As Brady and Daniel walk off to chat, Kate asks Chelsea if she’s been able to talk to Nick. Chelsea confirms that she saw Nick, which really shook her up, but then Max made it all better in a really weird way. Meanwhile, Chloe asks Victor what’s new. “If there were anything new I would hardly share it with you, Chloe,” replies Victor. Chloe claims she’s trying to make conversation. Victor suggests that she just get out of his sight. Nearby, Brady remarks how good it is to see Daniel. After Daniel walks off to grab a soda, Brady phones Nicole, who says she can’t talk and hangs up when E.J. reenters her bedroom.
Nicole’s Bedroom
E.J. questions who Nicole was talking to, but Nicole asks if it matters. “It does matter, actually, if it was the uh, same person you met at the lodge earlier,” he confronts. Nicole claims she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. E.J. says he knows all about what she did. He informs her that he called her several times, then called the lodge directly, where an employee saw her leave with someone. “Who was this person you were with?” he questions. Nicole demurs that something happened at the lodge to their baby. He encourages her to talk to him.
Nicole untruthfully recounts how after he called, she got to the parking lot and when she was about to get into the car she felt an awful twinge which really scared her. So there was a guy who took her to the nearest emergency clinic. “Is everything okay? Is our baby alright?” he asks. “No,” she quietly says. Nicole reveals that she saw Dr. Baker, who treated her for a small hemorrhage. E.J. is disheartened and reaches out to her, but she tells him not to please touch her. Nicole keeps mum about her miscarriage and cautions that she needs to be as careful as possible for the next few hours. E.J. says he understands. Nicole apologizes for yelling at him. He wants to know that the baby is alright. “The baby’s fine,” lies Nicole. E.J. breathes a sigh of relief. Nicole smiles how she and baby will be up and about tomorrow, but really needs some time alone now. E.J. agrees to let her rest and assures her that she and the baby are very precious to him. He kisses her on the forehead before leaving her alone. Nicole puts her hands on her head and cries.
Nicole later sits on the bed alone feeling distressed. “Someday, somehow, I will make this come true. I will give E.J. and me a baby,” she quietly vows. Just downstairs, E.J. requests to speak to Dr. Baker about Nicole. “I’m the child’s father, so I would like to know everything, please,” he requests.
Back to Kate’s Party
Chloe assumes that it pains Victor to see her happy. Victor just wants her to be happy anywhere else except in his presence. “You followed me over here to tell me to stay away from you? Wow, guess dementia’s setting in,” she jeers. Victor calls her a little bitch and affirms that the only reason she’s in his house right now is because Lucas insisted. He warns her there will be hell to pay if she makes one false move. Daniel approaches them and asks for a quick word with Victor. Chloe walks off and Victor knows what Daniel’s going to say. “Girl’s a sadistic little slut,” grumbles Victor, as Kate and Chelsea overhear. Daniel interrupts Victor and suggests that maybe he would cut Chloe some slack if he knew how much she helped Kate. He then answers his phone to someone named McKenzie, who summons him down to the hospital.
University Hospital
Daniel arrives back and the nurse hands him a file. He looks at it and is disheartened by what he sees. The nurse asks Daniel if something’s wrong, but Daniel says no.
More Festivities
Lucas later thanks Victor for throwing the party. “Oh, and thank you for making me feel so welcome,” Chloe quips before she proceeds to get another drink. She asks Lucas if he wants another drink, but he reminds her that he doesn’t drink. Brady asks Kate if she’s enjoying the party. Kate says she is and asks Brady if he’s alright. Chelsea approaches a drinking Chloe and encourages her not to let Victor get to her. Kate apologizes to Brady for the way John didn’t recognize him and displays concern for him.
Philip arrives at the party and asks Chelsea how she’s doing, recalling her recent battle with Melanie. Kate hugs Philip and Lucas teases his brother on being fashionably late. Philip questions where Daniel is. Victor claims he got a call from a patient and would be right back. He tells his ex how radiant she looks. A gracious Kate thanks him and is glad she’s done with her first round of chemo, although she’s not cured. Philip reminds her that Daniel basically said no-one’s responded to treatment the way she has. Victor states how proud of Daniel and of Kate he is. Philip and Kate step aside, where Phil expresses how he wants her to be happy and promises not to get in the way of her and Daniel. Kate hugs him and thanks him.
Meanwhile, Lucas encourages Chloe to just try and chill out. Chloe rants how it’s easy for him to say, since nobody’s being rude and nasty to him at a party. She fumes how Victor had no right to treat her like dirt. “I love you. That’s the only thing that matters. That’s the only thing that counts,” he professes. “He always ruins everything,” responds Chloe. Lucas implores her to say it with him. “That’s the only thing that counts,” they state in unison.
Daniel arrives back at the party and approaches Kate. Philip hands him a small token of his appreciation for all he’s done. A contrite Daniel opens the box to a watch and can’t accept it. After he excuses himself, Philip feels like an idiot and just wanted to do something nice. Kate assures him that Daniel didn’t mean to hurt his feelings. Philip is only concerned with Kate being happy and healthy, then hugs her. He then announces to everyone that he’d like to make a toast and encourages everyone to raise a glass to his incredible mom. They make a toast to Kate as a guilty looking Daniel watches.
