In Nicole’s hospital room, she displays a locket to Brady which she was going to put the baby’s first picture in. The monitors start beeping and Nicole begins to lose consciousness. Dr. Baker and the nurse rush to Nicole’s side intent on getting her stabilized. “E.J. Our baby,” moans Nicole. Brady re-enters and asks what’s going on. Dr. Baker informs him that Nicole’s blood pressure has gone through the roof and they’re upping the magnesium sulfate in order to lower it and stop the contractions. The doctor warns Brady that if they can’t stop the contractions, Nicole will lose the baby. He advises Brady to get in touch with the father. “Please, save my baby please,” begs Nicole.

The nurse later informs Nicole that her blood pressure is 180/110. Dr. Baker encourages her to relax, be calm, and breathe deep. He hopes there’s no damage to the placenta. Nicole bellows in pain when she experiences another contraction. She yells for the nurse to call E.J. The nurse comes out of the room and tells Brady that Nicole wants the father. Brady proceeds to find Nicole’s cell phone. Nicole screams in pain and sobs how she can’t make it stop. The doctor says they can’t stop the contractions. Nicole cries that it’s too soon.

Nicole later dreams about the nurse bringing her baby girl to her arms. She marvels how beautiful she is and professes to love her, crying with joy.

Dr. Baker encounters Brady outside the room and says Nicole’s fine and stabilized. “And the baby?” questions Brady. “The baby didn’t make it,” reveals the doctor. Back inside Nicole’s room, she awakens and thanks the nurse for saving her baby. The doctor informs Brady that Nicole doesn’t know, since she’s been drifting in and out of consciousness. He states that it’s his job to tell Nicole, but suggests it would easier if the news didn’t come from a stranger. Brady agrees to tell her. “It was a baby girl,” Dr. Baker reveals. Brady enters and prepares to give the heartbreaking news to Nicole. Nicole shares how she was dreaming about her baby girl. “The baby’s still okay, isn’t she?” Why isn’t the doctor in here?” she asks. Brady gravely tells her that the baby didn’t make it. Nicole breaks down and sobs in his arms.

A somber Nicole asks Brady if her baby was a boy or a girl. Brady reveals that it was a girl and expresses how sorry he is. Nicole cries how she would’ve done anything for her baby. She breaks down again over losing her baby and Brady does his best to console her. The nurse hands her medicine for the pain and assures her that there’s no permanent damage to her, and there shouldn’t be any problem with another pregnancy. After the nurse exits, Nicole cries how the nurse doesn’t know that this is a miracle baby. Brady hugs Nicole, who sobs on his shoulder.

On the Plane

A flight attendant approaches E.J. and asks him if he’d like anything else before they land soon. E.J. says no thank you, but advises her not to bother Stefano, as he’s in the back of the plane conferencing with the gentleman from Argentina who screwed everything up. The flight attendant notes that it doesn’t seem to bother E.J. that the trip was cancelled. E.J. is anxious to see his family.

Desperately Seeking Nicole

E.J. arrives back home with a bouquet of flowers calling for Nicole. Mary the housekeeper emerges and says Nicole never came home. E.J. tries to phone Nicole. He then calls the lodge to check on her. After he is put on hold, a woman from the lodge relays how Nicole left a couple of hours ago with a young man. E.J. thanks her and hangs up.

Back at the hospital, Nicole is later dressed and desponds what she’s going to do. She later hears her phone ring and notes that it’s E.J.

Brady Pub

Philip looks at the front page headline of the Salem Spectator entitled, “Fallon Charged in Dean’s Murder” when Pete brings him coffee and notes that Phil’s the hero of the story. “The hero that got everything wrong at the last possible moment,” mutters Philip.

Police Station

Chelsea arrives at the police station to see a forlorn Nick, who has a headache. She expresses how sorry she is. Nick, however, asks why she said she was sorry. “Because I know you, and I know that you’re not that kind of person that would act like that,” she replies. Nick disagrees, rehashing how he killed two people and how she nor Melanie didn’t want him. Chelsea counters that she did love him. Nick laments how he has tried to protect girls, thinking that they’d like him, but they don’t. Chelsea believes he cares a little too much. A teary-eyed Nick believes it will be best for him to go away so he can’t hurt anyone anymore, especially Melanie. Maggie arrives and begins to cry, touching his arm and asking if he’s alright. An officer tells her that she can’t touch the victim. Nick has a favor to ask in regards to Melanie. He laments how Melanie doesn’t have any friends, money, or family. “She has Max,” says Chelsea. Nick insists that Melanie can’t trust Max. Chelsea doesn’t want to upset Nick, but she knows Max cares for Melanie. Nick laments scaring Melanie really badly and asks Maggie to let Melanie stay with her.[/p[

After Maggie leaves, Chelsea tries to assure Nick that there were other factors involved, such as the pain pills. Nick implores Chelsea not to say it was Melanie’s fault. He reiterates that he’s in love with her and states that he will never love anyone else. He predicts that he’ll be sent to prison, but believes it’s not as bad as knowing what Melanie thinks about him.

Chelsea re-enters the office and relays to Nick that he can’t have an aspirin until he sees the doctor. He continues to feel contrite over what he did to Melanie, expressing that he just wanted to make her happy and didn’t mean to scare her. He rehashes how he freaked out when Melanie tried to get away from him at the hotel. Chelsea tries to assure Nick that he wasn’t himself in the room. He tells her to just go, but she doesn’t want to leave him. She agrees to see him tomorrow and asks the officer for permission to at least give him a hug. Nick says no, because if he stands up his pants fall down. “They took my belt, Chelsea,” he reveals.
