Bo and Shawn are hard at work at the police station when Shawn announces that he has a bunch of messages for Deputy Commissioner Brady. What happened to Uncle Roman? queries Bo as he notes Shawns formality. On the job, sir, smiles Shawn. Bo reveals that Romans taking a personal day. Shawn wonders if Roman's going to Sami and EJs wedding. Id fear for Juniors life if he did, replies Bo. Shawn is bewildered that Samis marrying that sleazeball. Bo agrees, then asks Shawn how his first night at the cop shop is going. Shawn discusses the paperwork, the hookers in the jail cells with foul language, and laughs about someone actually trying to rob a pharmacy with a comb. Bo notes Shawns good attitude and reminds him that he wont always be at the bottom of the food chain. Bo requests more coffee from his subordinate Shawn. He then holds his gun and has a flashback of asking for Romans gun at the pub.
Belle and Claire are at the pub when Belle receives a call from Shawn. He raves about how great his day is at the station and assures her that hes not mad about the letter. She reiterates how losing him scares her. Shawn reminds her that the cops nailed the guy who ran over her dad. Not the one who hired him, clarifies Belle. Shawn claims thats why he has to be a cop, for her dad and everyone else who has been a victim of a crime. After they exchange I love yous, Belle then hands the phone to Claire and coaxes her to say hi to her daddy. She says "Hi Daddy" to Shawn on the phone, then spots Philip walk in and rushes over to him, calling him daddy. Belle is stunned silent by his arrival and puts her phone down.
Shawn suspiciously calls Belle back, but gets her voicemail. He brings Bo coffee, who notes Shawns preoccupation. Shawn hopes that nothings wrong, since he was just talking to Belle before they lost connections. Bo then queries if he confronted Philip about the letter. Shawn claims he decided not to do it, keeping mum who the real culprit is.
Back at the pub, Belle sits Claire down to finish her coloring. Philip raves how Claire still calls him daddy. Belle claims she was on the phone with Shawn, which is why she said Daddy. She then picks up her phone and realizes Shawns not there. Philip presents Claire with a box of toys from the mansion. Belle reminds Philip how they decided it was better for Claire to see less of him. No, you decided, Phil clarifies. He claims its a bit unfair to make Claire pay for what happened between them. Shell get over it, speculates Belle. Will you? asks Philip. She dodges that question and thanks him for bringing the toys over, then tries to blow him off. He vows to tell Claire the truth as she grows up and wonders why Uncle Philip wasnt invited to the birthdays and Christmas gatherings.
Belle later proceeds to get Claire from Caroline and take her upstairs. They briefly discuss the bedtime routine before Philip apologizes for pushing Shawns buttons. He admits he doesnt like being that type of guy and doesnt blame Belle for wanting him out of his life. She reminds him how theyve all been friends forever, but she never thought theyd end up like this. He clarifies that he doesnt want to be her friend. Unbeknownst to them, Claire emerges and climbs up in a high chair by a coffee pot and grabs a toy. Meanwhile, Belle claims shell have to discuss the issue of Philip being a part of Claires life with Shawn first. After Philip leaves, Claire screams and falls down. Belle rushes over to a crying Claire and soothes her. She sits Claire down as Philip rushes back in, noting that she got burned by the coffee while reaching for the toys. Philip goes to fetch some ice before they take her to the ER.
Sami unhappily strolls down the aisle at her wedding to EJ as guns are drawn. Stefano and EJ beam with excitement. Father Kelly begins the sham of a ceremony. EJ has no problem exchanging his vows and rings, but Sami struggles to get through without cracking. They are pronounced husband and wife. Stefano applauds the declaration. EJ begins to kiss his bride, but Sami puts a halt to it. Suddenly, three shots ring out and EJ collapses to the floor. Sami and Stefano rush to his side and are astounded by the horrific event.
The paramedics later arrive on the scene as EJ is strapped to a gurney. Father Kelly recounts hearing three gunshots. One of the paramedics questions Sami about EJs blood type. Stefano replies that hes A negative. One of the officers then requests a statement from Stefano, who refers to him as an idiot and demands that he find out who did this. The officer informs an irate Stefano that Detective Bradys heading up the investigation and will be arriving soon. Its a Brady who did this! seethes Stefano. Stefano encourages EJ to open his eyes, while Sami implores her new husband to save his strength. EJ claims he cant feel his legs. Sami sits down and attempts to wipe the blood off her arms, noting that she and EJ are married and thus the vendettas over. She reminds Stefano that she held up her end of the bargain. My son loves you. You can give him the will to live, for you and his son, urges Stefano. He implores her to promise to be the wife EJ deserves. In exchange, hell keep his promise. I will see you at the hospital, Mrs. DiMera, announces Stefano to a daunted Sami before leaving.
Back at the station, Bo wonders why Shawn changed his mind about confronting Philip. Shawn claims he cant show Philip how badly it got to him. An officer interrupts their chat and informs the men of the shooting at St. Luke's. Shawn proceeds to head out with Bo, who orders him to keep his hands off the crime scene and stay close to him.
Lucas comes home and gives the baby-sitter a generous compensation for coming on such short notice. She graciously thanks him and encourages him to call again. After she leaves, a tense Lucas opens a bottle of liquor and contemplates taking a drink. Billie knocks on the door with news that there was a shooting at St. Lukes. Lucas nervously informs her that EJ was shot and they dont know if hell make it.
