In Santo Domingo, Sami gets off the phone with Kayla after thanking her for watching the twins. Lucas is in disbelief that they are there while it’s the twins first night home from the hospital. He notes the 10 grand their lawyer had on his wrist. Sami jokes about getting their law degrees and moving down there. “Yeah, I guess drive-thru divorces are big aren’t they?” assumes a less than thrilled Lucas. Sami mentions how sad it is. “Yeah it is, especially since the ones splitting up still love each other,” chimes Lucas. Sami insists it’s just a piece of paper which doesn’t mean anything. Lucas disagrees and states that the DiMeras won. Thus, EJ gets exactly what he wants. They embrace each other.

Sami recalls how she once made Lucas watch a movie about an immigrant woman who had to come to America and marry a man whom she didn’t even know, but they met in New York and fell in love instantly. Sami points out that in their hearts they were married. She takes Lucas’s hand and assures him that he will always be in her heart no matter what. She encourages him to take advantage of their time together and kisses him passionately. They are interrupted by a knock on the door as Lucas moans about the bad timing. The messenger refers to Sami as Mrs. Horton and introduces Lucas as her husband Lucas Horton. The messenger is confused, since he assumed that Lucas was the new husband. Sami can’t bring herself to sign the divorce document, so Lucas suggests they can find another way. Lucas apologizes to the messenger and asks him to give the two of them a moment alone. Lucas then presents Sami with a page that he ripped from a travel magazine on Australia, which is where they were supposed to go for their one-year anniversary. Lucas recalls how excited they were about the trip and fumes how their dreams are now over thanks to EJ. Sami tries to assure him otherwise. Lucas believes EJ will keep her from him and lock her up if he has to. He reveals that when he was at the hospital, he threatened to kill EJ with his bare hands if he married Sami. “What if there was a way to make EJ Wells disappear forever?” suggests Lucas. “Lucas you are not killing EJ,” asserts Sami, who rehashes how she went to death row for a crime she didn’t commit and thus had to say good-bye to everyone she loved, including Will. Thus, she doesn’t want to put their son through that torment twice. Sami tries to assure Lucas that they can get through this ordeal by taking it one day at a time. She reluctantly signs the divorce paper followed by a hesitant Lucas.

After the signatures, Sami tries to assure him that they will be together again. He touches her face and expresses how much he’ll miss it. Sami admits she’s about ready to cry, then Lucas proposes they enjoy their last night together and make it as memorable as possible. They sit down on the bed together and profess their undying love for one another before sharing a kiss.

Lucas and Sami later cuddle on the bed as he offers to give her an oil massage. She relaxes on the bed and spies an envelope slide through the door, then discovers that the DNA results confirm that the baby boy is EJ’s. She begins to cry, then hides the results upon hearing Lucas’s voice. She apologizes to her now ex-husband and blames the tears on hormones. He lovingly rubs her back with massage oil and implores a devastated Sami to think about happy places and happy times.

Kate summons EJ to the hospital and informs him that the DNA results are in on Sami’s twins. EJ anxiously questions if he’s the father. Kate hands him the results and he hugs Kate in excitement that he has a son. Kate tells him to keep his voice down as EJ marvels in delight about his and Sami’s child together. A delusional EJ actually believes that if Sami loves the boy, then she can open up her heart to loving him as well. Kate deduces that he’s underestimating the bond between Sami and Lucas, which is something she did when she attempted to break them up numerous times in the past. EJ speculates that Lucas and Sami are divorced by now. Kate gloats how they’re alone in a tropical romantic place, which means they might not go through with the divorce. EJ isn’t the least bit concerned about the divorce and wonders where his son is now. Kate claims she doesn’t know. EJ asks her to do some investigating and implies that it’s in their best interests. He proceeds to go share the good news with Stefano.

EJ visits Stefano at the mansion and notes what a glorious evening it is. He congratulates Stefano on having a grandson. The two men embrace each other in delight. “Bravo, bravo, bravo!” exclaims Stefano. Stefano deduces that Sami wasn’t very pleased about the outcome. EJ says she doesn’t know yet, but will soon. Stefano proposes they plan the wedding. They make a toast to the future. EJ reveals that the stem cells from the umbilical cord have been stored. Stefano states how proud he is of Elvis, then questions what the boy’s name is. EJ replies that Sami wants to call him John as a tribute to John Black. Stefano suggests calling him “Johndy,” which elicits laughter from EJ. EJ encourages Stefano to be a mentor for the boy just as he was for EJ.

The DiMera men later sit down and discuss the possibilities of little Johnny’s childhood. Stefano asks where the boy is, but before EJ can answer they hear the doorbell. EJ answers it to an annoyed Kate, who complains that she should be getting a finder’s fee. Stefano is delighted to see Kate, who reveals that the twins are with Steve and Kayla. Stefano is outraged by this news.
