Bo announces that he and Hope are finished, but tells Marlena not to disturb anything since forensics will show up shortly. John incites Bo with his derogatory remarks before Hope hugs Marlena goodbye. Bo offers to place an officer outside the door so it will make Marlena more comfortable. After Bo and Hope leave, Marlena tells John that he can’t be around the twins unless his behavior changes.
Out in the hall, a frustrated Bo is unable to find anything and believes they’ll be lucky to solve the case. Hope urges Bo to just step back and take a break, asking when was the last time he had a healthy meal. She intends to take him out for a healthy lunch, but Bo says he can’t. Hope refuses to take no for an answer.
Back inside Marlena’s townhouse, John is incredulous that this is the thanks he gets from Marlena after he goes out of his way to help Sami. Marlena assures John she appreciates what he’s trying to do, but his behavior frightens her. She warns him that if he doesn’t get some help, he’ll no longer be a part of her life or her family’s life.
University Hospital
Kate is dressed and anxious to get out of the hospital. “I can’t let you go. Not yet,” says Daniel. He clarifies that he can’t let her go if she jumps back into her old routine with eighty-hour work weeks and dinner every night. She claims she'll cut back after the holidays and knows she still has a long way to go. Daniel is finally able to get a word in and assures her that she’s made progress and the tumor has shrunk, but reminds her that they are dealing with a very aggressive form of cancer. Thus, the more she rests, the better off she’ll be. Kate agrees to rest after she gets back from her trip. Daniel cautions her against this, warning her that she could compromise her immune system. Kate refuses to hear any more medical talk, asserting that she has every intention of living her life to the fullest and Daniel will just have to back off. He interrupts her ranting with a kiss. She understands that he doesn’t want to lose her, but she doesn’t want to waste whatever time she may have left. They embrace.
Back to the Pub
Daniel brings Kate inside, where she is embraced by Lucas. Chelsea hugs her as well. Chloe admits how glad she is that Kate’s there and welcomes her back. Lucas, Chloe, Chelsea, Kate, and Daniel later enjoy dessert together. Lucas and Chloe suggest taking dessert home to Allie. Kate remarks what a shame it is that Allie couldn’t be there. Daniel relays how Lucas said she had a cold. Kate offers to stop by and see Allie on the way to work. “Work?” questions Lucas. “I’m only kidding,” smiles Kate. Chelsea receives a text from Philip, and his plane just took off from Chicago. They agree to have another round. Chelsea, Daniel, and Chloe excuse themselves so Lucas and Kate can chat. Kate feels a lecture coming from Lucas and insists that she needs to keep busy and stay distracted. She expresses how good it makes her feel to see her children happy.
Nearby, Daniel and Chelsea sit at the bar together as Daniel expresses how sorry he is about Nick. Chelsea notes the irony, in that she breaks Nick’s heart to be with him, then he turns around and does the same thing to her. Daniel thought they were past it. “Evidently not,” responds Chelsea before she walks off.
Chloe finds Daniel outside and asks if he’s okay after noticing him and Chelsea earlier. She tells him not to worry about it, referring to Chelsea as a drama queen. Daniel looks at Chloe like he’s ready to drool as Chloe remarks how they’re practically family. Chloe walks back inside to Lucas as Daniel watches from outside.
Meanwhile, Kate asks Chelsea if she’s been able to see Nick. Chelsea says her dad and Hope don’t think it’s a good time. Kate is glad Chelsea came to the celebration. Chelsea assures Kate what a great person she is and states how she respects her. Kate feels the same way about Chelsea. She doesn’t want Chelsea to continue with the anger and with blaming people. “Because life’s too short,” she adds as Daniel walks in.
On the Plane
E.J. and Stefano are en route to Argentina when E.J. states his confusion over some documents, wondering if everything is taying within the bounds of the law.
E.J. later talks about Sami and how he constantly tried to convince her that he had changed. E.J. smiles how Nicole just accepts him unconditionally. Stefano mentions the precise reason for taking the trip, so E.J. can appreciate the hidden assets his children will one day inherit. E.J. is happy to be a legal representative as long as he’s not required to do anything unsavory. He admits he was hesitant about accepting the new responsibility, but is happy to accept it for his children’s future.
Stefano later pours a drink and admits he’ll always be a little disappointed that E.J. and Sami didn’t work out. He believes there are still feelings there for Sami and only wants Elvis to be happy. He wonders if Nicole can make him happy. E.J. points out that Nicole is pregnant with his child and says a little support would be appreciated. He affirms that Samantha is his past and Nicole is his future. Stefano brings E.J. a drink and suggests that they call a truce. E.J. declines a drink, affirming that he’s not drinking while Nicole’s pregnant. Stefano realizes that he really does care for Nicole. He thanks E.J. for a new beginning, then puts his headphones back on.
