Sami rushes back over to EJ’s side and displays concern. He thanks her and admits he can’t wait to get home and be with her and Johnny / Gianni. Sami urges him to lay down the law with Stefano, fearing that her father-in-law will explode every time he doesn’t get what he wants. EJ is bewildered that Sami is willing to cross Stefano again. “You still have a spine don’t you? Use it!” she urges. Stefano then enters and suggests they have a little family talk. He remarks how radiant she looks and thanks her for taking care of Elvis and his grandson. He invites her to bring the boy over to the house so they can have a party. EJ assures his father that Sami will bring him over later and insists that she needs to rest. Stefano affirms that the male child has to bond with the men in the family, since they are the ones who will guide and shape his future. “You are out of your mind! There is no way on God’s green earth that I will allow you to have anything to do with shaping my son!” seethes Sami. EJ backs Stefano up on the family traditions, but agrees that now is not the right time. Stefano expresses his disappointment in EJ before he leaves. Sami thanks EJ for siding with her. EJ asks her to kiss the boy for him, then asks her to kiss both of the twins. He tries to assure Sami that Stefano won’t cause trouble.
Marlena later returns home and leans against the door aching for John (so are the rest of us). Wearing black gloves, she unlocks a drawer and pulls a gun out, then puts it in the trash. She opens the door with the trash bag in hand and sees Hope standing there, who offers to give her a hand with the trash. Hope spills how Bo had a hunch that she’d return home and try to get rid of the evidence. She confirms that no-one else knows except the two of them and Bo and claims that they just want to help.
The gun is later on the table as Marlena recalls the name of a book which John loved, entitled Stranger in a Strange Land, which is exactly how she feels. She refers to EJ as a monster and desponds over Belle losing the most important relationship in her life because of Philip. Hope consoles Marlena, who states that life goes on no matter how hard you try to stop it. “Is that what you did? Did you try to stop it?” questions Hope.
Marlena later picks up a picture of her and John and refers to Sami as stubborn and bullheaded. She rehashes how Sami married the man who shot John. Hope states that Sami truly believed she was protecting her family by marrying EJ. “She isn’t!” barks Marlena, who expresses how angry she was at Sami that she could barely grieve for John. Hope is surprised to realize that Marlena knew when the wedding was taking place. “I guess you can never keep a mother from knowing the day that your daughter signs a pact with the devil,” Marlena explains. Marlena confesses that she took Claire to a trusting neighbor, put on a black dress, loaded John’s gun, then went to the church and waited. “What were you thinking?” wonders a spooked Hope. Marlena laughs as she replies that she actually thought Sami would leave EJ at the altar. “So I shot him,” she reveals. She admits her hand was shaking so badly that she could barley aim the gun. She recalls hearing a shot from somewhere else in the church which startled her so badly that she pulled the trigger, then recounts how there was a third shot, then heard somebody running. Hope deduces that Marlena can’t possibly know if it was her shot that hit EJ. Marlena requests time to spend with her family and time to get her affairs in order before she’s arrested. Hope tells her to slow down, since they don’t even know if her bullet hit EJ. “I shot the gun. I wanted him dead as my husband,” confesses Marlena. Hope tries to assure her that she, Bo, Roman, and Abe will do everything they can to keep her out of prison.
Bo and Roman arrive at a location about a mile and a half from the church. They hear commotion nearby, where someone is getting their butt chewed out for messing up a crime scene. Bo and Roman discover Detective Dom berating Shawn for his actions. The detective apologizes to Bo for going off on Shawn, but claims Shawn smashed the only clean footprint they had. Roman deduces that the footprint wasn’t going to make their case slam dunk anyway.
Sami later arrives home and wonders if she’s that late. Lucas informs her that she missed two feedings and the milk she left is all gone. Sami apologizes. Lucas suggests switching the babies over to formula is she’s going to be late. She claims it won’t happen again. He shares that Belle stopped by and proceeds to go get some sleep. Sami then asks if he still loves her. Lucas is bewildered by her question, considering he’s not the one who wanted their marriage annulled. He insists that she’s needed at home instead of at EJ’s beck and call. Sami informs him that EJ’s getting better. “What does that mean for us?” questions Lucas, who admits it kills him that he doesn’t get to see her anymore and misses everything about her. Sami answers him with a passionate kiss, then apologizes and promises to spend more time with the man that she loves. They are interrupted by the sound of the babies crying and she proceeds to check on them. “My babies need me,” she insists. “We all do,” whispers Lucas before she kisses him again.
Stefano later re-enters EJ’s room and tells him how disappointed he is in his son. He demands for EJ to be a man and step up to the plate where Sami’s concerned. He warns EJ that if he can’t handle Samantha, then he will his own way.
