Emotional Manipulation

By , About.com Guide

DiMera Mansion

John wants to know why Nicole gives a damn whether or not he gets along with Brady. “Well, it’s a simple answer John. Because I care about both of you,” she replies. Nicole shares how she had a chat with Brady, then asks John how many friends he has now. “Real or imaginary?” he jokes. Nicole snickers and points out that he has very few, which means he has time to possibly spend with Brady. John sarcastically suggests that he and Brady could go bowling. Nicole encourages John to get to know Brady and let him get to know who John is now, believing it could be mutually beneficial. John doubts that Brady will be satisfied with a father who is going through the motions. Nicole predicts that Marlena could love him again if John gave Brady a chance. “So what this is really all about is emotional manipulation?” surmises John, who agrees to think about it.

Marlena’s Townhouse

The tension is thick as Brady surmises that E.J. wants to talk about Nicole. Brady assumes that E.J. wants him to keep his distance from Nicole, noting how E.J. is a DiMera who tends to be a little territorial. E.J. clarifies that he’s protective, not territorial, and recalls how Nicole seemed agitated by Brady’s visit. Brady assures him that he and Nicole were just talking. E.J. would prefer it if Brady didn’t look to Nicole for solutions to his problems, stating how she needs stability. Brady remarks how it’s a good thing Sami’s in the Witness Protection Program right now, since two kids with two different mothers is an unstable situation. E.J. states that he gets along with John quite well and offers to do anything to help Brady with that. He welcomes Brady back to Salem, then leaves. “Stay away from my woman. Let me help you with your dad,” mocks Brady in a British accent.

Brady later answers the door to John, who asks if Marlena’s there. He informs John that she’s at the hospital. “Sorry to bother you,” says John, who begins to walk away. Brady asks his dad if they can try this again. John claims he doesn’t have a lot of time. Brady says it’s okay, as he needs to get to his addict’s support group meeting. An unfeeling John tells him good job for getting help. Brady shares how he talked to Nicole and agreed not to push with John. John coldly states that he doesn’t know Brady, and there’s nothing that can change that. Brady suggests that they could get to know each other now. John assumes that he’ll just see Brady around if he’s going to be living there. “Even though you and Marlena are divorced?” questions Brady, who assumes that John’s not going to give up on her. John notes how perceptive his son is and doesn’t know if he likes it. Brady brings up how the two of them used to get along really great, but realizes there are no guarantees this time. He admits that he’s thinking about moving there permanently, but John could care less and leaves.

Back at the DiMera Mansion

E.J. returns home and Nicole is surprised to hear that he spoke to Brady at Marlena’s. He interrupts her with a passionate kiss. They smooch a bit before E.J. carries her upstairs. Nicole falls onto the bed and E.J. kisses her, smiling how beautiful she is. Nicole is down to her lingerie and removes his shirt as they continue to get amorous together on the bed. They later bask in the afterglow as E.J. marvels what a wonderful afternoon it was. “Let’s see what we can do for the night,” she suggests before kissing him.

Maggie’s House

Maggie asks Bo if he thinks Melanie killed her father. Bo believes there are all sorts of possibilities, but they don’t have a case against her. Hope comes from downstairs and reveals that Nick and Melanie’s stuff is gone and they’ve left town together.

Max and Chelsea soon arrive after being summoned over by Maggie. Bo informs them that Nick and Melanie took off. Max assumes that Melanie’s running, which proves that she possibly killed Trent. He is surprised to hear that Nick’s things are gone in addition to Melanie’s. Hope questions if Max has any idea where she could’ve gone. Max admits that he saw Melanie this morning in the park and told her that Nick was in love with her, which really weirded her out. “So what is she doing going off with him? It doesn’t make any sense,” he wonders.

Bo gets off the phone and discovers that Nick got his prescription refilled a couple of hours ago. Maggie reemerges and berates herself for leaving Nick alone after she found his pills. An upset Maggie hands Bo and Hope the note and reveals that she found it on the floor behind the wastebasket in the bathroom. Max suggests that maybe Melanie was running away from the person who wrote the note. Chelsea shares her theory and wonders what if Melanie wrote the note to herself in order to draw suspicion away from her. Bo asks Maggie if she recognizes the stationary. Maggie admits that it’s hers. Hope asks Chelsea to take a look at the note. Chelsea confirms that it’s Nick’s handwriting.

Brady Pub

Stephanie wants Philip to take a look at her resume and then decide if he still wants to hire her. Philip notes what an impressive resume she has, but Stephanie disagrees. “You’re right. It’s terrible. You’re fired,” he jokes. She states that she wants to get a job based on her qualifications, not because she knows the boss. Philip says her resume doesn’t matter, and once she starts working, she’ll be evaluated based on her performance like everyone else. He asks her to pass the mustard, but she playfully suggests ketchup instead. She admits she’s nervous and asks him to be nice about it if he has to fire her. He touches her hand and assures her that she doesn’t have to be nervous. He swipes the mustard and she asks if he was just being nice or if it was a ploy to get the mustard. “You will never know, will you?” he teases.

Stephanie looks over her resume and quickly apologizes for going on when he’s thinking about his mom. He brings up how Steph walked up on him outside of Cheatin’ Heart last night and admits that he doesn’t like other people or even himself to know what he’s feeling. Stephanie then answers her phone to Maggie, who asks if she’s seen Nick or Melanie.
