University Hospital
Daniel enters a sleeping Kate’s hospital room, who doesn’t look like a suffering cancer patient with her pretty makeup on. She awakens and notes how he’s smiling, just like he was in her dream. She believes her dream will come true, in that he’ll save her. Daniel takes her hand as Kate recalls her dream, in which Daniel came up with a miracle pill that made her healthy and strong again. Daniel sits on the bed with her as they ponder how the treatments have helped and what her chances of survival are. He proceeds to go see if the results are ready. Kate apologizes for putting pressure on him. She still vows to fight as hard as she possibly can and is prepared not to be saved. “I have lived a full life,” she expresses. A teary-eyed Kate wants Daniel to have a life filled with love.
Brady Pub
Chloe meets Lucas and asks him what’s going on. He hands her a listing for a house and says he has to decide whether or not to commit to something for the two of them. Chloe marvels how beautiful the picture of the house is, which contains five bedrooms and a pool on a lot. He takes her hand and reveals that he put a bid on it and wanted to make sure she didn’t have any objections before they went to contract. He praises what an amazing mother she’s been to Allie since Sami’s been gone. He admits he’s seen ambivalence on her part as far as their commitment goes. “I’d be a great husband for you,” he assures her. Chloe appears to be holding something back, which Lucas senses. “I saw my ex-husband today,” she reveals. Lucas asks how long Brady’s going to stay. Chloe isn’t sure, but he’s there to see his friends and family and has been clean for nearly a year. Lucas isn’t exactly jumping up and down at this news. Chloe admits that seeing Brady made her realize how lucky she is to have him. She smiles how she has a little family with him and Allie, which makes her feel safe and warm. “I guess you’ve domesticated me, Lucas Horton,” she smiles. She says yes to the house and they seal the deal with a kiss.
Back at the Hospital
Lucas and Chloe enter Kate’s room as she listens to David Bowie on her iPod. Lucas notes how great she looks. Kate says she got through the first treatment with the support of both of them. Daniel reemerges and shares the good news that the first round of chemo was successful and the tumor has shrunk significantly. Kate, Lucas, and Chloe are delighted. Kate thanks Daniel, who encourages them to enjoy their visit while he gets some work done. Daniel goes outside the room and appears disheartened for some reason. Chloe offers to give Lucas and Kate some time alone and suggests going to the kids’ bookstore and getting Allie another picture book. “Kate, can I get you something? Magazines? Trashy romance novel?” she asks. Kate smiles that she’s okay.
After Chloe leaves, Lucas sits down with his mom and notes how weird it is that Kate and Chloe actually seem to like each other. Kate admits that her feelings towards Chloe have slightly changed after Chloe was able to empathize with her. Lucas says Kate will have to do better than just “slightly.” Kate whines how she doesn’t want to be pressured into something that she doesn’t feel. Lucas agrees not to push or pressure her. He then displays a picture of his dream house, marveling how beautiful it is. A cautious Kate doesn’t want him to move too fast. Lucas affirms that he and Chloe aren’t moving too fast, claiming they’ve known each other forever. Kate asks what about Sami. Lucas states that Sami’s out and Chloe’s in, and he intends to ask Chloe to marry him. Kate claims she’s happy for him if Chloe is the woman that he wants and loves. Lucas hugs Kate, expressing how he wants her at his wedding and wants her to dance up a storm. She implores him to be cautious and not rush into anything where Chloe is concerned. “I know, but I love her. I love her like I’ve never loved anyone before,” he professes. Lucas believes his mom will find love again and find someone to make her happy.
Chloe encounters Daniel outside and asks if he’s okay. Daniel claims it’s just been a long day, but Chloe suspects it’s more than that. She wonders if there’s something he didn’t tell Kate. Daniel confirms that Kate’s test results were as good as he said they were, but admits he downplayed them a little bit. He shares that when one is in medicine, one is taught to maintain his or her objectivity and not to get emotionally involved with patients. Chloe surmises that Kate’s just not another patient and wonders what’s wrong with caring too much. Daniel says he lacks humility and always believed he should be able to save every patient and cure them. Chloe questions why be hard on himself for feeling passionate about what he does. Daniel brings up how his wife died and laments that he hasn’t learned to distance himself from his patients. He affirms that Kate still has cancer and it’s not over. He asks Chloe not to mention anything to Kate or Lucas, as he doesn’t want Kate to think anything other than he’s been “cooly objective” about her condition. Chloe understands and agrees that it will be between the two of them.
Police Station
Bo and Hope have concluded that Nick is the killer, not Melanie. Bo encourages Hope to go home while he takes care of it, since Nick is her cousin. However, Hope insists on sticking around. She beats herself up for warning Nick about Melanie and not figuring out that Nick was the killer. Bo encourages her to stop berating herself. Hope vows to be there for Nick now. They are interrupted by a phone call which may give them a lead on where Nick and Melanie are.
