2009 DAYS Casting News

Here's an Updated List of Comings and Goings for DAYS!

Coming:

  • TV Guide Magazine is reporting that Daytime Emmy Award-winner Crystal Chappell is returning to the show as Dr. Carly Manning, a.k.a. Katerina Von Leuschner. As long-time DAYS fans recall, the lovely actress portrayed Carly from June 1990 until October 1993. Incidentally, she is married to former co-star Michael Sabatino (ex-Lawrence Alamain). Crystal has portrayed Olivia Spencer on CBS's Guiding Light since 1999. She begins taping in September and will first air in October.

  • Soap Opera Digest has learned exclusively that Wally Kurth (ex-Ned, GH) is returning to his role as Justin Kiriakis Tuesday, August 11. Justin was last seen in Salem back in 1991. Could Emmy winner Judi Evans (ex-Adrienne) be far behind? Many fans can only hope!

    Update: Don't look for Judi Evans to reprise her role of Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis, since the Daytime Emmy winner has landed a role on As the World Turns, according to Soap Opera Digest. No details available as to what character she'll portray.

  • Soap Opera Digest is reporting that David Leisure is joining the cast as the new district attorney. Soap fans may remember him as Roger Wilkes on The Young and the Restless this year. No word yet as to when his first airdate is.

  • Soap Opera Digest is also reporting that Catherine Wadkins will appear as a crazed widow after her husband Carlo, the Kiriakis bodyguard, turns up dead. Catherine will share scenes on Tuesday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 5 with Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip). She was last seen as crazed widow Mary Bishop on General Hospital in 2004.

  • Harley Graham appeared as Tracey, Ciara's friend, on Friday, July 10.

  • Jaycee Jewel portrayed Ellen, the mother of Ciara's friend, on Friday, July 10.

  • According to the June 30, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest, John Callahan will return soon as Dr. Baker. This is listed under "Stuff We Know (And Shouldn't Tell You) in the Comings and Goings Section.

  • Soap Opera Digest is reporting that two new faces are comng to Salem. Rachel Kimsey (ex-Max, Y&R) will portray Meredith beginning Monday, July 20. Meredith shares a past with Rafe. Nick Stabile (ex-Mark, Sunset Beach) debuted on Thursday, June 25. Character's name will soon be announced.

  • According to Ross Matthews's blog, the TV personality is scheduled to make more upcoming appearances on the show as Chris, Kate's assistant. He appeared the week of June 22 and is also scheduled to make some appearances in July.

  • Marsha Clark returned on Monday, June 29 as Judge Karen Fitzpatrick.

  • Pat Crawford Brown returned as Sister Agnes on Monday, June 22.

  • Remember Pete and Melissa from the 80s? Well, apparently they have a son named Nathan, who will be portrayed by newcomer Mark Hapka this summer. Nathan, a first-year intern at University Hospital, will move in with his grandparents Mickey and Maggie this summer and cross paths with Melanie. Mark's first airdate as Nathan was Wednesday, June 17. Read here for more.

    Update: Somebody must've alerted the writers of the history, because the June 23, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest now states that Nathan Horton is Melissa's son, and "his father is unknown at this point."

  • Another newcomer by the name of Casey Jon Deidrick will portay Chad, Mia's ex-boyfriend this summer. Chad is unaware that Mia was even pregnant.

    Update: Casey Jon Deidrick made his debut as Chad Peterson on Friday, June 19.

  • Jacoby Elisbury, the Boston Red Sox outfielder, appeared in the background at Java Cafe on Thursday, June 18. Kristian Alfonso (Hope), who is from Massachusetts, quotes in the June 23, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest: "I was thrilled to meet him because my father is such a big Red Sox fan."

  • Mary Jo Catlett portrayed Bev the nurse the week of June 8 and helped Rafe with his paperwork for Grace, after Nicole told the nurse she was a DiMera.

  • Rick Scarry portrayed the funeral director the week of June 8.

  • Rachel Melvin returned as Chelsea on Wednesday, June 10 and on Thursday, June 11 and had a passionate reunion with Max.

  • Yvette Freeman portrayed a nurse the week of June 1 and helped care for an ailing baby Grace.

  • Brie Gabrielle appeared as Mia's cousin Jamie on Friday, May 29. Jamie interrupted a close moment between Will and Mia.

  • Shelby Young portrays Kinsey.

  • Brendan Coughlin portrays Tad, Will's friend.

  • Steve Bruns portrays Marco, the new DiMera thug, beginning Thursday, April 23.

  • Ralph Waite portrays Father Matt.

  • Mary Garripoli portrays Mary, the DiMera housekeeper.

Leaving:

  • John Callahan will be off the canvas for a little while as Dr. Baker, who was last seen on Wednesday, May 13 after Rafe persuaded him to leave town.

  • The April 21, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Darin Brooks (Max) is leaving in late May. As reported back in December, he landed a role in Spike TV's Blue Mountain State.

    Update: Darin Brooks's last day as Max Brady was Monday, July 6, when Max said good-bye to his family before departing to London to be with Chelsea.
