Sami works her tough love strategy on EJ, remarking how he’s had everything handed to him on a sliver platter and assumes he can’t take it when times get a little tough. He admits he doesn’t want to live at all if he’s paralyzed. Sami tells him how pathetic he sounds. EJ tells her to get out and suspects she’s there because his father offered her something or threatened her. Sami claims she hasn’t talked to Stefano. “Never lie to a liar Darling, especially not one as good as me,” he advises. “Well there you see. You’re bragging to me. You can’t be that depressed,” she notes. He tells her to get out and go home to Lucas, but she refuses and insists she cares about him. She urges him to think about his son and stop feeling sorry for himself. Sami shares how she and Lucas used to hate each other and she used to trash Lucas in front of Will. She refuses to make that mistake again with their little boy and demurs how everything’s changed between her and Lucas. EJ wonders if there’s a possibility between the two of them. “I’ll tell you one thing for sure. I could never be in love with someone who can’t stop feeling sorry for himself because for once in his charmed life everything doesn’t come up roses,” she affirms.

EJ urges her to keep watching as he attempts to move his legs. Sami believes he can lead a long successful life if he would just stop pitying himself. He tells her to shut up. She urges him to fight and displays the photo of his son before him. EJ claims he appreciates what she’s trying to do, but implores her to stop her heroic attempts. He professes to love and care about her too deeply to allow herself to throw her life away on half a man. “You are the only man who can be a father to your son. But being a man means that you don’t get to run away from the responsibility that you have to teach your son what it is to step up and face all of life’s challenges,” she affirms. EJ refuses to burden his son with an invalid father or to allow Sami to play nursemaid for the rest of his life. He professes to love his son too much to burden him with his condition. “If you really believe that then you have a lot more wrong with you than just your legs,” spits Sami. She asserts that he’s still the same man and says she’ll help him fight this. This elicits laughter from EJ, who is dubious that she’ll really help him. “You have to believe,” she stresses. He strokes her face and thanks her for the pep talk, but says it’s only a dream that he’ll ever walk again. He encourages her once again to go back to Lucas and forget about him. She reminds him how selfish she is and how he can’t make her leave. He refuses to believe she cares and tells her to get out and leave him alone. He then claims he doesn’t feel so good and believes his fever’s coming back. Sami feels his forehead as he pleads with her to go. She then sits down and puts her arms around him.

Bo later arrives at the pub and asks Shawn D. how Claire is doing. Shawn says she’s great and invites Bo to speak first. Bo reminds him that he took off from the station without telling anyone when Claire got hurt and warns him that all the review board is going to see is that he failed to act like a cop. Bo urges him to make the department his top priority. “If you can’t make that adjustment, you can’t be a cop,” he affirms. Shawn claims it won’t happen again and reminds Bo that he’s not a cop yet. He understands that leaving for Claire was a bad call, but he didn’t think it was make or break. Bo doubts Abe will hold it against him as long as the lesson was learned. Shawn then shares his suspicions of Steve and how he was snooping behind the bar, then left when Shawn approached him. Shawn then retrieves a concealed gun from behind the bar and deduces that it’s what Steve was looking for. Bo notes what a smart move Shawn made by keeping his prints off the gun. He compliments Shawn on his good instincts, which are essential in being a cop.

Shawn wonders if Bo believes that Steve’s involved, but Bo doesn’t know at this point. Shawn assumes Bo will send the gun off to the lab for some testing, which Bo confirms. Bo states they need to know for sure if the gun belonged to Steve and comes up with a plan to go about this.

Shawn greets Steve when he returns to the pub. Steve wonders if Shawn should be out getting his tux fixed, but Shawn claims he already got it done. Steve requests two bowls of chowder to go. Caroline emerges from the kitchen and asks for Shawn’s help and tells Steve she’ll get his chowder. Steve goes behind the bar looking for his hidden gun and is startled when Bo approaches him and wonders what he’s doing.

Lucas later leaves a message for Sami. An officer then brings Will home after he is busted for underage drinking. The officer reveals that he found a group of teens along with Will down by the lumberyard having a private party. Since it’s Will’s first offense, the officer let him off with a warning. Lucas assures the officer it won’t happen again. He then berates his son for his actions and reminds him of the family risk they have with alcoholism. He affirms that he’s only yelling because he’s mad and Will is scaring him. Will expresses his wish to go to Switzerland to live with Carrie and Austin. Lucas wonders why. “Because at least when I’m there I don’t have to watch my mom wrecking my life,” replies Will.

Lucas phones a private school in regards to Will and informs his son that the school will accept his credits so he can graduate. He tries to assure Will that nothing’s his fault and that he and Sami love him very much. He admits he’ll miss his son a lot. Will claims he just wants his parents to be alright. Lucas hugs him and assures him that he’ll figure out a way to make everything okay. “We’re a family. We always will be no matter what,” affirms Lucas.

Roman later enters his office, where Kate accuses him of leaving her stuck there for hours and hours. He reveals that the cops just finished turning her penthouse upside down. She fumes how Bo told her that if she submitted a statement, then he wouldn’t go through her things. Roman then displays her gun and suggests she change her statement.
