. He grabs a stethoscope, stating that he’s going to “check for a pulse.” John manages to pry the safe open and finds real estate documents. Marlena and EJ note how odd it is that Stefano went through all that trouble to hide real estate documents. John then uncovers a disk hidden among the documents. Rolf is livid.

John later intends to examine the disk in private. Sami and EJ ask John and Marlena to testify on their behalf at the immigration hearing. Sami clarifies that they only want John and Marlena to verify that they are a real couple. John assumes they want him and Marlena to lie. Marlena asks Sami if she’s sure about it. Sami admits that it’s upsetting, but she doesn’t know when Lucas is getting out of jail. She affirms that EJ has been a good father and refuses to keep EJ from his son the same way she did to Lucas. “Come on, Blondie. It’s just a lie,” insists John. “Perhaps lying is second nature to you, but it goes against everything for which I stand,” states Marlena. Sami insists that she’s not asking Marlena to lie and claims that she and EJ do all sorts of things normal married couples do. “Except one, very important act,” implies John. Marlena can’t promise anything, especially if she’s asked anything specific. Sami hugs her mom and thanks her.
